Like Saz's thread on gaming politics, I will discuss the music industry. Ok, We all are atleast familiar with the following spectrum: IMHO.

'Good' Music
Britney, Christina, Backstreet, and NSYNC+ Destiny's Child... etc.

'Neutral' Music
Sum 41, Default

'Bad' Music
Insane Clown Posse, SlipKnot, Marilyn Manson etc.

Ok, What makes the bad music so bad? (besides the swears and questionable content; thats sez it all but anyways) I was discussing this with sum kids, and they hate ICP. IMO, the people that like the neutral or bad music are actually original for once. I listen to pop music; and I dont see why its so good! The bad is actually good in sum cases as it tells it like it is and is a reminder that the world isnt happy go lucky. Wat are your thoughts?

But what I find annoying is the people who only listen to a type of music while it's popular, then as soon as it fades out of popularity, they forget it and move on to what's new.
I don't begrudge anyone of the music they like, but I wish thy wouldn't pretend to like something just to be in, instead of listening to what they really like and being themselves.

I like Insane Clown Posse because I, MYSELF like it. Plus, the pop music scene is quite gay IMO. The bad stuffs got almost better beat and most of the rap that is listened to is utter crap. I apologize for swearing, but its like what ever happened to originality? Atleast the bad stuff is fresh not like Nelly or Britney regurgitated for more milking. Pokemon was a victim to this (altho off topic it proves a point) and could have been as good as Final Fantasy but the creators were too drunk with the millions it sold and made a dumb show and C average movies- ruining a perfectly good rpg! PARANOIA WARNING! Did you ever stop to think that maybe the government or simular organization is putting hidden messages; Im serious! I sum times hear never before heard chords or notes that with all my perpetual listening to the same song were never heard before!
I am almost glad im unpopular; I would have to become another person (if u browse the rp board u'd see im good) just to fit in; it gets old.

IMHO Brtiney Spears can go choke on a....well i wont say it. I really dislike pop music, with the exception of some of the music they play at dances, not to mention Britney Spears is ah *coughFAKEcough* ahem. I am definatley into the old school punk, as well as the heavy stuff like Metallica and Disturbd. Some bands are good just cause they put on a good show at their concerts (Blink182 :D ). But people will mostly listen to what is popular in their genre of music style, i.e., People who like the pop hip-hop stuff will listen to the new N'Sync songs (though i haf 2 admit those guys r pretty hot, but so is Billy Joe :D ), while i'll stick with the Offspring, thank you very much.

All IMO:

All the pop music sucks. Why? Because its fake. All of it, its so fake. Very few of them write there own songs, very few of them make up there own caraogrophy, very few of them have...ehm..real body parts I guess would be a fitting term.They dont play any intruments, its crap. Its all so manufactured. And of course no one well like Brintet Spears in 3 or 4 years.

Other bands I dont like include: All the 'punk' crap, Sum 41, Blink182 ect. Why? Because its not punk! Its ridducluse to call it that. Come on, thats not punk. I dont like punk music that much, not the harcore stuff anyway. The Ramones (The orginal punk band) are cool, and the Sex Pistols had it right. They wear reblious, yet they didnt take it too far to be anoyying with it.

"I once waited for the communist call" was one of there lryics, I thought that was such a cool lryic.

Also another "band" I hate, ICP. I hate those guys. Hate hate hate, there so stupid. There music has very little meaning, I dont I just hate them. I could go deeper into but I am sure it would offend some people here.

As far as bands I do like? Pearl Jam, Metallica, Alice in Chains, MegaDeth, Black Sabbath, Ozzy,Iron maiden, this list goes on..They had talent, they wear good song writers, great musicians, there music ment somthing. It had feeling, meaning. Notice all those are old bands. I like very few new bands. Disturbed are good. Static X can be ok somtime. Not too many new bands I like.

So there is my 2 cents.

Well...as embarssing as it is too say it, I actually do like some country music...Hey I am from Texas, what did you expect?

I dont like too much of it, but Charlie Daniels, some of Alan Jackson, Lrynard Skynard, even though they wearnt realy country.

Another band I forgot to include was The Scorpions. I like them alot. Winds of Change is such a cool song. They have a bunch of good ones.

I like listening to a broad range of music, from Limp Biscuit to Ministry to Dre to Chilli Peppers to Korn to All Stars to Check This Out to... the list goes on [img]smile.gif[/img]

- The only music genres that I have never been able to get into would be country and pop (those fabricated bands just don't work ;) )

I would never diss someone on the type of music they liked so long as they really did like it rather than just going with the flow, (as Talthyr has posted previously ;) )

BTW has anyone else noticed that Britanys breasts are shrinking?

I listen to almost everything out there... however I have high expectations of quality, and 99% of pop bands just don't measure up.

