Maybe the public should stop supporting teacher pay raises till they stop this crap.

I know in Canada, we don't have a great deal of say over teacher pay increases. I couldn't agree with you more though, that is ridiculous. Why stop out outlawing tag though, why not outlaw bikes too...I mean some parents can't afford $500 bikes like other parents can and that must create self esteem issues too. How about jeans! Outlaw jeans in school, you know the designer ones. Every kid can wear a potato sack to school so their can be no self esteem issues with kids wearing better clothes than their peers!

SomeGuy 06-21-2002 06:58 PM

Next we will be hearing that ink pens will be banned from schools because a child could get some of the ink in his/her bloodstream hrough a cut, scratch, scab, etc;.This is stupid.

Deathcow 06-21-2002 06:59 PM

thats disgusting.

Neb 06-21-2002 07:00 PM

What's next? Banning homework because the stress of it can give children emotional injuries? Excrement of a male bovine

Lord Shield 06-21-2002 07:03 PM

feeble - utterly feeble. One of hte most pathetic things I have ever heard :D

maybe if hte teachers triedd, erm, TEACHIN Ginstead of talking rubbish maybe ;)

Willard 06-21-2002 07:10 PM

In my school, soda is banned but there is a soda machine in the teacher's lounge. Also, I remember that the in fourth grade they banned tag because of the same reasons. A librarian in my school has a rule that you have to wash your hands before picking up a library book, but she reads library books and eats Cheetos(r) at the same time! Also, in fourth grade during winter you could not bring your own sled to slide down the hill, you had to use the school sleds, which were pieces of crap. The gym teacher in fifth grade would make you run a mile aroung a field and you couldn't stop. For instance, one time somebody disturbed a hornet's nest, the hornets stung everybody, some people really bad, and we couldn't stop running! It sucked, one kid got around 20 stings. In fifth grade, they banned cd players for some odd reason. Maybe listening to your favorite music during recess was "distracting". Those were just a few of the odd problems we had in my elementary school back then.

We will also be hearing that girls can't wear dresses because the chance that boys could up them. These people are such idiots. hey you guys that banned tag!

Downunda 06-21-2002 08:19 PM

FFS, I can only hope that this type of attitude never reaches NZ schools.

Harry 06-21-2002 08:38 PM

What do you expect from California? They have set themselves up so they don't have power all year, banned dodgeball, ask 10 year olds questions about their sexual feelings (http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...survey-ON.html), and now they ban tag because it hurts fat kids feelings. If they were playing tag frequently they wouldn't be so fat. Now they'll just get fatter. I can't wait for these kids to get into the real world and shoot themselves because they couldn't handle all the negativity.

Moni 06-21-2002 08:54 PM

ouch Harry!

I used to be 'it' at home constantly because I was (for many years) the smallest, the weakest, and the slowest. It sucked, esp when I'd go to bed being 'it' for days on end LOL. I hated the game to a point but striving to be strong enough and fast enough to tag one of my siblings was motivation as opposed to being destructive to my self-esteem.
Whoever had the ultimate power to have the game banned was probably someone who is still 'it' LOL. I'd bet you anything they're from the 60's generation of "Peace & Love" and just ate too much acid as teens. ;)

dizzy 06-21-2002 08:57 PM

how retarted, those little wussies. Kids can't even
play tag now, what a lot of crap

The Hunter of Jahanna 06-21-2002 09:08 PM

It is stuff like that , that is breeding a generation of sissies and crybabies in America. If they cant take being "it" during elementary school , what are they going to do when they get fired from a job, go cry to their mommies?? If you cant take being hit by a dodge ball , what are you going to do when some drunk biker in a bar punches you a good one, go cry to your date?? GOD , I wish all of these peace and love hippie losers would take a walk through a bad neighborhood some time and see just how little an effect peace and love has on someone out to beat you senseless.

<font color=crimson>It's like Carlin said, all these baby-boomer losers are hitting middle age, and they wanna f*** it up for the rest of us. Can't play dodgeball cuz it inspires a warlike attitude when we as a nation have had over 10 major wars in under 250 years... Now we can't play tag because those who are incapable can't handle it, well, you little brats, you know what happens to your kind in nature? YOU DIE!!! So go home, cry to mommie, and blame your inability to handle life on tag, or the fact that you blew your classmates away on video games and sh!tty rock music. PANSIES!</font>

Lifetime 06-21-2002 09:38 PM

To quote Carlin..
"Nowadays kids have to wear a helmet for everything but j*cking off!"

I couldn't have said it better myself. If you don';t learn to play to win then we'll be breeding a generation of losers, just look, we're already losing to other countries like Germany, and what next? Perhaps this kind of idealism that will lead to us losing to the "great enemy" WHY WON'T SOMEONE JUST STOP AND THINK OF THE CHILDREN! THEY WILL BE US SOME DAY DAMNIT AND THAT'S NOT GOOD IF THEY'RE PANSIES!!!

I dare say your (and Carlin's )sweeping generalization is not true. Being a 'baby boomer' as are MANY people on this board, I'd disagree that it's specifically the generation that is at fault. Such generalizations are usually heavily flawed. That's why they are used in 'comedy' because it is usually apparent they are exaggerations.

It's the whole pervasive 'we must never have competition btwn children' atmosphere. Somewhere along the line it became fashionalble not to let children learn from mistakes and games like this. As someone else points out, you might lose a job or not get the house you bid on or any number of other disappointing things in life. Learning to deal with disappointment is part of growing up and sheltering children from it entirely isn't helping them in the long run.

Got a bit of unresolved hostility there, Oblivion, Hunter etc? ;) :D

Caleb, very interesting thread. Very much a contemporary issue.

One word of caution to everyone:

Try to keep your posts flame free and leave the name calling out, it doesn't enhance your views in any way.

I'll suggest exactly the contrary Caleb:

why don't they raise the teachers salary so they can eventually hire competent people?

Neb, it has allready been done in a school district or two here. I can't remember exactly where, my brain shut down in Awe of the complete stupidity of the reasoning if school board.

more pay will not help.it's these schools that are turning out these whining teachers that are to blame.they indoctrinate them into believing this bull about feelings and selfesteem.
