Donut 11-26-2001 06:54 AM

He has been lurking for months. he won't post because:

1) He feels we all know each other very well and wouldn't feel part of the group

2) He might lose it a bit with some of the things people post here - he doesn't have great diplomacy skills :D

3) He's just not as funny as me and would get cold living in my shadow (leave it Davros!)

I would be grateful for anything you could do to bring this shrinking violet out from the shadows.

Memnoch 11-26-2001 07:02 AM

This is a message to Donut's brother:

Are you a Tottenham Hotspurs supporter?

If so...

Welcome to the Forum!!!! :D

I support the Reds (NOT the Red Devils) myself, but I've had enough of Donut and his ramblings about the superiority of Frenchmen playing in England (although it's alright when they beat those snotty Man U prettyboys. Why, we played the entire French team a couple of weeks ago and held them to a draw. Don't have any idea why we failed to qualify for the World Cup. :D

Garnet FalconDance 11-26-2001 07:04 AM

Well, I'm relatively new and been welcomed quite warmly, I must say, even amongst those who have known each other for a while! And if he never posts, then how will anyone *ever* get to know him?!?!? Hmmm?

As for the lack of tact, surely he has the ability to keep his fingers off the keyboard if he *knows* a response might offend someone. Or perhaps (now this is a radical idea) he might actually *learn* how to apply a certain amount of diplomacy in the process of becoming a fine and upstanding citizen of IW!

We can't all be brillant comic wits, now can we.

My .02 such as it is.... ;)

Donut, you must be the much stronger, faster, smarter, better looking, favored, and well spoken of your family...(did you steal his lunch money when you were young)...where is he!!

Neb 11-26-2001 07:22 AM

Donut.... Get your brother to post..... I NEED more fresh blood.... Ehm... Did I say "blood"? I meant, I NEED more fresh friends, yep that's right, I have no plans at all about draining all the liquid from your brother's body to feed my insatiable hunger for the blood of the living.... Not at all....

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! - awww, do I gotta leave it unsaid :( - no fair picking on the Aussie. Anyway, Conan said it better than I could have - so, don't evade the question Donut - did you steal his lunch money when you were kids?

Davros 11-26-2001 07:47 AM

And what's his Forum name Donut - let's see, brother to Donut would be..... umm...... PROFITEROLE perhaps???? :D .

Anyway, welcome to Donut's brother, from the guy what spilled his cider all over that other dude's jacket - mmmmm, cider!!!! Jump on in and enjoy the forum. I hope you don't as much as Donut though - I am having a hard time catching up with his post tally. And just so as you will know, Donut and I are the ones around here that AREN'T moderators :D - they are getting so numerous that it is starting to get easier to talk of who is not rather than who is not a "mod". I wonder why they keep overlooking us Donut :D .

He is a little bit 'backward' so you shouldn't have much trouble spotting him from his username. He's getting his broadband this morning so he won't be able to post even if he wanted to.

As to why we are overlooked - perhaps it is that we are so 'immoderate'

Pronunciation ih ma dE riht (I don't pronounce it like that!!!!)
Definition 1. beyond reasonable or appropriate limits; excessive.
Example immoderate desires. (I've got a few of those!)
Crossref. Syn. exorbitant , extreme , excess , extravagant , unreasonable

Yep - that's us all right Davros! :D

Davros 11-26-2001 08:03 AM

So has "Tunod" registered any posts at all yet??? Immoderate huh - where did they get weird pronunciation - your not using an American Dictionary are you Donut :D . Guess it describes us pretty well though.

Conan LOL, if you could see the two of us together you'd know how funny this is. It's fairly clear that nobody *ever* stole our lunch money. (There is a picture of us together on Stealthy's site)

Come on guys, is this the best IW can do? Let's encourage him. Don't believe everything I said about him. ;)

Did you only just pick that up Donut - I thought you were sharper than that - I spotted that yesterday. Hmmm, you couldn't have read the post that I quoted very well :D .

So, what is his username - did you tell him I said hi - can we ask him his opinion on Manchester United and Shane Warne - can he tell us who is likely to win the Davis Cup - can he give us the "low down, deeply hidden goss" on our pal Donut - do the word association / palindromic / anagramatic skills run throughout the family?

