Depends how old you are but I would recommend Requiem for a Dream, The Usual Suspects, Half Baked or how about asking the video store guy - they know whats hot and whats not ;)

Horatio 05-05-2002 05:39 AM

I am at uni so....

AGE MEANS NOTHING TO ME!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

uss 05-05-2002 05:50 AM

great taste, Downunda(except that i dont know Half Baked) ;) !
i would also recommend Requiem: For A Dream(if youre into scary hallusination movies, that is ;) ), Fight Club, Pulp Fiction and Memento.
though im 13, i like depressive and freaky movies ;)

Downunda 05-05-2002 05:56 AM

Speaking of good taste, if I'd thought 'bout it I would've listed all the vids that you suggested aswell.

Half Baked is a comedy about a bunch of stoners - very funny :D

my all-time favourite is The Fog.

In his original post he told us that he needed the names of some good flicks for a vid nite with his mates.

Never heard of The Fog, is it a thriller? I really like good thrillers

Lord Shield 05-05-2002 06:26 AM

Lady Blue03 05-05-2002 06:30 AM

Downunda: It was a series shown in the UK in the late '70s?? (I think that's when it was on) based on the Roman writer Suetonius' Life of Claudius (published in translation by Penguin as "The Twelve Caesars") A truly great historical drama.

Lord Shield 05-05-2002 06:53 AM

you can't beat roman emperors for utter insanity :D

lroyo 05-05-2002 07:39 AM

I love John Carpenter's early films (The Thing, Halloween...) but I never saw The Fog. I'll have to check it out.

My favourite films in no particular order :

Aliens
Bladerunner
Terminator 2
The Exorcist
Braveheart
Lord of the Rings
The Matrix
Seven

It was repeated then LS, but was earlier than that - I originally saw it when I was a kid. Might have been early '80s

Seven is absolutely awesome. Very dark, very atmospheric. Great acting. You should hire it right now! (If you don't mind getting a little depressed). It's not one I'd recommend watching on a first date.

I love Fight Club too. I should add that to my favourites list.

Lanthir 05-05-2002 08:22 AM

Ty Epona. I tend to feel my tastes are not run of the mill

Well i did not see it in the 70's I kinda was not born then. I saw it on PBS in the 90's here and then I bought the video. I love the accurate it is in dipicting the life and politics then. Granted alot of it is speculation but he did a great job in research.
Also I am into Brit TV and films. I much prefer them over most American stuff. I also enjoy a lot of french films also.
