Ziroc 11-03-2001 01:35 AM

I Just upgraded to the latest version, and have to make 'templates' for EACH forum for the 'graphics layouts', I just finished Gen Con's, and the others will be fixed tomorrow.

Who's Online and Member Rankings WILL be back, I just need to install the 'Mod' back into the code. (It is a LOT better too in this version) :D

Colon Smiles will also be back, and everything else as well.. The Post 'Box' you type messages in will be widened, and fixed up a LOT.. I don't like it.

Lot's more 'fixes' tomorrow

Lifetime 11-03-2001 01:36 AM

It looks awsome Dan.. er but what IS the Who's Online function? I never noticed it.. :(

Link 11-03-2001 02:55 AM

Oy! I like that new thing; "No new replies since the last time you were here" Really good! Now I don't have to remember all the posts in the topic!

What are you talking about?

Neb 11-03-2001 03:03 AM

Can't you implement something so that you DON'T have the "show signature" box automatically checked? It's annoying because I don't use my sig in RP threads and for short messages, or generally anything that's short than my sig, but I've been forced to go back and edit several posts already just to get rid of my sig.

It is there so people do not have to keep clicking show signature. If you don't want to show your sig just remove the tick mark from the box

But now there are some people who are going to have to click show signature again to remove the checkmark from the box.

Ramon de Ramon y Ramon 11-03-2001 04:20 AM

 'nuff said ! ;)

But, Dan, one question: if you are "member number 2" who is Member number 1 ? Choc ? :1ponder: ;) Ah, I see: <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>colon smileys will be back <hr></blockquote> ... lol

Neb 11-03-2001 04:45 AM

Hmmm..... One small problem, to refresh the main page to remove "New posts" tags, you have to log in and out instead of just refreshing the main page.

Fair enough, but then again all the people who previously had to tick Show Signature for each post they made don't have to do so anymore.

There will always be a for-and-against with this particular function. ;)

Neb 11-03-2001 04:55 AM

But now there will be more load-time-increasing huge sigs in all of the threads, also, could you perhaps implement something that prevented any post of less than 20 words from having a sig beneath it? It's annoying that whenever someone says, for example: "Good morning, Jerome", they have a sig beneath it which fills half of my screen, or more.

WOLFGIR 11-03-2001 05:13 AM

I like it , I like it!
It´s a bitlike the old days, mixed with compltely new mornings!

And you can see who made the last post!

ZIROC! You rock!

Though I noticed here that there are alot of new things here!.. hmm what does this button do??
  • Cool!
    now
    i
    can try

Kaz 11-03-2001 05:23 AM

Hm...
Took a look at the forum, thought I was still asleep! It's certainly going to take getting used to...
But I agree, it's probably better this way! Now I just have to try editing my sig to make it a bit smaller so I can use it more often.

Why Neb arnt we in a disagreeable mood this evening?

Mouse 11-03-2001 05:28 AM

Generally nice work......but......am I right that the trick of activating HTML code in sigs by using the edit function has gone???

If so, unless someone can help me out, the days of my nice flying bat thing and eyecatching colour are gone.....*sob*

It's weird.. UBB6 doesn't have a '#1' user.. it starts at #2. I even went to the code to see.. weird. ;)

adam warlock 11-03-2001 05:50 AM

THIS will take some getting used to ... give me about 3 days...
are you going to archive the GD pages? it's interesting to see about 43 pages on the top...

oh good instant ubb code and my sig is already chosen
THANKS Ziroc

Well, that should discourage people from making short three-word posts. More often than not, people tend to use their sigs, unless they're participating in huge chat threads. It's not a big deal to untick the box, is it? ;)

Also - we do have sig limits here. We've been a bit lax in enforcing them, but we should start cracking down on those again. Remember that people should have at most 2 graphics in their sig, and they need to conform to a size limit. ;)

Huge chat threads often don't prevent people from using their sigs, no matter how huge they are, and how big a deal is it to tick the box? It would be easier if it just remembered your last choice so that those of us who choose not to use our sigs in every post, no matter how small it is, don't have to untick it all the time, and those who insist in using their sig in every post, no matter how small it is, don't have to tick it all the time?

It's not that weird, that's normal actually with UBB's; it happened at GameBanshee as well, Buck Satan is member #2 over there as well. Member #1 is the administrator who sets up the forum, and the first one to officially register - Ziroc - will be number #2.

Grojlach 11-03-2001 06:08 AM

Ziroc, something that struck me is that when you make a reply to a thread which is already on the 2nd or 3rd page, that we don't get transferred back to the last page of the thread (with the post I just made), but to the first page. Did they just forget that feature in version 6 or did you have to hack it yourself into the last version as well in order to make it work? I thought we had that feature before...

Well, I doubt brandnew, unmodified, standard software allows html in signatures (that's also the case on ikonboards for example) but I guess that it can be changed with a small hack. Just be patient I guess.

Actually, just like now, the reply page doesn't load completely (it ends just under the Add Reply button) and I can't uncheck the box. And that's pretty annoying, as I'd have to edit the message after posting it just to remove the sig.

EDIT: While I'm at it, when can we 'submit to the choc'? I want to know whap happens if we click the head

I agree! Some sigs are HUGE. Mine is not exactly miniscule - I would actually LIKE it to be smaller - but some are way too big.

I like the Instant UBB Code boxes below the reply window. And the reply window is to small, I agree, Ziroc!

I'm not disagreeing with you. Let's see if it's doable using the software available. I just think that if Ziroc had to choose between making a mod for this and a mod for something else (like sticky posts or something) putting his efforts elsewhere would add more value to all of us. It's only a tick box, dude, relax! I don't really care either way. It takes 1 second to tick and untick it. ;)

At the bottom of each forum; normally it said: "Topic", "Hot topic", "Closed Topic". Remember? Now there are two new icons: "No new posts since last visit- Normal Topic", and "No new post since last visit- Hot Topic"
Comprende? ;)

Mouse was doing something he wasn't supposed to (incorporate HTML in sigs). ;) The danger with having HTML in sigs is that if people aren't careful with their closing HTML tags it can do really wierd things to the entire webpage (like entire sections marqueeing or sliding all over the place). ;)

It did? Hmm, my apologies then, I thought it always brought me to the last page... I'm pretty sure that was the case at BGDungeon, cause when I first started posted on ikonboards, it struck me they always brought me back to the first page after making a reply. But now I'm unsure of whether it brought me to the first or last page at Ironworks... :D

Hmm, you're right. The last time I used html code, it apparently created problems in some browsers as well.
Edit: now I think of it a little better, it's actually an improvement that we can't edit our sigs anymore once the post is made...
