... all cats in the neighborhood?

feh the missing momma cat came back and brought her 3 wild kittens on my porch *sighs*
now I have use my taming abilities. *tired*
they have about 2-3 more weeks to go before I place them up for adoption... all 12 of them
the wild ones are.... warming up the human hands rather quickly.... too quickly... in fact, one of them is quite playful with me.
it turns out that someONE had been handling them before me and I know who it is too. It's a big gruff handyman across the street that maintains the owner's house (it's empty now). He goes over there to check things out, store stuff in the big old barn, bale hay, cut the grass, and other stuff. One time h e came over to our place to inform us that he placed up the 'Private Drive' sign up and we are welcome to go over there anytime. I know he's a big sucker for cats.

now few days later,
urg............. another kitten dropped off on my porch................... this time it's from a strange momma cat not one of mine. I really don't want the strange cat because she drives off the 'fixed' cats but I took in her kitten... *sighs*

what the hell is this? does my house has some type of invisible sign that only visible to cats that says 'Sucker' ?

I DO fix my cats but there are times I ran out of funds to take care of the rest. If I hadn't had the others fixed, the amount of kittens would have tripled.

Yes...yes you are, it's right there *points.*
See, it says "Hello, all ctas come here, I'm a real sucker for cats and just pop round and get all the caring and petting you want."

Heh- I wouldn't mind that, cats are great. ;)

Its the gyspy cat sign that says "Sucker lives here!"
We had one out on our gate for a while but once we managed to get the last one neutered, the sign either got removed or was replaced with one that says "Sucker lives here, but the price is your reproductive capabilities!"
Sorry to hear you got saddled with so many babies, I know what a handful just a few can be and I wish we lived close enough for me to help you out by taking a couple of them off your hands.
I can't even offer you any cash to help you get them fixed since KHaN is out of a job right now. :(
All I can do is wish you luck and believe me I know how much that sux.
I'm sorry!!

Am I the only person that thinx that you're doing the NOBLE thing? Obviously so. ;)

Redblueflare 06-07-2002 12:44 PM

So you like cats what's wrong with that? Cats are cool! I hope you have some luck finding homes for all of them. You really are doing the right thing you know. (Although your budget may be telling you otherwise.) :D

Absynthe 06-07-2002 12:50 PM

Why yes dear, you do have a big sign, I can see it from here... matches the one on my place. Down to a steady nine now, but last year I had topped out at 18 for a couple of months. Apparently you and Moni and I were separated at birth, as we all appear to carry the family cat curse... For what it's worth, you are doing the right thing, in my view, the only thing.

adam warlock 06-07-2002 05:32 PM

heh that's ok Moni, didn't really expect it ;)

BTW folks, one of the cats dragged home kitten #14 ...

The actual training part shouldn't be too hard if you have an adult around that is and that they'll mimick...its the scooping part that makes me want to just break down and cry for what you are putting yourself through.

Moni 06-08-2002 12:27 PM

Ouch! 14 kittens with no clue to litterbox use?
You have your work cut out for you!

Boo was the only one we had to train. 3 months old without a clue about anything, much less how to use a litterbox. What eventually worked was scooping it up off the floor and putting it into the litterbox and letting him check it out just before and as I scooped litter over it. It took about a month and thank goodness all the floors in here are tiled (no carpet whatsoever) or he would have been a permanent outside cat.

Even though we snagged Seven's kitten's at barely six weeks, she had already taught them well. In spite of having been born and raised under a house, they used the litterbox right off the bat and when they do their business outside (which they all do now) they dig very deep holes. In three years of having more than 5 cats around, I've never seen a pile in the yard until yesterday (and wouldn't you know, I stepped in it lol)

You are an angel! I wish there was more I could do to help!
