This bugs me every one talks about soloing but i dont know how to do it PLEASE help

Tanoch Thas'ala 05-15-2002 01:25 PM

Soloing means you play your character only. YOu don't pick up NPCs like Viconia or Keldorn, you don't have any other character except the one you create...

Sir Exxon 05-15-2002 01:55 PM

You should really try it. It is much more challenging, and IMO, more funny.
I suggest you try a Monk or a Cavalier on your first time, those are the funniest and best to solo with, IMO. ;)

Well, most soloers agree it's OK to have another person in your party, IF it's only for a short time and they don't do anything. For instance, you can get the EXP from freeing Minsc & Jaheira, then boot them (and Imoen). Later on, you'll meet them in Athkatla, and feel better knowing they didn't meet gruesome deaths in a dungeon run by a mad Mage.

Or another guy said he would bring each NPC along for that NPC's specific quest, but only after he'd taken away any weapons they were holding. That way, the PC still got 100% of the kills.

sorcerers are also fun to solo, but don't try it until you are VERY familiar with all of the spells. one bad pick will ruin your whole game. don't follow any Solo Sorcerer guides for spell picks, since you are the one who is going to use it. For instance, i picked Project Image, but only used it once. I found out that kills scored by the image don't get you XP! that was a bad choice, and it was too late to stop it.

As for "doubling," i find it ok to take Yoshi along for the Mae'var quests, and to make tons of money off Gorch. I take Valygar along for the Planar Sphere, Mazzy along for the Shade Lord, Cernd for Trademeet, and Imoen throughout Irenicus' dungeon. I use their skills, since it would be an insult to them not to. Still, my solo Dwarven Barbarian made 90% of the kills even when i had both Valygar and Mazzy in my party in the Temple of Amaunator. As long as you don't keep them around forever and don't exploit them, it's fine.

You don't have to make a second post. Just hit the "edit/delete" button at the top of your message and edit it. to delete it, like if you accidentally double-posted, just click the "delete this message" box.

Hmmmmm, anyone here soloed an Assassin?

I'm really wanting to go through the game as a chaotic/evil alignment, and basically... well... just be a complete b*stard to every NPC I run across. Not my normal personality, but I've played through as a Paladin, now I'd like to see the flip side/dialog for evil choices.

I'd definatly like to try it as a thief class, and very much like the idea of Assassin. The only catch, is it would be my first time soloing the game - and I was unsure as to the difficulty of trying to do it with an Assassin, coupled with the fact it would be my first attempt with -any- class.

Thoughts or suggestions?

kanri 05-16-2002 04:25 PM

But im still on my first run through in a normal game im still on disc 2 (d arness hold)

Xero279 05-16-2002 08:22 PM

i think (IMO) the EASIEST class to solo would be a fighter/mage/thief that way you have all the skills you need. you can still tank and do melee dmg with spells added on to it, plus pickpocketing and backstab and traps

In response to Cecil's question, I am currently soloing an Assassin. It isn't easy, but not impossible either. I am currently on (in?) Brynnlaw about ready to go into Spellhold. If you are going to solo an assassin, I would get the cloak of Non-
Detection, the ring of invisibility, boots of speed (fixed version, or may screw up your backstab), Celestial Fury, and the ring of Gaxx ((POSSIBLE SPOILERS) . . . .easily gotten if you don't mind resorting to REALLY cheasy tacticts. i.e.: pickpocket ring of ram from Tolgarias in Government building, then use traps to kill all lich's to get body parts, go to Kangaxx's tomb and set about six traps where he first appears and about six more in the topmost corner. Trigger the tomb and Kangaxx's first form will die in the traps by the tomb, then use the ring of ram to push the second form into the traps set at the top of the room.)

The one nice thing about assassins is the poison ability. Used with the bow that gives you 3 attacks per round (forgot what its called) and most mages will fall easily.
Have fun.

I mostly solo my mage, and its fun and challenging. If you wanna seem like some travelling archmage (fantasize if you will)doing random acts of kindness(or evil I suppose), may seem cool. It's actually kinda hard especially in Athkatla because you constantly have Cowled Enforcers warping in and you have to cast spells to kill vampires on the streets! As I said, hard but fun. Still like the sensation of rocking groups of thugs with a fireball or two "Yo! You! Hand over all your cash NOW!" "Are you talking to me?" "This'll teach you to play smarty--" *spells galore* etc...
