Remember your favorite old game? The one that you used to play all the time years ago, perhaps the one that you still take out for a spin now and then today.
Imagine that game remade, instead of having a 486 and 8mb of RAM as it's optimum, imagine it made for a Geforce 2 MX, 800 Mhz, 64 mb RAM, Surround Sound and whatever other goodies you might have now that you didn't have then.... Wouldn't that just be totally cool? Your favorite game remade? I can clearly imagine some of my favorite old games(Lands of Lore 1, Hero Quest/Quest for Glory series, Chrono Trigger(SNES game), Betrayal at Krondor.), with their cool stories and great characters, games that I still find at least as fun as BG2, I can clearly imagine those games remade, no story changes, no changes to what happens or to dungeon lay-outs or to the foes or the combat system. Just juiced up with some of the best that modern techonology can offer. Am I the only one that can see the coolness in this idea? |
I posted mid-last-year about this. Ultima IV & V, of Origin Systems, are both beng remade...
And they looked great, at the time. I'll see if I can find that info again... |
I Can Remember An Old Game Called Spy Vs. Spy On My Atari, That Would Just Totally Kick Ass Remade. So Would An Old Game I Can Remember Called Pandora. You Were On A Spaceship And You Had To Go Around With Different Weapons Killing Loads Of People. That Would Rock!!

The problem with remaking games in genral though is that its usualy done by a bunch of incompetents. look at asteroids. its rare to see a well-done remake, although battlezone and RTCW are examples of very good games. |
What's RTCW???

"Mein Namen" - I still don't know why they hollared that all the time... doesn't it just mean "My Name"? Or maybe I just misunderstood what they were saying?
Wolfenstein was the precursor, Doom and Doom II, and Quake were the Mastepieces. They were as revolutionary as a game software can get. They broke ground in so many areas, each building on the one before. Quite an achievement for the guys from ID -First Person 3d shooters -A player control scheme that was intuitive and incredibly fast... remember all those games where you had to move an icon on the screen and click to move... they were HORRIBLE. -Multiplayer support that was actually USABLE, and made the game infinitely replayable. -Support for FREE internet gaming. The "Pay for Play" sites were doomed to death unless they could add true value to the products they supported... thank ID for that. After I played Quake I took great delight in emailing several of those sites to tell them just how much I was going to enjoy watching their greedy self serving a$$es disappear. And ohhhh I did enjoy it. -User Mods- Allowing Users to build maps and create your own worlds was pure genius. One of the best mods I've ever played was the origonal ThreeWave CTF levels for Quake... I havn't played them for years but I could still draw out maps of every level from memory. -Support for 3d cards- ID software made a lot of money for 3dfx... |
Ultima V is being remade using the Dungeonsiege engine... http://www.dungeonsiege.com/index.shtml
If these guys really release this product in April like they're saying at they might very well steal a lot of the NWN thunder. In this game market you just can't afford to blow months in litigation and expect to hold on to the "cutting edge" technology image. NWN is probably going to be an "also ran" by the time it comes out... too bad. |
Actually, the guards in Wolfenstein said "Mein Leben" -- "my life". It was kind of a dumb thing to say, but the game was still amazing.
I don't know if remakes could capture the magic of games from 20 years ago. Fact is, a lot of older games would pale in comparison to what we have nowadays, but back then we were happy to have them! I spent many happy hours playing the original Ultima, but when I played it last year as part of The Ultima Collection, it just wasn't the same. It's being remade with a full-3D engine, but I suspect that the remake (however well it may turn out) will bear little resemblance to the original. That said, I'd like to see remakes of the Ultima Underworld games--they were simply amazing--and the Starflight series. Well, they're actually working on Starflight 3 (http://www.starflight3.com) and there are a number of other fan-built Starflights in the works. Life is good. |
Warcraft II baby... and it's being remade! The only problem is that they didn't see fit to include me in the beta. Oh well...
|
no one wishes to remaked master of orion?? :( i thought that was a good game before.. and im actually playing it once in a while..
|
I would hope they remake Quest for Glory 2: Trial by Fire...
Oh, Neb- have u played Dragon Fire ?? (It is from my sources, the last of the series. It is QFG-V) If you havent, I would not recomend it... it is very linear, and almost entire hack-and-slash. Also, it has an interface different to the sierra standard... And ofcourse, Police Quest. Now theres a good game... |
Police Quest was corrupted when they made it into SWAT, then it became a shooter.
And QFG V is the last of the series, and it's pretty good in my opinion. However, if you look around a bit you might be able to find the site of a bunch of people who are making a QFG VI. By the way, does anyone have the PSX remake of the SNES game Chrono Trigger? I can't find it anywhere :( |

quote:
Originally posted by Neb:

