Looks like we were very close to a major incident, Some of the arrests were in areas close to airports.

F---! I'm glad they were in time to prevent whatever the suspects were planning.
I wonder how much truth there is in these statements: "He said: "These raids are usually given a lot of importance when they are taking place, but when people are released without charge, it is not news. "It is creating a deception in the minds of ordinary people that we have a bigger problem than we really have," he added." On the one hand, I don't think creating paranoia and fear is a good idea (that's what terrorists want after all) but on the other the threat *is* real and news is news. |
I just read about it on a local newspage. They had quite an amount of explosive materials stashed overthere. Seems the British police came just in time.
|
Looks like we dodged a bullet this time. But as one police officer said "it's no longer about 'if' - it's all about when and where"
One of the suggested targets is Arsenal Football Club. I would like to thank the poodle for putting me and my family directly in the line of fire. |
:(
Glad you're OK Fred, and Terry too. |
Thanks for the replies, it seems that this story is not that important to the Nimby's, I fully agree with Donut, Tony B liar has put us in the firing line, and it seems judging by the response to this thread, not many people care, this is the biggest find of its kind in the world for many years, with the potential to kill thousands, maybe I should post again when they succeed, which they will.

Ooooh look! A tumbleweed!

I'm with you on the lack of reaction to this story guys. The story was not even headline news down here! I guess it's only a story when people are dead with gory pictures to go with it.
I visited Manchester in the mid 90's just after the biggest ever IRA bomb had gone off. The destruction was outstanding, rows and rows of office blocks with boarded up windows, the shopping centre where many near and dear to me shop was destroyed. It left me sick to see it. The scale of destruction this bomb (or several bombs) would have made beggers belief. My best wishes to one and all. BTW there was also on the same day a huge TNT bomb and its makers found in the Philopenes, again from the same scum muslim organisation that bombed Bali. That too got little or no news coverage |

Well, considering it was the same stuff they used in the Bali bombings, it's newsworthy enough for me. Seems like they were planning something big. Good news is that the Islamic religeous leaders throughout Britain have called upon all muslims to report anything suspicious.

It could just as well have been imported illegally on the cheap, bypassing import-duties and red-tape to be sold 'on the side' to farmers. To date, no-one has been charged with committing any offence. |

If they even had back yards. ;)

The only people that put anybody in the line of fire are the lowlife sacks of horse manure pukes that were trying to build the bombs.
PM Blair provided the sacks of horse manure the excuse to justify their actions in their own feeble minds, and they have provided some with the excuse to blame PM Blair. You people can do what you want, but rmemeber this there will allways be people that dislike you/your country/your culture/ your what ever, you make the call to bend over or not. |

You have a simplified view of the world - you fail to see the connection between cause and effect. I could walk past you in the street - or I could call you a tosser as I pass you. If you then punch me on the nose it's not your fault, it's mine for being a twat for no apparent reason. Britain was not threatened by Iraqi sponsored terrorism when the went to war in the gulf. We are now at risk because Blair took us to war on the basis of intelligence reports that were wrong. Why would any leader put his country into the direct line of fire for no apparent reason and for no apparent gain? [ 04-02-2004, 05:51 AM: Message edited by: Donut ] |
At 11.20am on Saturday June 15th 1996 a 3,300lb (1500Kg) IRA bomb exploded in Manchester city centre. At least 80,000 lives were placed at risk by the bomb but prompt police action ensured there were no fatalities. The most serious injuries were caused by falling glass over 300 metres from the site of the explosion. The retail heart of the northwest was more or less ripped out together with a vast area of office space. Damage estimates amounted to £700m. About 200,000 sq ft of retailing and 300,000 sq ft of office space was destroyed. The bomb remains to this day the biggest ever detonated on the British mainland.
MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines says it has foiled a "Madrid-level" terror attack on shops and trains in the capital Manila by arresting four suspected Islamic militants and seizing a large amount of explosives. The suspected plot by members of the Abu Sayyaf group comes as campaigning heats up ahead of May 10 national elections in which President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, a firm ally in the U.S.-led war on terror, is seeking a new term. "We have pre-empted a Madrid-level attack on the metropolis by capturing an explosive cache of 80 pounds (36 kg) of TNT which was intended to be used for bombing malls and trains in Metro Manila," Arroyo said on national television on Tuesday. "Follow-up operations are ongoing. They will be relentless." Officials said the four suspected militants, including several involved in high-profile kidnappings of foreigners by the Abu Sayyaf, had been arrested in raids in Manila last weekend and on Monday, including in the Makati business area. Both stories care of 20 secs on google. The common theme that Lanesra suggests is of course no death of innocents. Skunk In one sense I admire the right to presume innocent till proven guilty stance that you take. But we are not in the act of judging them we are just passing comment in this forum, and if these guys are innocent then Lanesra and Donut are Spurs fans :D (actually both subjects are to serious to joke about, sorry) I do wonder if the lack of real news on this subject is a case of waiting till they are charges laid and the press co-operating with the police to keep details quite so not to hamper further investigation. Can any weapon expert or anyone else compare the Manchester bomb (3,300lb) with the Oklahoma bomb and the quantity of material found in the raid in London so we can get an idea of the potential of this thing? |

There's a kind of paranoia spreading through government circles (not entirely without merit) and there have been a number of cases in the UK since 9/11 where people were held under the terrorism act, questioned for weeks and let go because there was no evidence to substantiate the claim. And then there was that case where an airline pilot was falsely accused and cleared in court too... They sound like they are a dodgy bunch - that's true - but I prefer to wait to see what they are charged with before I pass comment on their actions. |

I don't know if you are a twat or not, but if it was my hand that was made into a fist and punched you in the nose, then it was MY ACTIONS, My fault. I know very well the connection between cause and effect, but we are not talking about phsyics here, gravity or any others thing that is beyond human control. We are talking about HUMAN BEINGS taking an action. THAT means they must decide to do something, then willingly do it. Now if you wish to go through life thinking that be my guest, and hey while you are at it why don't you blame the store owner for getting robbed because they have money in the cash register. After all that is the cause to the effect of being robbed. The robber sure as S*** isn't robbing the store because they want the color of walls for their home. |
