If you can't find at least 1 cool thing about your job, QUIT!
I LOVE my job. I don't get paid very much ($8.50/hour), but I don't do very much either. In fact, almost ALL of my (near) 400 posts were done from work. Hey, I'm at work now. I get paid to play video games and go on the net. Ok, Ok. I'm the Senior Night Auditor at the Country Inn & Suites in Forest Lake, MN. What does that mean? I stay up all night (11pm-7am Sun-Thurs) and do whatever I want. I have to do a little bit of laundry and about 20 min. worth of paperwork. In the morning I set up the continental breakfast. Overall, I work about 2 hours each night and play for 6. Gotta love that! I must admit though, I won't be doing it forever. I want to start college a.s.a.p., but I need to get scholarships, grants, etc. 1st because I only make 8.50 and I have 2 kids and a wife to support. So, what do you like about your job? |
Hi Dutkanator! You've been busy - lots of your threads on the top page!
I don't like my job much - I find it boring. The good thing I can think of is that working for a large government department I can move areas every 2 years if I want to - so the boredom is broken up with learning something new every once in a while. Other than that, the pay is bad, promotion opportunities are dreadful, the work is boring and no-one ever says thank you. |
I love my "job". I can go to a lot of different countries, compete with the best in the world, and legally hurt people :D . The best part though, is that i made my hobby into my "job". I was doing this and was having fun and didn't got a single penny for it. But after awhile i got lucky and now i get a little bit (not that much just enough) money.
|
Don't have one at the moment, but I hope I'll know if I will have one soon, today!
I'm having a very worrisome morning. |
I don't love my job... it's boring... and it's tiresome...
|
I love my job. I have excellent pay for the four or five hours a day I put in. (It helps to be the boss) :D
|
I really like my job, but I guess I try to be professional about it; if you enjoy your job you'll want to get better and better at it and learn more and more. I work for Unilever in category management. Sometimes I work up to 70+ hours a week and sometimes the politics etc are a real bitch but it's such a buzz putting the effort in and seeing the results come through. Plus you meet some really good people (and some really bad ones, unfortunately).

Personally, I'm going through some what of a mid-life crisis with my job. I am beginning to hate it. The one cool thing about my job is the people (and Boss) I work with. The bad thing about it is I can't afford to quit, with car and house payments and two kids. I make too much money to walk away from it. If I could I'd go to work for my dad's company, but my salary would be cut in half with no benefits(he's a one man company; just him self). Oh well, that's just life. I will troop on.

It is in the area of what I like to do, but we are so in the hands of the customer that the creative part is more or less a free-fire-kill zone :S Unfortunatley I can´t just change the job and I don´t know if there is any other job I could apply for with the skills and knowledge that I have.. It is far from my dreamwork, but the people I work with makes it bearable at least. Though a nice raise would do alot to enlighten my position.. ;) |
I really like my job..working in a "building-mall", kinda...can't really translate it to english
It's much better than flipping burgars in the most boring town in the world (Forshaga :1puke: ) Try doing that for three years, and you'll end up LOVING your current job....trust me on this one ;) [ 11-05-2001: Message edited by: Sir ReGiN ]</p> |
Well Memnoch, that is the good about work and all, you win some you lose some...
Me I work as a student, and I don't get paid, only allowances, and I study like 100+hours a week (not really) and I get to meet all of my guy friends and some all of my teachers are great! It may suck when deadlines hang me like hell but I love it, I am in my last year in the agreement ;) |

Just a thought... :) |
I like being able to work outdoors.
Umm, Quit! Not always practical or feasable. And the older we get, the less feasable that can often be. |
Well, if you consider school a job, I hate it in every possible way. Even though there is not one thing I like about it, I still cant quit, even though I would love to.

Like Relic says-not feasable. I also work outside, I think Relic and I are the only two who work construction on this board. Although Sir Tallieson is in the field too and he for sure gets muddy lol. As you get older you learn more, but its only in your type of work. Starting a new type of job wouldnt pay the bills too well........ |
I can't find one cool thing about my job and I'm trying to quit, as soon as I find a new one.
|
Well, I worked as a carpenter for about 8 years before I got tired of being rained (and snowed on)!
I took a new job when I was 38 that paid just $7.00 an hour. Talk about poverty! I hope the story has a happy ending as I currently have no job. But I guess something will happen. I've had 20+ different jobs since I was 16. I guess I'm never satisfied with what I'm doing sometimes! |
Skywalker, you did framing? Good, two guys on my crew quit today due to problems with another guy on the crew. When can you start? Also OnthePequod framed , so he is also hired. Thanks for applying and cant wait to yell at you on the job. Errr I mean greet you to the job.

