STARBUCKS YANKS AD
MOCKING 9/11

By JARED PAUL STERN and KATE SHEEHY

CLUELESS IN SEATTLE:
This Starbucks ad near the WTC site takes a cheap shot at the Twin Towers.

June 18, 2002 -- A Starbucks ad campaign has ground to a halt after concerns that its posters - including one displayed near Ground Zero - callously mimicked the Sept. 11 tragedy.
The tempest in a teapot revolved around 3,000 window displays touting summer tea brews by depicting two "twin" cups of the concoction standing side-by-side in tall, squared-off blades of grass with dragonflies dive-bombing into one of them.

The words "Collapse into Cool" are printed above the image.

Starbucks has now yanked the posters - and none too soon.

"As a New Yorker who watched the whole [Sept. 11] incident outside my window . . . seeing the poster in Starbucks directly across from Ground Zero adds some resonance that perhaps the people in Seattle did not grasp," fumed customer Gregory Moore, who first complained to The Post.

All I can say is , ITS JUST A FRAGGING PICTURE !!! GET OVER IT !!!

some people will do anything to get attention.

youve gotta be kidding me...whoever told them to take it down should be sued for slander, its obvious that starbucks is NOT mocking 9/11....

and then they should be thrown off a building

khazadman 06-18-2002 11:13 PM

i don't see where it's mocking 9-11.the people complaining about this are the same people who signed up for that stupid petition the make the producers of the two towers change the title of the movie.

Deathcow 06-19-2002 12:38 AM

this is sort of off topic, but did the title really get changed? if it did, im going to cry

Arnabas 06-19-2002 12:46 AM

To the best of my knowledge, the title has not and will not be changed. Personally I can't believe the guy who started the poll is that stupid. I suspect it is a kid who wants to be able to say "hey, look! I got them to change it!" and nothing more. He just wants to feel important. There are some great flames in the comments section of the poll. My favourite was supposedly from a woman, saying that she can't even let her twin sons stand side by side because it is too distressing.

0.o we have reached an all new low.., though once you point out the similarities it is kind of a bizarre coincidence...

lol, the "divebombing" dragonfly

and that butterfly looks pretty conspicuous too....maybe its a terrorist

Bruce The Aussie 06-19-2002 03:27 AM

I personally wouldn't even care if it was taking a dig at the twin towers. the problem is people are just taking this sensative aboout the two towers incident way too far. i mean "oh no my PC speakers are the same hieght standing at opposite ends of my moniter, i'll have to destroy one to not remind people of the two towers(or better yet buy 5.1 surround sound )"

dam right lets nuke it and kill everything within 1000km in case they are associated with that ever so dangerous butterfly...

I had never seen the ad before. Unfortunately I cant say I would or wouldnt have noticed the similarities. Im assuming they had run the ads before 9/11. If thats the case, no one can accuse them of being calous. Bad taste maybe to have a poster like that stationed across from ground zero AFTER 9/11.

Certain preachers accused Led Zepplin of backward masking.... Same with the Beatles.

Maybe the posters were Al Quida recruiting posters??? Just kidding folks. Dont get mad.

And while we're at it, i think the San Antonio Spurs must get rid of either Robinson or Duncan, so they can no longer be named "the twin towers". :D

Welcome to reality. In which people sue eachother just for the sake of getting as much money as quickly as possible, no matter the occasion, and where people get offended by harmless commercials or hypes (like the "Harry Potter is evil" thing. Of course, it is evil , but not because of the witchcraft and satanism mumbo jumbo, more because of the ridiculous commercial hype among it ;) ).
