Actually it's Kaz who needs help, but she can't use the internet because of problems with Netscape, she needs to know how to clear the cache, can anyone help her? Just post here and I'll pass it on through AIM.

Find the folder:
Program Files\Netscape\Users\(Kazara's Netscape Username)\Cache
Delete everything and its cleared.
I think.
Hope that helps!

No problem Kaz.

More problems, seems as though Kaz's cache is acting up again, she's restarting her computer at the moment, does anyone have any idea on how to solve this a more permanent way?

Neb 11-03-2001 12:29 PM

Kaz has given me some of the symptoms in order for those who might wish to help her to have a better chance:

The page starts loading okay
however, it stalls at a certain number
like, for instance
I start loading IW
It contacts ok, starts transferring data
and hangs up at, say, 189 bytes transferred
it acts like it's still transferring
but doesn't get any further
the thing that is shown in the window is basically what you last saw
Like if I try loading Netscape now
the window goes white
if I minimize it again
and then open it
I see my background and your chat window in the window

It's possible there's not enough free disk space for Netscape to create chace files, in which case you'll need to make some room or you could

Go to preferences (in the browser)
Open the folder saying 'advanced'
then the one named 'chace'
and reduce the amount of mb/kb netscape is allowed to use for making chacefiles.

EDIT: just saw the latest post too, Neb. I have something similar which is extremely annoying. For a while Netscape may work as normal, but then it slows down and practically freezes. The only thing I've found I could do was close Netscape and press ALT-CTRL-DEL, where you can still see netscape running, close that and try again. It's not uncommon to happen several times in a row either.

And yes, I do have the latest version which didn't change much for me.

Thank you for your help Legolas, I believe that Kaz is trying your idea right now.

Kaz 11-03-2001 12:48 PM

All right, I reduced the cache size to 0. It's working now, the question is just for how long. Stupid computer!

You're welcome
I wish I had a more definite solution though... It's just plain annoying when Netscape freezes just as you are posting a reply or something similar.

The big problem with Netscape is that it's slow and has these annoying memory cache problems. Have you tried switching to Internet Explorer?