I've done framing, exterior and interior finish work, roofing, deck-building, siding (wood and vinyl), sheetrocking, hung windows and doors, installed wood flooring, and built garages. Too bad I live so far away and am not apt to move. I could use a good job about now! What's it pay to start and are the benefits any good? ;) |
My job...boring... that pretty much sums it up.
Been there since 1989, small Patent and Trademark Law Office. Boss now is in his 80's. Co-worker is same age. (btw, our office has been functioning since the 50's). Other attorney is late 40's, but very strict and professional acting and well..... boring! The whole atmosphere is boring.... No chit chats between office workers, no sounds of bussling employees, dead silence all day, every day. I think I've been slowly going insane over the years, and almost there now.. The "inventions" our clients have are also boring. Farm equipment, water filters, machinery, coffee mugs, bah. The most exciting invention I've ever come across at work was a "Mississippi Turkey Caller"! We have about 1,000 cases, and now I find myself doing most everything in the office now, cause older co-working is, well, getting old! Refuses to retire. She called in late last week one day, finally got into work round 10:15am. Apparently she had trouble leaving her parking space at home. Forgot that you have to put your foot on the brake before putting the car in reverse. Doh! So I have too much responsibility at work, not nearly getting enough pay compared to what I would get if I quit and went to work in a large law office in D.C., and again, am bored to tears. No forget that, I'm to bored to even cry |
Hi Wendy, will they not give you a raise? And if not it sure sounds like your qualified to go elsewhere to make more $. I know you've been there a long time but......if your not having any fun and can make more well see whats out there. Thankfully I work with foul-mouthed louts, but we have fun. Its the only reason I can tolerate my shit-job lol. Just my bit of shitte advice.
Skywalker-$12/hour(up to $15) to start, and what are benefits? Joking aside hope you find something up there |

Been at this job for so long, I guess I'm probably apprehensive cause I haven't been on an interview in 12 years! Kinda stuck in a comfortable, yet BORING, rut I suppose. And I'm at the point now where I am using hindsight, and an overall view, and thinking I am wasting precious "life" time, if that makes sense. Trust me, one of these days I'll change it ALL out of nowhere! ;) :D |
I hate to say it, but most of us seem to be rather pathetic. Think I'll go have a beer.

My job is satasfactory. I more or less set my own schedule and have good flexibility as long as I hit my quotas. My job is just what I do to support the rest of my life.
|
Well, this is the way my work has been going:
1) We are now down to 1 functioning printer for all the student labs at the school (3) because the printer in Lab 2 (which services Labs 2 and 3) has a broken print server. So that leaves the Lab 1 printer, which now (wonder of wonders) is out of its laser toner cartridge. This is the printer which ALL faculty and students have to use. Guess what now? We're plumb out of toner cartriges. NO PRINTING--Period. 2) Half of the computers in each of the labs are non-functioning for one reason or another. Some of them have faulty network adapters, others have video cards that have gone on the fritz, some have gotten so old that they won't support the latest applications. We're talking Pentium 100's and 133's on some of these...out of date by at least 4 years. In my day Internet class alone, I have seven students, and five computers in the lab that can connect to the Internet (in 256 color, 640 x 480 max resolution). So for their exam tomorrow, I'm faced with having to put one student on the faculty computer in Lab 3 so they can take their test, and just pray that there is a computer available in Lab 2 so that I can squeeze another student in...or hope that someone doesn't show up for the test. 3) We are down to 9 faculty members (non-administrative), of which only 4 (of whom I am one) are full-time. At one time, we employed 22 day and night faculty. I am working a 42-hour week teaching schedule (that's actual hours IN the class, teaching, NOT grading, record keeping, and lesson plans) which is the equivalent of a 64-hour work week for a regular job. Max in-class hours for full time faculty in the State of Texas is 30 work hours. I'm 12 hours over, and the load is killing me. What is the problem here, you may ask? LUBBOCK. At one time, our campus (in Denton) was autonomous, part of a larger group of schools that were all connected, but individually run. Since last year, Lubbock (the main campus) has taken back over management of all the campuses. The man who is in charge of all of the campuses (who I will not place his name up here because of legal reasons) is an anal-retentive, control-freak, penny-pinching jerk who makes everyone submit purchase orders through Lubbock for any item, no matter how important or trivial it is (I forgot to mention that we're out of staples, too, so I have to bring my OWN stapler from home and my own staples if my students are to have attached exams). All because this @$$hole has to PERSONALLY approve every little nit-picking thing from every campus, and then if it gets tended to three weeks later, we're lucky (our terms last for 6 weeks at a time, so you can imagine the problems this causes). At one time, the Denton campus of IBS was the "model school": our students had better placement from graduation and we had great retention of students. They scored the highest on any of the certification exams we give. Now, that campus is a pathetic heartbreak. Students are leaving and not returning; morale is low, and even the faculty is talking about quitting. I'm looking for another job even as I'm teaching there. I told some of my colleagues today, "So when do we riot, or should we strike?" And THAT is how my job is. Something that at one time was one of the most rewarding occupations I could have chosen has been turned into a cesspool. An absolute tragedy of mismanagement. I know why the "owner" doesn't come to see the campus. He knows he'll be lynched; strung up by us faculty as soon as he sets his penny-pinching @$$ on the premises. So, I ask you. What should I do? WHAT DO I DO???? :( Regards, |
What should you do Saz? Well my answer would be to seek better opportunities. Your intelligence and perception could be used elsewhere in a better environment worthy of your excellence. Just my opinion ;)
And hey, my co-worker refuses to use anything but Word Perfect 5.0 (1988 people!!!) control F8, Alt F10, Shift F6, ack! Me start fire soon with these wood sticks, squat down with me in the dirt. |
