It's not on the news here, so it's probably nothing VERY serious, I hope.....

I saw that too. Another person in Florida.
Let us not be afraid. Fear - terror is the aim of terrorism. There may be an alternative possibility. ------------------ I am the walrus!.... er, no hang on.... http://www.animfactory.com/animation...ing_lg_clr.gif A fair dinkum laughing Hyena! |

At the moment, there is no evidence that terrorism had anything to do with this outbreak. For those that wish to know more here is some info on the disease. Lets not jump to conclusions over this, especially as the USA is not an anthrax free country.

Hold up jumping to conclusions folks. I know a bit about anthrax.
The bacteria can remain alive in the ground for centuries. It can also survive in the concrete of buildings. Kings Cross station in London has Anthrax bacteria deep within the walls for example. Farm workers are most likely to come into contact with it (it is a livestock disease), and anyone who digs up the ground - archaeologists, construction workers etc. also runs a risk. Or anyone who works in a building with the bacteria in the concrete - if a wall becomes damaged there is a slight chance that spores could be released. These are the main ways of contracting pulmonary anthrax (ie. Anthrax breathed in as opposed to ingested or absorbed through the skin.) Unfortunately pulmonary anthrax is also the most likely to be fatal - fortunately it is extremely rare. I hope the other workers in the building are being checked - they should be in isolation and be disinfected - they then have to take certain drugs at fairly high doses to kill any potential infection before the symptoms show. Yes this is a horrible disease, but very unlikely to come from a terrorist source. ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/e1.jpg Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Well contracting Anthrax naturally from animals is a VERY rare thing. To have two people get it working in the same building is suspicious. Not to mention the "timing." Of course, it really could be just a coincidence, albeit a very BIG one. Either way, the way I see it, is if there ARE still some terrorists residing in the U.S., their power has been hugely reduced now. No way they are going to hijack a plane again, and they know it. No access to labs or distribution from other labs overseas, etc. either. But who knows what some of them have on hand from before the attacks. Some may have Anthrax specimens, but I really don't think it would be much if so, and we really don't have to fear an epidemic from this instance. Hopefully we will find out 100% soon.

In Florida--WHERE I AM! It was found in the "The Sun" Gossip paper. DON'T TOUCH THE PAPER at the store. the germ COULD have been mixed with the paper, thats what I think they would do.. just don't take the risks... We're not near where it was found, so we're fine.. just hope the CDC finds and cleans this up QUICK.. I think many more cases will pop up though http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif. This CAN'T be a coincidence... It was 1976 the last time it was found in Florida.. Keep an eye on www.drudgereport.com for the latest -- he had this story a day before it broke on CNN.. ------------------ Ziroc™ Ironworks Webmaster www.tgeweb.com/ironworks |
Ok folks...I have been trained in chemical and Biological warfare.
1. Bio weapons are not very reliable. They have much less lethality than you might expect and are not nearly as virulent as many scare books and newsies report. Unless some one has managed to genetically alter a virus or bacterium Drastically they die quickly in exposed conditions. 2. The methods for dissemination are basically the same as for chemical weapons. Those being spray drom dispensers on aircraft or vehicle foggers. The other being explosive dissemination. An alternative might be pouring contagion into a water supply, but many municipalities chorlinate their water. I know mine does. 3. Bio weapons are costly to produce. The cost of producing a viable bio weapon is high compared to their lethality. The cost and time required to research and produce a genetically altered organism is considerable. 4. The environment in which a bio weapon is released is critical to it's effectiveness and the longevity of the organism. The radio has reported it here and I have read about it in the news paper. The two individuals both have the larger spores in their nasal cavities. These are not the more breathable small spores that readly transit into the lungs. The first fellow was an avid gardner and outdoor type. They are investigating this for safety sake. Please don't worry. ------------------ http://members.hometown.aol.com/wulf...ages/crest.gif The line between good and evil is razor sharp. <font color=orange>I understand from National Public Radio that spores where found on a keyboard, used by the man that died. Hope they find no more. There have only been 18 death associated with Anthrax in the last 18 years. The FBI is investigating. Might strange and fishy!!!</font>

Just to let everyone know, this is now being investigated by the FBI as an act of foul play. Just before the outbreak those tabloids had printed a very unflattering story in their tabloids. I would also like to add that blood tests have been administered and will be administered to over seven hundred employies and visitors to the building. The quicker test (nasel swabbing) has shown no further infection or exposure.

Turns out then, that this strain of Anthrax is one that was created in a US laboratory.
Don't forget that Bin Laden isn't the only person with a gripe against the US government. Remember Tim McVeigh anyone? Although I remember the Oklahoma City bomb was initially blamed on Bin Laden too... Make of that what you will. ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/e1.jpg Time is an illusion. Sorry - also to add that in the UK (with obviously a much smaller population than the US) there have been 18 cases of cutaneous Anthrax in humans, caught through contact with livestock, in the last 20 years.
Don't forget, this is also a naturally occurring disease in cattle with a long incubation period and infective spores that can remain dormant for a long time. Britain had been free of foot & mouth disease for longer than we had been free of Anthrax when foot & mouth started up again early this year. (Previous case of Foot & Mouth in livestock, 1967, compared with Anthrax, 1974). BTW, in case anyone is suspicious about how I know all this, I work for the English agriculture department (DEFRA) dealing with animal health, mostly cattle. So it's my job to know. ------------------ http://www.gldb.com/wayno/e1.jpg Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Two or three cases of a natural disease like anthrax are probably not a terrorist attack. I would suspect chemical contamination of a water supply to be a more likely target for chem/bio warfare. Not many are willing to use chem/bio because I believe it is a policy that the US reserves the right to respond to such agression with nuclear capability. Nuk/Bio/Chem is a dangerous playground. If the enemy should find a production site and hit it, the stuff is now set loose in your own country.

I still see no reason for the population at large to be afraid.
As I have said before it just isn't that contagious. But if you are afraid be more cautious of strange packages in the mail. It seems odd to me that both places hit are related to the news. Though one can hardly call The Sun a bastion of credible news. In either case this sounds more like the work of a home-grown nutball to me. For an article on this threat... http://www.time.com/time/nation/arti...178989,00.html Here is a link to the CDC FAQ page for Anthrax... http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/disea.../anthrax_g.htm ------------------ http://members.hometown.aol.com/wulf...ages/crest.gif The line between good and evil is razor sharp. In fact, it is not contagious at all.
