After reading SomeGuy's post about a ghostly apparition in his new house, I have to ask:
How many of you believe in supernatural things?

SomeGuy 04-27-2002 10:05 AM

Dramnek_Ulk 04-27-2002 10:25 AM

I suggest anyone who believes in the supernatural read:

"Why People Believe Weird Things : Pseudoscience, Superstition, and Other Confusions of Our Time" By Michael Shermer.

also try: www.Skeptic.com and read the archive section on "RANDI AT CALTECH: A REPORT FROM THE PARANORMAL TRENCHES".

It's all bollocks

Charean 04-27-2002 12:07 PM

This is one of those things folks feel pretty strongly about one way or the other. Sort of like politics... few are lukewarm to it.

It is out there, sightings of the things prove it enough, we just don't know what to make of it yet... Supernatural, IMO, is just another way of saying "unexplainable occurance"

As a scientist, I had originally voted the second one (everything that isn't explainable by science is Bull****, but I got to thinking, especially when you put it like that...Isn't Tiamat our very own example of an "unexplainable occurance?" I certainly don't know what to make of him. Maybe HE is proof of the existence of the supernatural...

BTW, AYB...

Personally I blame junk food and additives for such occurrences

Alexander 04-27-2002 04:53 PM

It's all a bunch of hooey, and those who have "seen ghosts" need to get their heads checked.

Tiamat 04-27-2002 04:59 PM

I voted for the third one, as I believe that yes there are things greater than what we can see and prove, but it may not be ghosts as such.

that's a very good question, but you'll probably never get a satisfying answer

I am of the belief that, if I haven't seen it, and it defies science, it probably didn't happen. I'm certainly not going to go on what some other person I've never met says happened.

Nothing in my 24 years has been even slightly supernatural (which is kinda disappointing), which leeds me to religion..............

No, I'm not going to go there!!!!

Barb 04-28-2002 06:18 AM

I dont know. i read the exorcist and thats based on truth and that was really freaky, I also satarted reading Faust and thats freaky as well. Some peple beleive that if you read something about posession or something then your brain will make you beleive your possesed, it's like a mental illness and if that person also beleives in exorcism, then you can catrry out the ceremony and they will beive there better.

the christian church needs to here very strong cases for exorcism though and a ceremony like this being carried out is now very very rare.

Thats just my 2 cents!

Madman-Rogovich 04-28-2002 06:24 AM

i beleive its very much psychological...really now i cant prove anythin but have you ever been walking trough a dark wood late at night on your own and you mind begins to play tricks on you??? is that a side affect of fear or something else??

I know exactly wot you mean. You begin to think 'good god. That shadow REALLY looks like a chainsaw-toting maniac, ready to leap out and carve me into tiny chunks'.
Basically, I believe that the whole world revolves around ME. You are all just illusions, are not actually REAL, and therefore you have no effect on what I can and can't do. And so, anything else that I can't see the effects of is and illusion. The supernatural is all in the mind.
