Assuming the other person knows what you think they know, or meant what you think they meant. ;)

K T Ong 07-04-2002 07:17 AM

What is the biggest problem with communication?

That we adopt an 'adverserial' style of communication and keep trying to tell the other party that 'I am right, you are wrong'.

Wrong.

When you only transmit, and refuse to receive.

</font>
I always use subtitles to read the threads in Dutch.

Melusine 07-04-2002 08:01 AM

That's a pity Yorick. If you only read the subtleties you'll miss out on a lot of the languages more intricate subtitles. ;)

Yorick 07-04-2002 08:06 AM

oh you Menmoch you... (and just what is a menmoch?)

caleb 07-04-2002 08:08 AM

Same thing as a Yorrick.

Nah, A Yorrick goes for the subtitles, a Menmoch is usually much more blatant in its assaults... though it sometimes manages a subtitle that even fools the grimmest user of subtitles!

Wrong.</font>
That's right, that's what I said.

Actually, I think Dundee's hit it too. Often we're too focused on getting our own argument out there, and not listening to the other person's.

Attalus 07-04-2002 08:33 AM

I think that you are saying that we tend to form a model of the other person in your mind, and try to communicate with that person, rather than watching for the subtleties (or subtitles) of the other person's reaction to you. We all tend to slip into that mode, I think.

What is the biggest problem with communication?

Lack of it!!!!!

Sorry, I'll get me coat.......

The biggest problems with communication lie in the fact that:

1.)It breaks down. Either sheer laziness to maintain communication in a relationship, or other electronic or mechanical means of communication can seriously malfunction or stop working altogether.

2.)Lack of education causes the inability to express ones self in a manner that an individual needs in order to get ones point of view across.

3.) Men arent psycic and DO NOT know what women are thinking
When we ask "Whats wrong??" And a female says "Nothing" Thats where we leave it. If theres no problem we cant fix it. "I'd rather not talk about it" gets pretty much the same results. "In that case I'm going have a beer with the guys. See ya."

Did that nail it??? :D

I guess it's human nature to want to play mind games, unfortunately... ;)

K T Ong 07-04-2002 10:59 AM

To Dundee:

Blame it on communication breakdown.
