How do I know if I have normal blood circulation or not? It's been a year since I have had a physical and I seem to be in good shape. But it's just that my feet and sometimes hands & arms fall asleep pretty easily in my opinion and my toes are red most of the time. I am 17 so I didn't think I should be having bad circulation yet
I would ask a doctor but it's rather expensive and the 2 doctors here are idiots.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or maybe this is normal...

Do you have diabetes? go to a doctor and check it out.

I also have this problem now. Do your feet and palms sweat alot? If so, you may want to see a Neuro. just to be sure. I was put on Neurotin for my nerves.. It could also be a heart condition--does your chest ever feel painful? could just be a pinched nerve.

Let me know!

I would certainly go and see a neuro, as Ziroc suggests. Idiots or not, they know more than most about this kind of thing.

My husband the vascular surgeon says that, at 17, if you don't smoke and your toes are pink, the problem is probably not with your circulatory system, but with either the nervous system (as Z suggests) or with diabetes, which is actually the nervous system, too, for the paresthesias or numbness of the feet that are associated with diabetes are caused by the effect of the raised blood sugar on the nerves of the feet and lower legs. Get checked for diabetes, and, if that is negative, get a full physical with the possibility of a neurological consultation, later. Do it now.

Exactly what I was afraid of. There is a history of diabetes in my family. Also, I wasn't suggesting all doctors were dumb, just the 2 local family doctors in my town.
About a year ago, I was having dizziness problems too. Sometimes if I got up too fast, I would get really dizzy, lose my balance, and fall down. Went to the doc (in another town) to get this checked out as it scared my mom quite a bit when I fell and hit my head once, but everything checked out okay. Eventually that went away though too after I started being really careful about not getting up too quick. My mom just noticed my toes the other day, so we may be going to get it checked out in the summer. Would do it sooner, but the nearest doctors to do some of the testing like you're speaking of are 75-100 miles away.

Z>No, my feet and hands don't sweat a lot. But it could be very likely that it is heart, diabetes, or neurological related as my gene pool involves many problems with many things.

Arledrian mentioned smoking, which I don't, but it got me wondering that the fact that I used to have asthma has something to do with this? I was taking this medicine (don't remember the name) for the longest time and then they decided to pull it off of the market because they found out it caused strokes in adolescent/younger women!!! That scared me quite a bit.

Anyways, thanks everyone for their thoughts and advice, and I will go and have this checked out ASAP.

Galadria 04-14-2002 01:30 PM

Do that, Fast Hands. Be sure that they run a fasting blood glucose on you.

Good idea FH . You always hear about people who didn't go get stuff checked out because they were afraid of what it might be, and then it being too late to do anything when they finally go. Much better to be safe than sorry, and I hope everything's okay for you *hugs*

Oh I get it caleb says its diabetes and no one listens. Wife of a doctor says its diabetes and gets all the glory....no respect.
