Don't worry, it'll be REALLY active once NWN is out.

Well, I'd consider it a reality fact really. I mean no one is going to hold America a peacful country so to say. Or any community will not be all friendly and nice and kind in all ways to each other, at least not forever. Its more of a reality aspect, as a community grows, there will be different discussions, more discussions, more heated topics that eventually will lead to heated discussions. I mean America as I know, was a very peacful and a nice country before. But when many many pepople like myself included imigrated to America, it became bigger, and much more unstable so to say, un-controlled, and well people stopped being nice, and got real so to say. So IronWorks grew and more people came, different people hehe. But truly I must say the last few weeks have been heated, but not to a huge extent. Its was pretty cool and fun here actually, at least for me hehe.

Hmm ive only been on a couple of threads so I don't know for sure what your talking about specificly, however [img]smile.gif[/img] the poking and prodding I have seen jsut seem like regular family squabbles to me...maybe Im just used to a disfunctional family :D All I know is if anyone EVER feels like Im being rude or picking unfairly all that ever needs be done is a simple PM pointing out the offense and Ill back off. I can be stubborn and I can be prickly but I will never intentionally hurt someones feelings. I give as good as I get (I hope) but rarely take it to heart..then again I dont think Ive been directly confronted with any of the things you have mentioned.

I am worried a bit though, maybe some of us "newbies" aren't of the same cut of cloth as you more senior members...some of us are less liberal and more conservative (in US political lingo) or maybe its an age thing....don't know..all I know is I hope my presence isnt driving anyone off.

Saz, I know what you mean! I've seen members take on pseudo'mod' hats and start telling others what to do and how to do it without a solitary thought for politeness or propriety.

FWIW-- Discussions can be heated and that is NOT a problem in so long as all the parties involved maintain some level of respect in their posts. You don't need to agree with me, but you do need to avoid calling me names or flaming me because you might be losing an argument.

Ok, before the speculation starts flying (which it already appears to be doing), let me make a few things clear about what I meant:

A) I was in no way referring to the serious discussion threads, which I am pleased are being conducted as well as they are...keep up the great work there. [img]smile.gif[/img]

B) I'm not calling for *forced nicety*...that makes me want to choke and puke as well. I *am* calling for a general atmosphere of respect, though, which a few of our members seem to be lacking in. Not many, thank goodness, but a few.

What IS irritating me, and why I made this post to begin with, is that there are a few members who have decided to take on a pseudo-moderator stance and lecture others about petty *infractions*, some of which is ridiculous. It is high-handed, officious, and downright rude. Like "Excuse me, but who died and made you Mod?" ;)

Now, I know that the IW of 2002 is not the IW of 2001. Maybe that's for the best. It would be terrible if everything stagnated. Forums need to be dynamic and move with the times...but that does not call for a general tossing down of mutual respect for others.

And, on the other side of the coin, as Nachtrafe so well pointed out, yes, people are WAAAY too whiny and oversensitive, especially lately. One of my favorite mottos is, <font color="#ffffff">"Don't run with the big dogs if you're going to piddle like a puppy."</font> That is to say, if you find yourself in a thread that's offending you,

A) take your mouse,
B) point to your "Back" button
C) and CLICK it!

because THAT'S what it's there for!

You certainly don't have to be in nodding agreement with everyone here. But you do have to show them the same level of respect that you expect them to show you as a public forum participant. And if that means shutting your piehole instead of saying something whiny, undercutting, or demeaning, then by all means, keep your peace. Believe me, we have "something for everyone" here, and not all threads are for everyone. Be constructive, not destructive.

To be honest I haven't seen any abusive content on the forum all questions I have asked have be quickly replied to and everyone seems to be generally helpful but then again I have only been a member of this forum for a week so I dont know what it used to be like.

Daniel, it was a bit smaller thats all. Lots of members now and not everybody gets along, but dont let it worry you, this is a nice place.

I’ll try and make it as simple as possible – treat everyone in here the way you would treat them if you were dealing with them in person. Ironworks is like being at one huge house party – we will have highs and lulls, that’s reality. But just because the party’s gotten bigger, and more guests have arrived, is no reason to change the way we interact with each other.

So if it doesn’t pass the “reality check” – don’t do it. ;)
