Tuesday night we had a very powerful storm blow through here. Even though the (unprepared) news stations swear up and down there were no funnel clouds in the storm, KHaN's aunt and uncle's windows imploded before they could get home from the city, his grandparent's 50 year old chinaberry tree was completely uprooted and thrown into power lines, semi-trucks on I-35 were picked up (en route) and flipped completely around, landing in lanes on the other side of the highway and a path of general destruction was left behind.
We acquired our fourth dog in all this mess LOL. Blown in from who-knows-where and as of yet unclaimed by anyone looking for it or even the local animal control services (who have put us off for three days with weak-to-stupid excuses as to why they can't come get it), KHaN managed to get Hercules to let her into "his" back yard today where they played til they dropped. Not much bigger than a Jack Russell terrier (now lol) and with a husky-like face, the dog is still something of a pup but appears to have had a litter of pups already...still, her paws are big, her teeth are very clean and the biggest surprise of all, she came without parasites (although she was starving). So I guess we add another mutt to the collection. :1dizzy: See Her Pic Here Any suggestions for a name? |
The dog looks like Milo from 'The Mask'. Cute. :D
I'll try to think of some suggestions for the name... |
Poor little thing..
How about Kasey? |
mm how about stormy to remind you of how you got him? Sorry i'm terible with names but cute dog.
|
I was thinking something along those lines too Blade, cute critter, perhaps you could call it "Tornado"? "Cloud"? How about "Rain"?
|
Hey my cousins had a dog that looked something like that. It was a *he* though, and he had a much longer tail. Have you decided on a name for her yet Moni?

Oh the poor little baby! I hope she finds her owners soon; you're so good to look after her, Moni
Hmmm, she looks like a Sugar to me ;) |

We still haven't decided on a name yet but KHaN is nixing any that are storm or weather related, sorry guys! I am thinking of putting up fliers in some of the small towns west of here (the direction the storm came from) and seeing if maybe she is more lost than we think. I'd like to keep her if she remains unclaimed, she and Herc really get along great and the two older dogs are much relieved to finally get some rest and relaxation away from Herc's never-ending supply of energy. ;) I really like "Sugar" I'll run it by KHaN when he comes in and see how it flies. He likes Kasey. She is going to be KHaN's dog...at least for a while...Herc ("my" dog) won't let her near me without getting jealous and turning mean...I'll have to work on that if she is going to stay). Animals are always fun, cant think of any name that isnt a stereotype right now so I wont bother.

Well get this...she answers to Sugar!!!
:D :D :D Its probably her name or something very close to it (I rescued a puppy in AZ that answered to "Madeline" whenever I was talking with the dog next door...when I found her owner to return the pup, I found out her name was "Maggie" )...now if no one claims to own her I'll have to make sure it won't hurt KHaN's grandmother if I call her Sugar...she had to put her beloved Schnauzer to sleep not long after I got here (almost 3 years ago) and the Schnauzer's name was...you guessed it...Sugar. I'm sure it will be OK with her but she is very sensitive about her dog and I wouldn't want to make her keep suffering by having her hear us talk about our own. Know what I mean? |

I know what you mean about being sensitive about names. Names are so personal, and pets, for some people at least, are members of the family, when you lose them it's so devastating and having another animal sharing the name is tough, it's like I've lost my Sugar, but there you go with yours. One of my friends lost their corgie called Kaiser, and they drove to all the way down the coast that very night to get an identical dog, which they called... Kaiser. I don't know if it made them feel better, but to me it seemed a strange, and rather insensitive (to the dogs, both old and new) thing to do. And of course it backfired, the new dog was a puppy, and did naughty puppy things, which was nothing like the old Kaiser who was old and feeble, so they got cross with him for not being the old Kaiser. I have the feeling if they'd given their new dog its own name and identity they would have loved it more :( |

I doubt that Nanny would think this dog has to be at all like her Sugar, esp with the obvious difference in quality of breeds and all LOL. I just wouldn't want it to pain her to hear us talk about "Sugar" in regard to this dog when her Sugar meant so much to her and she has so many memories of the years her Schnauzer was with her. Let's hope she is OK with it or that we can find her owners and not have to worry about it. |
I always remember this lovely old labrador our old next door neighbour had called amber, and she'd eat almost anything.
Once in fact she saw a bag with a discarded chelsea bun in (a very large one too) and ate it in a few bites. Pets, what would the world be like without them? |

My neighbor's dog Madeline was a golden retreiver. Great dog...she'd bring me her tennis balls and drop them through a missing slat in the fence so that she could chase them when I threw them back over. Her owners kept a red bandana around her neck and she adopted me as her playmate for the seven years that they lived there and would bark at people who came into my yard if they did not know her name haha. I got up one day and she was gone, their house was empty...they had moved away. :( I still miss her. |
Another doggy story ---
Our neighbours owned a dog that, after eating its food, would go actually go and bury the food bowl somewhere in a garden bed. They got tired of seaching for the bowl all the time, so they went and bought some cheap plastic bowls. Doggy went and buried them as well. Then they bought paper bowls. Woofy didn't bury them, he ate them instead !! Finally, they got a large metal food bowl and fastened it to the ground. |
LOL Pangur Ban!
KHaN's parents have a Boston Terrier that buries everything he can get into his jaws, but he's all paranoid about it and if he thinks if anyone or any thing (their other dogs and cats) saw where he buried it, he'll quickly dig it up and carry it to a more private spot in the yard...you could drive him crazy following him around...giving him enough time to bury it but not enough time to leave the area hahahaha. I'd never do that to him on purpose but I have walked into the yard while he was finishing burying something just to see him dig it up and run off with it, checking over his shoulder to make sure I wasn't followig LOL. |
UPDATE:
We found out who Sugar's owners WERE...people who live just down the street from us that don't care where she is or who is taking care of her. We declare her OURS. :D |
Yay! Sugar is yours! :D Glad to hear that you've managed to acquire another sweet dog May she enrich you lives
|
Thank you so much Neb!
*HUGS* You're so sweet! |
That's great Moni! I'm so glad Sugar has people to love her now, obviously those people who didn't want her aren't the right parents for such a sweet little baby . I read in another thread that your dogs were poisoned? I hope they're all all right :( .

Thanks Aelia Jusa
Thank you also for your concern. Yeah, we don't know if it was a set of burglars that hit the Women's Club's house next door (that they use for donations left on the porch) or some drunkards that were renting the house behind ours since they moved at the same time the burglaries and poisonings took place (Hercules made sure he barked at the drunkards constantly when they would fight out in the street during the wee hours of the morning and anyone who approaced the Women's club as well). Hercules was the worst off of the three and almost died. He had to have a blood transfusion in order to save him. Thank goodness for the good hearts of KHaN's parents because we just didn't have the financial means to have it done at that moment in time. The other two were not as bad off but Zip was threatened with potential death if we did not get her an antidote to what appeared to be the injestion of rat poison. Our vet turned us on to Vitamin K, a natural antidote to the rat poison and a preventative to death from any future poisonings so they get and extra snack every day....a bit of chicken hot dogs with a vitamin K capsule stuffed into it. :D We also fenced in a section of the yard, not giving them the full run exposed to the house behind us, the street that runs alongside the yard, or the driveway area that is next to the yard of the Women's Club during the overnight hours and so far so good.
