Are these guys whacked out or what? I've been reading about their various stupid acts for the last few years but these guys gotta stay out of the opium fields. They are currently blowing up every statue in Afghanistan, including two very large artifacts which feature Buddha. These have been around hundreds of years. They seem to detest women(personally I like them, who needs a date?),harbor known terrorists (Bin Ladin),and generally hate everyone who doesnt think the way they do. Just crazy, shelling statues. Sorry if I babbled but this is ridiculous

Well no need to worry LoA, if the Talibans uses the internet they are violating their own "laws" all that doesn´t excist in the holy book is forbidden. Yeah, like they had Kalashnikov´s and RPG7´s back then.. no female teachers and all that. They were one of the most well educated people back then when we sent troups to kill the "unfaithful savages" they head well documented medicine knowledge and let the westernes have their own churches..

Wolgir yes Christianity is a religion of forgiveness and love, but historically has been used by less than perfect indivuals who perhaps missed the point. (Read inquisition etc.) However it would be false to label Islam, a religion based on works, and say Buddhism, a religion of mentally disciplined neutrality, religions of love.

OK LofA - Inspector came through the albatross today. I guess the question of the day would be what exactly isn't going to complete sh** in the house? They said they put a new roof on it. Well, apparently they waited too long because water has been leaking down into the siding for many years. Inspector said anyone with even a hint of allergies would be in agony. Mold palace my friend! Windows completely rotted out and pretty much ready to fall out (one good blow should do it). There was actually GRASS growing in a couple of the top level windows! Oh yes, termites too. Yummy! Took a looksee in the refrigerator. Be having nightmares for a while now. I think whatever was growing through that crack under the bottom drawers look at me and winked! Strange reddish puddle leaking from underneath the fridge too. Moved a bit of boxes and stuff throughout the house stored against the walls, and lo and behold, stains stains stains! Water stains, cracks, bugs, etc. all hiding nicely. Oh yeah, and the furnace is 20 years old and hasn't been maintenanced EVER! No blue flames either. "New" air conditioner is plugged into a 20 amp box, wires just run through a hole in the wall that was never sealed. Every sink has a slow leak. Gutters outside are so bowed it looks like the house is smiling at you. Large tree near the house with roots completely under the house. I could go on and on here. This type of thing really gets to me because the owner basically is a liar. If I ever sold a house I owned, I would be completely and utterly honest about all the problems it had. Making money is good, but not at the expense of others. All I have to say is thank God for inspectors or we would have been taken but good!

If I recall the Communist Governments in both China and Russia both destroyed Buddhist and Orthodox(Christian) icons respectively when they came to power. Part of destroying the old and replacing it with new. I think the Taliban are representative of a Government in action rather than a religion. Interesting that religion and culture are so heavily interwoven.

LadyWendy! I'm glad you got away from that albatross! I had an idea that it might be a piece of shit when you mentioned the first problem, but I guess you had doubts too since you hired someone to have a look at it. I know thats expensive to hire a home inspecter but as you have found out it saves you at times. Its been a LONG time since I lived there but I do drive through at times on my way to moms/sister(Philly area)so I know things are pretty built-up around there. Dont let one asshole ruin your search for your home and if you need any advice you know you can e-mail me anytime. By the way saw your pic, can I be your next husband? Please?

Seriously, it always amazes me how people can justify any action with religion. Personally I believe in a supreme being, but I don't attempt to guess what that is. I suspect the various religions are manifestations of him/her, but I realize that trivialises the subject. Problem is, being a scientist conflicts with my catholic upbringing, not that I practice. Yorick, I know how it was in Russia. Hideous. In St. Petersburg (then known as Leningrad) they took a glorious cathedral and turned it into a museum of atheism, as a means of controlling the locals. When I was there the first time I had many Jewish friends. Several were what is known as 'refusniks', because they'd been refused exit visas for Israel and other points west (and socially/economically disenfranchised for daring to ask). They told me of persecution outside synagogues and of the destruction of priceless art, tapestries and religious items in those synagogues by gangs of hoodlums being paid under the table by the government. I saw what communism did for the Andrei Rublev icons in the chapels in Red Square. Still makes me want to cry. In that case it was neglect, pure and simple. Only much later on did they realize they could capitalize on the art for tourism and western currency and then they started restoring the icons, but it was far to late for some of them.

LofA - Well now we're starting from scratch and time is running out. We have to leave her by the end of April. No doubt saying this area is overpopulated would be an understatement. Boy do I wish I had the money to move out into the country, that is where I really belong. Yes, the inspector did cost a couple hundred, but he really was well worth it, and we learned a lot about what to look for. See, I was hesitant to move the owner's things around to take a look at the walls, etc. I hate to intrude on other's privacy. Not the inspector! He moved EVERYTHING! I'll keep you updated on the next place we find. We definitely need to find something that will sell in 5-7 years, because I'm not one for long commitments. Heck, it took 10 years living with my now husband before I finally said to heck with it and we married. Still wonder if I made the right decision. Don't want to fall in any traps with a piece of property! And yes, big flirt, I'll put you next on the list, but I must insist that you build a NEW house!! Hey, have you sent in your photo yet?

Thanks LofA! We'll keep looking. Probably have to do some searching tomorrow as it might snow here on Sunday and hubby will have to work (but then that leaves me an entire day of spamming!). It's been such a hectic workweek, I'm kinda hoping it will snow so I can take off Monday!