Yosimo entertainment (the branch of Sierra responsible for QFG, PQ, KQ, SQ, etc) was taken over or something, and began making realy stupid games, like SWAT. Shortly after it was taken from Lori and Cori Cole, (the original owners) it was shut down, hardly surprisingly. Yeah, I saw something about Quest for Glory 6... when I was lurking about the Sierra Forums... if only, if only I could have registered... but, they were not at the time taking some free email servers (such as yahoo and hotmail, where all of my numeous addresses lie). QFGV was fairly alright... I personally think it was lacking in story line depth, and once you played through it once, it was ruined for you... same quests for all 4 character types... and the spells/ palading abilities were just plain stupid!! There was one good joke in it, IIRC, when you played as a paladin, and went to one of the Dragon Pillars... if it had a single goon, the message read "by the pricking of your thumbs, something stupid nearby comes" an obvious bastardisation of Macbeths (I think, anyway) "By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes".. had me laughing for hours!! Also, I hated the combat system... none of the monsters knew how to dodge!! Thats where I liked So you want to be a hero I used to have lots of fun getting rich from Dab-nab-it, and clearing out the Goblin Central Combat Training Zone... Also, Neb- in So you want to be a hero, did you play the original, or the remake ?? I have played both, myself... (some edition of the first 4, and the original version of SUWTBAH) I prefered the remake.. faster, and more challenging (I couldnt overcome the erge to cheat to raise my stats to phenominal extremes in the oringinal!! :D :D ;) ) |
I've never played "So you want to be a hero(I)" or "Trial by fire(II)"
I've played "Wages of War(III)", "Shadows of Darkness(IV)" and "Dragon Fire(V)". SoD was my favorite :D Never managed to find that damn Whirlwind spell though :( And my character from SoD which I tried to import to Dragon Fire was screwed up because I'd completed some quests in the wrong order and ended up with the spell to free Erana's staff still in my spellbook when it should have dissapeared :( I miss my mage |
OMG!!! I wanna have a Chrono Trigger game that is in full 3d!!! ahh!!! the pain of not being remade is a lot for me... I want my SNES back (my dog ate the cord) and play it there!!!...

It is rumoured that the fairy queen will sometimes use it on you instead of frostbite, but I have never experianced this. It is like Thermonuclearblast in WOW. (wow- that spells wow!! wow!! ), your character cannot get the scroll of it until DF, (the Famous Adventurer gives it to you). Although it is IN wow... the Demon Lord will use it on you if you take too long at the end. And the wirlwind scroll you get from Erasmus in DF. I would recomend you travel to Spielburg and Shapier (SUWTBAH and TBF respectively), because it will give you a bit of background to the last 3. For example, you will meet Fenrus and Erasmus in Spielburg, and infact get the Dazzle spell from them if you do the right stuff... and you meet Uhura and Rakeesh Sah Tarna in TBF... they run the guild hall... also, Elsa Von Spielburg and Toro (Toro like hero man!!) in SUWTBAH. Its actually quite fun... |
You CAN get the Thermonuclear Blast spell in WOW, I can't remember exactly how to get it, but I KNOW that I got it at one point.

I never managed to get it, and read numerous walkthroughs all of which said that it makes an appearance only if you tarry too long in the last room, where you face the demon wizard.. odd... |
To those of you who play RTCW - do you have to join a clan to play online. If so what clans are you in?
|
I really enjoyed and played the heck out of ShadowRun. The old Sega Genesis cartridge game. I wish they would make that into a PS2 or PC game. I used to run the net on that game all the time. You could buy a cyberdeck and upgrade it. Buy attack programs, stealth programs, defense programs and go after the Mega-Corporations. If you didn't like the net you could always go out and do some Street Samurai jobs. It was loads of fun.
But...I doubt they will ever remake that one |
I remember playing a game once on the Amiga 500. I always though it was called Spacequest 3, but I found out later Spacequest 3 was another type of RPG. Anyway, the game started with u having a ship and you could travel to all these other planets to mine minerals and metals and such to sell. Then u could upgrade your ship as you go along, like better armour, shields lasers and torpedo's up to grade 5. It was greeat fun. If anyone knows what I'm talking about and perhaps give me its reall name I'd appreciate it

X-COM! UFO DEFENSE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!
My absolute fav. game of the 486 era! I still play it on occasion, although the magic is a bit lost. Still kickin! Another version of the original would be killer. The UFO and alien theme seems to be a bit passe now though. So I doubt it would happen. |
They should remake the Game & Watch games like Donkey Kong Jr. into 3d. I also believe the shuld bring Final Fantasy games to Xbox. What are your thoughts?
