I've never even heard of it :D
it's a RTS, one of the first with full scale battles. Remember age of empires and age of kings ? There you were dealing with populationlimits. Well, not with cossacks, up to 8000 units can be thrown into battles, that's pretty massive if you ask me. I like this game very much, i also have the add on.

cossacks sucks. Save your money. If you are looking for something bargain bin then buy the old Kohan or something else. Or if you're just looking for RTS then get Empire Earth or wait for WCIII

Cossacks sucks (for those of you who want justification) because it is so broken. The computer AI cheats more than in any other game because they hardly spent any time programming it. The campaigns are terrible (tho' I'm not a big fan of "hero" based scenarios where you start with a certain number of troops and must preserve them to win the game). Cannon and towers cannot shoot over walls and have a sucky minimum range that you can't research away. There's lots more wrong with this game, but I don't want to keep typing.

A lousy game, it claim to support 8000 armies but my game went lagging after building 300 armies.

and of course, the map is just not big enough.

Well, that problem is solved in the add on, the maps are up to ten times bigger than in the original game. And for your problem with the game, how much RAM do you have ? I never had that problem, and i DO make use of thousands of units at the same time.

If you start out with a number of soldiers and can't make any new ones, isn't the challenge much bigger that way ? It works the same way in Sudden Strike and i think that's a great game too. I also played Empire Earth and didn't like that game as much Cossacks. It's a good thing people have different tastes, don't you think ? :D

Calaethis Dragonsbane 06-18-2002 10:43 AM

it lets me get into the 'welcome scrn' then I start a game, the flag colours start alternating, I hit start, and the game crashes as the 'fog of war' withdraws,... weird huh?

Yeah, that IS weird, maybe there's a scratch on the cd ?

Calaethis Dragonsbane 06-18-2002 10:53 AM

nah no scrath... its almost in the same condition then when I bought it; it works on 98SE, and 98... so I was wondering if it was a ME prob,,,

johnny 06-18-2002 11:01 AM

Well, no, not to my knowledge. I run ME too and i have no problems. Can't you go change it in the store where you bought it ? Just in case....

Calaethis Dragonsbane 06-18-2002 11:04 AM

I dont think so... Ive had it for a couple of years at least; I bought it when It first came out... so I cant take it back now... maybe I should get a new copy or something....

johnny 06-18-2002 11:10 AM

don't you know anyone who has a copy of the game ? You could lend it for a day or so, install it to your harddisc, throw in a no cd patch and you're in business. Saves a lot of money that way. :D

Calaethis Dragonsbane 06-18-2002 11:13 AM

do you know where I could get a no cd patch??? It would be helpful,,, I miss my urkani gunmen...

johnny 06-18-2002 11:24 AM

it's called GameCopyWorld, so i'm guessing it's www.GameCopyWorld.com . If that's not it do a googlesearch on that. Here's another tip, if nobody you know has a copy of the game, go rent it in a library, they mostly have lots of software for hire, than ad the no cd patch and it's still a good deal. :D

Calaethis Dragonsbane 06-18-2002 11:30 AM

thanks man, I owe you one. (figure of speach)