I spotted it before you mentioned it but I didn't want to spoil your fun.

No goss on me I'm afraid - what goes on tour stays on tour!

He is well able to give sporting opinions, but they are most likely to be the same as mine. Did anybody steal Shainies lunch money by the way? :D

Greetings friend Donut, and many thanks for making us aware of your brothers presense.
Brother of our famous fluffy confection, I am sorry I am so obviously late with this greetings proclomation. One of the great things about the majority of people here at IW is that they really do love to make new friends, but we/they can't do that if we are not introduced. None of us would expect or want you to feel that you are in competition with the 'CricketMeister'. You are not living in Donut's shadow, everyone here wants to get to know YOU, we already have, and need I STRESS, the "ONLY" Donut! We have a tremendous variety of good people here, many joined the boards and immediately became proliferous posters. Many only post once in a while. I'm among the "Old group" here and I don't post that much and am not known by a large group of people. We have had many tales of people who would post and say, "I have been 'lurking' for a long time and just now decided to post.", and many of them are regular posters now. Don't feel uncomfortable about having been a 'lurker' for a while, many of us were and continue to be 'lurkers' the majority of the time, only posting when we feel we have something relevant to contribute.
As far as controversial issues goes, we all have to decide whether or not to engage in the debates. I myself generally steer clear of them. I have only been involved in one controversial thread that I can recall and it was regarding "Gun control", here in the US. One of our old members "Draconia" from the old board, who hasn't been around for a while was being read the 'riot act' from almost everyone because she had a pistol in the home and small children. People were rightfully concerned about the issues, and didn't care that she lived in the country with no local support, or that her husband was a railroad engineer who was out of town Monday thru Friday. All they cared about were the 'guns' and that they were bad. I couldn't sit there and witness this without getting involved. I didn't insult anyone, or go through my lists of pro's and cons. We often get so caught up in the purely subjective point of view that we lose touch with real world circumstances.
So I posted this; "Regardless of what each and every one of our opinions regarding gun control is, I certainly hope that we would all agree that we would much rather come home and find a would be rapist/ murderer shot dead on our living room floor, than to come home and find our spouse and children brutally raped and murdered because they had no way to protect themselves".
Putting a real life angle on it gave people something to think about and the controversy died then and there.
As I said, that is the only controversial thread I can recall engaging in. You don't have to feel pressured to post to threads that you think might get your dander up too much. If you do feel like posting to one, do so in a respectful, considerate manner and everything should be just fine.
It would be nice to meet you, and will be a pleasure when you decide that you are comfortable enough to introduce yourself to us by saying "Hello", or by responding to someone elses thread.

Hello Brother of Donut! (would that be Bronut?)
Don't worry man...i've been posting since march or something and no one ever remembers me but they are still nice and welcoming. (I have made nearly as many posts as Donut...why oh why don't they know?) Lol! Seriously, there is always room for more - the more people we meet, the better people we become. So post away my friend (Donut also needs all the help he can get against the aussie factor, i'm sure an ally would be most welcome)
Cheers!

Then how come your post count is only 15?
I usually remember almost everybody (ask _max_RUSSKIE...heh), but I don't recall seeing your name around. Were you a member on the old blue board? If you had almost as many posts as Donut, I would surely have remembered you...did you have another name?

Sorry, I was kidding around - my post count is quite correct - i joined the brown board on the old server but kinda lost touch for a while during all those downtimes...

Davros 11-28-2001 09:32 AM

I'm suspicious like you Archbabe :D - I suspect that we have a nom de plume and a double (or multiple identity). Let's see, who do we know that has a lot of posts, likes multiple identities, and would suggest that Donut needs help against the Aussies (kinda specialised knowledge there) - Whugh do we know Whugh would fit the bill???? I wonder?

I can imagine how your brother feels though, Donut. It's certainly not easy to start posting, you feel like you're butting in and getting involved in things that don't concern you. I still feel that myself a lot of the time

To Donut's brother:

1) We can't get to know you if you don't post.

2) Contrary to popular belief, I don't bite.

3) I'm not funny either.

Now, what's your excuse?! (See, I'm not diplomatic either)
