I've been thru the game a few times, and here is my dilema. Aerie(whom I like a lot), has been bitching and Moaning a lot lately. Saying Like I don't know If I want to go on with you, and things like that, pissing me off. My solution, go and drop her for Vicona, who in my past expertience sucks.

And Lo and behold, it seems that every frickin' time I turn around I need to raise her from the dead. Should I go back and get Aerie? I also am trying to relearn the game without 2 Magic users. Currently I have:

Me Kensai/Mage
Minsc not an option to get rid of
ValyGar
Jaheira
Yoshimo
Viconia

Pleas advise......

Your party sounds strong and well-balanced to me.
But as for the Viconia/Aerie-thing, I suggest to pick up Aerie again, mainly because she is a much better NPC then Viccy, and Viccy is a b*tch.

An even easier soloution: use a female protagonist
No, I think that Viconia's pretty damn good for me, she's the best cleric in the game. Jaheira, though a slow to level up, gets kick-ass powers in ToB though.
I could never stand Aerie, she whines soo much in the end I sent her defenceless to Firkraag...Bye bye Aerie...Mahahahaha....
Now, Anomen...

Anomen........

The only joy I get from him is walking into the Bar and fragging his ass.....healing then repeating....

Take Aerie, you appear to be short of a mage (besides yourself) and Jaheira can handle the healing spells.

Viconia: Levels fast, has magic resistance.

Aerie: A mage that can use helms/shields/warhammers. LOTS of spells. That Robe of Vecna is very useful on a double-class spellcaster.

Jaheira: Levels very slowly, but eventually gets GWW. Has Call Lightning and some other nice druid spells.

Anomen: Can achieve grandmastery and be used as a tank.

They all have their strengths. I found Aerie to be quite useful in my current game.

Funny, I have Male Paly, Viconia And mazzy as my tanks, Jaheira, Yoshimo and Demora/Skald ranged, magic. Viconia for me rarly dies..she's always reanimating my bard and Jaheira..Anemone died a lot as well...hence me dumping him..

What I think happens is that you don't like Viconia so you tend to ignore here in a fight and possibly let her get wasted. Whereas I like her alot so I keep an eye out for her..I probably did the same for Anemone..

Sunden 06-03-2002 01:25 PM

Aerie would be my choice. Lots of offensive spells and she's all the magic you could possibly want, all 'under the one roof'

Sazerac 06-03-2002 01:38 PM

I tend to agree on Aerie...for pure firepower, she's a dynamo! Only thing is it takes her a while to get to the upper level spells, so if you're not playing a mage, take along Nalia or pick up Imoen quickly from Spellhold and level her up to take care of the high-level spells.

Personally, I found I didn't use too many high-level mage spells until TOB, although the sequencer spells come in handy...main thing you need near the end of SoA is the devastating Abjuration spells...Ruby Ray, Breach, Pierce Magic, and even Spell Thrust will work. So Aerie should be more than up to the challenge, even at her lower levels because of multiclass.

P.S. As far as the "whining" goes...Aerie goes on a bit about her wings if you're in the romance...but you can get her through that and help her move on (develop character further). If she's saying that she doesn't know if she wants to go on with you, you've probably been making responses she doesn't like.

HINT: she's Lawful Good. Respond how a lawful good person would want to hear, and she'll be fine.

take aerie; a pity that casting 'silence' on her doesnt shut her up... also a pity that J puts up with her little tanturms... ah well. you just cant rely on J to do anythhing right... ;)

I concur, keep Aeire. She complains a little, but, quite honestly, I would rather all the NPC had more to say and more often. She is a powerhouse, the only negative difference between her and Viconia is that she takes twice as long to level-up. Her complaints soon turn into compliments.

Maybe: your paladin, Aerie, Nalia (or, better yet, Yoshimo!) and then Imoen (at the LEAST have a level 7 thief!!), Minsc.
2 tanks, 2 mages, 1 cleric, maybe a 1/3 cleric (paladin and ranger), maybe 1 thief: with just 4 characters.

Now, who do you like (probably need another fighter or two, certainly a cleric, perhaps a mage - what's your style?)...
Jaheira might be good, Viconia, Anomen, Nalia, Mazzie, Keldorn....

Alternatively, you could make 1 or 2 ideal characters via multiplayer and include them in your party - less character development, but more "butt-kicking for goodness". I have a paladin, and a multiplayer mage/cleric and a fighter/thief (used to be a fighter/druid, but, please, let's not get into that!). Perhaps you'd care for a monk or a swashbuckler alongside your paladin? Many possibilities exist with a composite party. After all, as far as the storyline goes, they just happened to have been kidnapped with you at Baldur's Gate...

Thanks, Looks like I need to go to the circus.

I knew she whined about the wings, but she was going on about not wanting to be adventuring....anyhoo, back to the circus, to get me a freak......

Thanks for the help.

oldbittercraig 06-04-2002 01:15 PM

she is a freak. she looks like an alien!

As for which chars to take, I'd rather take a straight mage and/or a straight cleric over a multi...

Master Of Olympus 06-04-2002 02:19 PM

The best one out of those 2 is easily Aerie, but she is so bitchy. Will someone pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee make a mod that will make her shut the F*** up.

Wynne 06-04-2002 10:38 PM

Aerie is very good for ToB, IMO. Get five fighters, give 'em lots of GWW, and you're set. :D

Calaethis Dragonsbane 06-05-2002 09:21 AM

like i said, a pity 'silence' doesnt shut her up... u know the spell. lol then hide any voicalse scrolls,

eLLithid 06-05-2002 10:16 AM
