No johnny haha it is hurting REALY here!

andrewas 06-22-2002 12:06 PM

If youve broken a rib it wont recover properly by itself and will probably hurt for the rest of your life.

Of course if youve broken it badly it might do something serious like puncture a lung. (That can kill you by the way)

And even if you havent broken a rib it sounds like somethings isnt right. Go see a doctor.

Lord Shield 06-22-2002 12:11 PM

see a doc NOW!!! Having had broken bone before, I can tell you the doc neds to set it in the right place BEFORE it heals

Megabot 06-22-2002 12:17 PM

Yeah, have it checked out Megabot, if you have a cracked rib it could be dangerous to ignore it. I once broke a thumb, when it happened i went to a hospital and that stupid doctor said it wasn't broken. After three weeks my thumb was still hurting and swollen so i went back and had some pics made. Then they saw it Was broken after all, but it kinda healed by itself. I was never able to bend my thumb like i used to before, pretty stupid isn't it ?

I once tore a tendon in my little finger during a martial arts exercise. i didn't think much of it and it was 6 weeks before I saw the doc. but it was too late to mend the tendon so now I can't fully straighten the tip of that finger. seeing a doc is better than no doc ;)

Megabot 06-22-2002 12:28 PM

Yeah johnny a frind of mine broke here finger one time and she did not go to a doc for almost two weeks and they had to broke it up again and she told me that she NEWER should do that again because of that DAMN pain when they had to broke it again! omg poor girl!

Glad you're taking the right decision to go and see a doctor, Megabot. If a rib is broken, it will heal incorrectly and the chances are that they will have to break the rib again at the hospital later on to ensure that it does heal properly, so you're far better off getting this over with now

And don't worry about your job, there are plenty of other opporunities out there if you keep a bit of a lookout. But first get the rest you need for this injury to heal. Besides, summer's here, and who wants to be working anyway? :D

Hope you feel better soon!

Megabot 06-22-2002 12:50 PM

THX Arledrian i give a shit about the work i have not been away from my work more than 3 days in 12 years so they maby reconsider the option to get me fired anyway maby it is some thing they say to scare me to come back! :D

Last time I thought I broke a rib, the doctor did nothing. He said as long as you can breath without pain, there was nothing he could do. He didn't even take x-rays. I had no problems since, so he may have been right. The doctor will probably poke around at you and say the same. It's hard to cast or set a broken rib so they usually let them heal on their own. Just don't do anymore heavy lifting for a while.

Well, what do they do if its severly broken?

Lord Shield 06-22-2002 03:45 PM

well ribs are more flexible than other bones so compound fractures on ribs are unnlikely. Personally I think it's just been dislodged. If it was broken, MB would be in utter agony

Sir Goulum 06-22-2002 06:25 PM

Isn't that true with most broken bones; utter agony? I mean main bones (leg, arm)

The danger if it is broken, and he falls, or is playing sport or something, and then it punctures his lung.

Those bones aren`t main, they`re more peripheral:P

Oh, ok! Thanks for clearing it up for me

They usually have you wear something that looks a little like a girdle (but not so tight) that is held together by velcro. It helps hold things in place. There's not much else, short of a body cast and that's for extreme cases.

Doctor, NOW, don't sit around tyiping or asking questions, go NOW unless you ejoy that pain you're feeling, it could become permanent... Belive, you, me. it's a real pain the butt to deal with a broken bone if you don't set it straight. I've broken lots of bones and i've gotten acustomed to just setting the suckers myuself. its a little bit of pain, but nothing too bad to handle. infact, it feels kind of good afterword...
