Black Dragon 01-14-2002 04:09 PM

This is the incorrect version you use:
You start to die the day your born!! So [b]life[b] life to the fullest!!

This is the way it should be:
You start to die the day your born!! So live life to the fullest!!

I just figured you would like to know.

Sir ReGiN 01-14-2002 04:12 PM

PM - use them ;)

Sorcerer Alex 01-14-2002 04:25 PM

And use an apostrophe when combining the words 'you' and 'are' ;)

Grojlach 01-14-2002 06:14 PM

And while you're at it, make your own sig free of grammar errors as well...
its -> it's

Blind_Prophet 01-14-2002 07:13 PM

Man sorry i just wrote it in five minutes. I figured hey i won't get a friggin grade on it so i don't care but if you people think i should work on it i will take those suggestions in mind mabey i could make a new one or better yet i could have one of you people right it since i obiviously can't do it myself. (P.S their are misspellings in this so why don't you correct that as well grade it too if you like)

AND BY THE WAY NO HARD FEELINGS!!!!!

Ares 01-14-2002 07:16 PM

Hey Grojlach..he used it in the correct way in the English language.. it's should only be used when combining "it is", therefore its is perfectly fine the way he used it :D

Blind_Prophet 01-14-2002 07:31 PM

HEY I LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS BETTER!!!! RIGHT BACK IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT. YOURS TRUELY

remove the comma towards the end of your sig statement and you'll be fine. Write how you speak.

Black Dragon...you need more dwarves in your sig. Get with it, man!!

Aelia Jusa 01-14-2002 09:11 PM

But he did use 'its' when combining it is:

<blockquote>quote:</font><hr> It used to be, when you make a game,"Its gotta be fun"...

But now its,"When you make a game its graphics gotta take all the memory!!"

<hr></blockquote>

The third its is fine because it's possessive, but the first means 'it has', thus should have an apostrophe, and the second means 'it is' and again should be apostrophised

Blind_Prophet 01-14-2002 09:27 PM

No offence to anyone but are you guys all studying to be english majors. What is with all the proper english? I don't get it some say type how you speak others say use correct english. If i typed how i spoke though i feel as though lots of people would like to correct my stuff. Being corrected is annoying too, i hate it even though it needs correcting. BUT ANYWAY THIS IS THE SIG AND FOR ANYONE THAT DON'T LIKE IT OH WELL THIS IS HOW IT STAYS!!!!!!!

fable 01-14-2002 09:29 PM

Rule of thumb: say every "it's" as "it is" and see if it sounds like it makes sense. If it does, use "it's;" if it doesn't, use "its."

If you get tired of all this, try a sensible language that avoids contractions. ;)

Sir ReGiN 01-15-2002 02:47 AM

LOL! :D
You're all insane!!
Insane I tell you!!
GET AWAY FROM MY GORILLA!!

Grojlach 01-15-2002 03:25 AM

Thanks Aelia. For a moment after Ares' weird remark, I thought 10 years of being exposed to the English language were wasted on me. :D

And to Ares:

Dude, RELAX!!
They were just kidding around, likely because they agreed with you that Black Dragon's admonishion was a bit over the top ;)
By pointing out the grammatical error in his own sig, they tried to show him he was nitpicking! :D

Welcome to the forums, and don't let this small misunderstanding spoil your fun!

Edit:
Oh and Groj dearie, LOL! Though my English is far from perfect, I have seen numerous native speakers online whose grasp of the language was even more tenuous than mine! ;) :D

I know... The irony is dripping all over this thread. First a guy makes a big fuss over 1 (!) small typo, while he has some grammatical errors of his own in his signature, and when I point that out, well... never mind. Let's just say this thread is silly, yet amusing. :D

Just because you live in a stable it doesn't mean you are a donkey!

You can never be sure they are native speakers becasue of their location Mel.

I know that, Donut, but surely you will agree with me that I can be sure they are a native speaker when they tell me they are, right?
Usually though, it's not because they CANNOT write correct English, but because they're too lazy to do so, maybe I should have added that.

BTW Groj - did you get my email?

Oops, sorry, haven't checked in a while... :embarrassed:
But about the mail: thanks! And the delay is no problem at all, of course...

No problem, Blind Prophet (I really like that nick! ), except for the fact that I'm not a man ;)

Enjoy your stay!!

But you know, you should really think about deleting the last comma in your sig :D

Black Dragon 01-15-2002 07:32 PM

Whoa, I didn't think this would become such a big problem. Sry about that blind prophet. I didn't mean to make you upset. I didn't even notice the prob in mine. (now I feel kinda dumb) darn. *sigh* I'll fix it later. For now. I'm really tired from school and stuff so I'll be going to sleep now.

Sazerac 01-16-2002 01:36 AM

Let's just say let this be a lesson: first and foremost rule of Netiquette: NEVER correct the grammar of a fellow poster...quite possibly one of the rudest things one can do, even in fun.

Oh, and Black Dragon, just so you'll know...the title; it's generally considered to be very poor form to use ALL CAPS. It's called "shouting."

Cheers,
-Sazerac

Saz, I remember for a while at the Elysium one of the regular members signed up with an alter ego called Grammar Check (or something like that) and just corrected everyone's grammar constantly. Well let me tell you, it bugged the shit out of me (can I say that here??)

Also, in case anyone gets ideas about doing that here from reading this post - just bear in mind that it isn't big or clever - and 'I'll visit you in the small hours and put a bat up your nightie' (100 points if anyone can remember what British comedy series that quote is from).

Man I didn't mean to make such a big mess out of this, I just figured since he's my freind and all maybe he might want to know he mispelled something. Sheesh. No biggy.

The point that everyone is trying to make is that IW has a PRIVATE MESSAGE function for things like that - use it! Or e-mail.
Ziroc spends his own time and money on this forum, and has very limited server space. Don't clutter up public forum space by posting messages to one person!

Black Dragon 01-16-2002 10:43 AM

I do send him e-mail every once and a while, but he never sends back so I guess he never checks his mail, plus how do you send the personal messages?

Epona 01-16-2002 10:51 AM

To send a PM, just find a previous post by the person you want to send to - you can use the search function to find posts made by a particular person.
When you are in the thread, look at the post - there are a number of buttons along the top above the text of the post - they are: PROFILE, MAIL, HOMEPAGE, PM, EDIT/DELETE and QUOTE. (MAIL and HOMEPAGE will only be visible if that person put a mail address and homepage address in their profile)

Click on the PM button, and a box will appear allowing you to send that person a private message!
Hope that helps.

Yeah it does. Thanks.

Black Dragon 01-16-2002 10:56 AM

Oh yeah hey I made a new topic about a brain twister. If you know the answer say it. Or if you don't then, try any way.

I don't know what the comedy series is, but I better NOT see anyone pulling a stunt like that in here! There'll be far more than a bat up their nightie's, I'll wager! ;)