My Favorites (by Frequency of play) of late:
Disturbed, POD, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Blink 182, Santana, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, Alice in Chains, Chris Isaak, Tracy Chapman, Queen, Slipknot, Powerman 5000, Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I think that most of the people who hate Country Music have yet to hear GOOD Country Music. Country is just as susceptable to the "POP Music" phenomena as Rock. There's almost NO modern country that's worth a damn (imo [img]smile.gif[/img] ), but if you watch "Brother, where art thou" and don't find yourself getting caught up in some of the Excellent bluegrass that fills that movie from get to go... well THEN you can say that you really don't like country.

I must admit that I'm a Country Boy... and I still regularly listen to John Denver (a bit folkish but still country imo), Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Willie Nelson, and OF COURSE... Johnny Cash.

Totally agree with all this.

Finally, another person who knows the difference between proper punk and this new type which I give a different name, though I probably shouldn't say here.

I'm glad I haven't heard of them if they're as bad as you say they are.

Again, I agree, for a start, although I say it all the time, Metallica are my favourite metal band (and don't let anyone tell you they're heavy metal!!!) (Well, I like those apart from Disturbed, don't really like them)
Not as keen on MegaDeth as I am on Metallica, but that would be hard. :D
Most of the music I like is also old ones, and the ones you put, like slayer, maiden, sabbath, but you forgot one from a little earlier than maiden's real widespread popularity, and when Sabbath were just starting out with someone basement tracks.... Deep Purple... just sit back and listen to the kickass tune Into the Fire... classic.
Then there's Led Zeppelin of course.
You could say I'm into the real golden oldies.
Agree on the new bands thing too, I'll give a brief analysis.

Linkin Park- I don't care how good people say Chester's voice is, I don't like their music, and now their music has become hip-hop, also IMO they are a boy band.
Static X- I suppose they *are* better than LP and that lot.
Sum 41- I'm not even going to start, my hatred for them is too deep for words.
Blink 182- Their music is lame and childish, as are their weak lyrics, who wants to hear about their relations with a dog???
It goes on.

However, I do like some slightly newer bands, like SOAD (their first, self-entitled album is better IMO than Toxicity though) and the Deftones are alright.
I also like some more bands from before the rise of accursed Nu-Metal, such as Pantera, some Fear Factory, Sepultura, *OLD* machine head, for example the song Davidian, their new stuff is Nu-Metal rubbish frankly.

P.S And MagiK!! For once we agree on some things, (apart from Foreigner... and I haven't heard music by Kansas) the old bands are classic, I just wish I could've been there at the maiden tour for Clive. :(

I liked Dio best as a vocalist, but my favorite album is Difficult to Cure which had Joe Lynn Turner - his voice isn't as good, but I like the songs more on that one.

It's cool that you play drums! I play bass - but I'm a bit out of practice at the moment, all my calluses have gone so it will hurt when I start again :( Hehe... Epona, I can't really even think of Rainbow without hearing Dio's vocals in the back of my mind. *LOL*

My favorite album, however, was Finyl Vinyl which had a great mixture of the bands line-ups on it. I especially enjoyed being able to listen to both Turner and Dio on the same disc.

But my favorite is the dobro. But I like alot of different music.

Well I like pop music.. why, because it is so damn good!!! Although yes, the singers namely Britney and all those didn't write their songs, but those songs sure does have great melody and all that so I like it, I am praising the composer more than the so-called Artist, and hell those kind of Artists really well are just pleasurable to watch...

The reason why I like bands and Alternative stuff is because they write their own songs, play their own instruments. I myself is involved with a band, and I tell you, it is hard to be in one and stay in one. But then by the end of the day you can only feel one thing, the appreciation of what you did... ;)

Another of my fvourite bands of all time that I recommend to all... Tool.
Thhey are really good, and they aren't just mindless noise, they are, shall we say, the 'thinking man's metal.'

Well, I've already given a little rant before on another thread, but yea, I'm all about the hardcore music. Not because of other people, but just because of the emotion, the blaring guitars, the fast drums, the intensity of it all. Some of what I listen to, you wouldn't know because you don't see them all over MTV or anything like that, plus some is local.

Country: I'll never listen to it, but I'll give it some respect, well the older stuff. It's been around so long. The new stuff though... it's just changed into pop. But I don't really care anyway.

Pop: Hot girls/guys singing songs about how they are in/lost their love. I spit on it.

Rap: Makes me sick. Everyone does it, including white guys now. Bling bling ya'll, dollars... *shudder*

Punk: Good stuff, I listen to a fair amount of it, but, of course, I favor hardcore a lot more. Sell-outs are bad. =\ NOFX and AFI rawk. ;)

Black Sabbath is my favorite band, and I do enjoy the Paranoid cd! Also Master of Reality is great! And the song The Wizard from the first is great really loud! I also like the Heaven & Hell cd with Dio singing after Ozzy left.
