Who here loves Barnes and Nobles
I have to say it is my favorite store in the world!

Epona 04-19-2002 05:34 PM

Don't have it here - at least not that I know of.

Spelca 04-19-2002 05:35 PM

Never heard of it, sorry

Ryanamur 04-19-2002 05:36 PM

In Canada, I choose Chapters... last I checked, up here Barns and Nobles only sold cookware

dizzy 04-19-2002 05:37 PM

Its a huge chain of bookstores here in America. It is also a cool place to hang out at. They have all sorts of books starbucks coffee
just a wonderfull place to be.

Epona 04-19-2002 05:39 PM

My equivalent would be Waterstones - there's a big store on Gower Street and another on Picadilly which is 7 storeys of bookworm's heaven with a bar, restaurant and coffee shop!

dizzy 04-19-2002 05:54 PM

Barnes & Noble is a great bookstore. Another one we have here is Borders. Both are very large and also sell CDs too (albeit at a more expensive price). :D

dizzy 04-19-2002 06:14 PM

Im not for sure Ive been to a borders before or even heard of it

/)eathKiller 04-19-2002 06:16 PM

Yeah I know of Barnes and Noble... I bet RedblueFlare doesnt seeing as he hasn't ever seen a Starbucks... As much as I like the store I don't feel at home there. I think that Books-A-Million is bigger, better, has larger selections AND they carry graphic novels! Which are almost impossible to find in a Barnes and Noble...

PS: dont you just HATE people who say stuff like "Barnes and Nobles... BlockBusters... TCBYs.... Whats the the S at the end of the store name? It makes NO SINCE! JCPENNYS! O_O its JC PENNY! My mom and dad and all my relatives and every human being I know always ends the name of a CHAIN of STORES with an S!!! THAT REALLY REALLY BUG ME!!!

o all i have to ay i that we ould remove the letter from our alphabet! Then tore name wouldn't be mi pronounced... alo, people with denture would be able to talk a little eier...

olong...

Moni 04-19-2002 06:17 PM

I love our local Barnes & Nobles!
(EDIT LOL...That's plural /)eathKiller! There is more than one here! LOL)
KHaN and I spend a lot of time there some weekends when we go into the city.
Do you have any used book/music/software stores where you are?
We went to one here with KHaN's dad (I forget the name of it) when my son was visiting...very reminiscent of the days we had all spent in a huge place in Tucson called Bookman's. (KHaN and his family lived in Tucson the during the time I did and at one point we even lived on the same street but we did not meet until over ten years later here in Texas. )

If you want lots o' books in America, the place to go is Powell's City Of Books in Portland, Oregon. Sadly I've never been, but I will someday. You might say I live to read!!!! ;)

Not so different than scrumpy then I had some fresh goats milk once - I was offered a glass of milk, thought 'what the heck, why not?' and was alarmed when the farmer went and got it from the barn - as I drank it I tried very hard to ignore the bits floating in it....

Black Knight 04-19-2002 07:52 PM

Personally, I go to a little B Dalton's Book Store (affiliate of B&N in the Midwest, I believe...) but it's right accross from the Starbucks, so do that count?

BK

dizzy 04-19-2002 07:59 PM

sure does
as a matter of fact the Barnes and Noble gift card can be used at B daltons as well!

BK

I used to go to B. Dalton's all the time! But it was a smaller store, and went out of business right before all the "big" bookstores showed up (Borders and Barnes & Noble). :( Seems like pet stores and bookstores, all the small stores, have been replaced by huge ones driving the small ones out of business, except for in malls. Five years ago there used to be small pet stores in every shopping center, not anymore, all have gone out of business and you are stuck with PetCo, etc., which is large on merchandise, but lacking hugely in intelligent, helpful, knowledgeable employees. Of course this is different than bookstores, the larger the better in "my book." I'm flailing off topic aren't I?

dizzy 04-19-2002 08:18 PM

Such are the things that happen in this day and age. But I still like Barnes and Noble.

And in the comparison between Barnes and Noble and Waterstones - both great but I give the edge to the latter - I went to the one in Edinburgh. Although it has only 5 stories, I spent hours in there on a cold rainy day. I didn't get as much time in the B&N (just off the park in NY), friendly atmosphere - good place - just not the same depth of variety and people seemed a little more urgent and hurried in what they were doing.

dizzy 04-19-2002 09:14 PM

the Barnes and Noble in Evansville is only 2 stories high
(and I thought that was big lol) Ill be going there tommorow
after i spend all day at the armory drilling
