I know, but I really dont want to use Barb.

J'aran 01-05-2002 10:35 AM

Don't know what kind of characters you need them for, but check these:

Aodhaigh
Q'endri
Dolkar
Mazra
Khyron

You could also use names from ancient myths and old religions if you need more.

Lord Shield 01-05-2002 11:27 AM

Heh! I once wrote a program that would randomly pick leters of the alphabet, After 2 consonants, it would force a random vowel

Although names were often odd (needed tweaking), I could also get warped scenario ideas from this ;)

Merkin 01-05-2002 11:31 AM

Tell us a bit about the settings, races, cultures, etc. Might help to pick good names.

Sir Exxon 01-05-2002 11:58 AM

Arleth and Atryven are two names I use often in BG2.
Hmm, try maybe these:
Gyrang
Durtar
Ijinder
K'Grando

Hehe, I'm just making names up.

see ya!

SSJ4Sephiroth 01-05-2002 12:08 PM

i have more than a few, but you cant use them. gonna be my copyright soon hopefully...

Sir ReGiN 01-05-2002 12:37 PM

Yea, Heres A Scene:

Muslim: How Are You Protestant? By The Way, Have You Seen Jehovahs Witness About?
Protestant: No, Go And Ask Jew If He's Seen Him...

That's a joke, right?

I meant of course names of dieties and heroes of old religions.
Like Unferth, Hrungnir, Hildr from Nordic/Germanic myth, etc.
Artemis (Entreri, from FR novels) for example comes from ancient Greek lore. If you take the names of small figures from old legends and stuff, you can get some real cool names.

Scholarcs 01-06-2002 04:15 AM

Try making up names which can be pronounced easily, and remembered easily. For example, if you have a name which cannot be pronouced properly, then the character is less believeable.

If you have different races, cultures or countries, try and have a particular type of name for one. For example one culture always has a K' or a J' in front of the name.

Hope that helped.

Excellent, 10 Out Of 10 For Observation. Clarity Of Thought, Realistic Approach... Very Important In A Job Such As Ours

Kaz 01-06-2002 08:08 AM

Aleis
Shaine
Kerrik
Minjen
T'kos
Harexi
Belan
Zarech
Nadani
Seleya

Just out of the top of my head... tell me if you need more. I agree, it helps knowing gender, race, alignment and profession of the people

Ikarion (my veru first BG characther)
Boaz
Variar
Domantia (a vampire witch in a Ravenloft campaign I once made)

Or just mix well known names like
Aramir
Borogorn (think LOTR )

Sigmar 01-13-2002 03:48 PM

Names huh, how about (some are warhammer influenced but I doubt any of them are copyrighted)

Arkhanis
Teclis*
Tyrion*
Malus (darkblade)*
Thorgrim
Morathi*
Ahriman*
Abbadon*
Imrick
Nagash*
Felix
Gotrek
Zylo
hope that helped!
Edit-Malkaviel is right, I checked if the names were copyrighted and sure enough some of them were, a name with an * beside it is copyrighted, sorry Barb.

Talthyr Malkaviel 01-13-2002 04:00 PM

Actually, sorry to disappoint, Sigmar, but I'm pretty sure all or almost all of them are copyrighted, I know fora fact some of them are, and they make a habit of copyrighting everything they invent.
Also, for names, a couple you Nordic guys and gals might know:
Freki (pronounced Freh- kee)
Geri (pronounced Geh- ree)
I remember my older brother calling two hamsters that years ago.

Sookma those names do not sound like the names you would hear in Tokiens novels of the Forgotten Realms ;) .

Memnoch 01-14-2002 07:52 AM

Click here for a cool fantasy name generator. ;)

250 01-14-2002 08:02 AM

Actually, Tolkiens stories (and i think names) were based around certain mythologies. So i simply gave as many names as I could remember from classical mythology. Its as good as, if not better than, a name generator to know ur mythologies.

J'aran 01-15-2002 03:57 AM

Hey, Barb, I'm curious: did you use any of the names that were posted here? And how are things going in general with your novel?
