Where there are monsters and barbarians there will be Byronas fighting against them.

Neb 10-26-2001 09:51 AM

I've seen better, but it's still a good movie, had some well-made sad scenes.

Absolutely LOVED it!

I get so emotionally involved. I want to slap the crap out of the spoiled Caesar and I cry, every time, at the end.

Gladiator was one damn good movie. Great storyline although I was a bit let down when he died in the end. Okay I understand that he didn't exactly have mush to look forward to with his family dead and all but that's just me. Still though, that movie deserves 2 thumbs up from me!

I think those five Oscars was so absolutly well-deserved! I have the movie, a poster and the music on CD! Russell Crowe did a great job beeing Maximus!
And the line in my sig, thats what Maximus said to his soldiers before fighting the germans. I think thats says how much I love it! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif

What a bad a$$ movie!! How can you not be the man when your name is Maximus? It's right there underneath Braveheart for me.

Keylow 10-26-2001 01:40 PM

I think it's a pretty good movie.
I like the line he says when the emperor wants to meet him and he doesn't take
of his helmet.
He says something like: "I am Maximus something, husband to a murdered wife, father of a murdered son."
I think he says that right before he says your line Byronas.

btw, is my sig working??

Byronas 10-26-2001 01:50 PM

Lord Exxon you are a BIG FAN of Gladiator. I know that it says that Keylow but I said what I liked more in that phrase.

I don't know, did you click the 'show signature' box just below the box you typed this in? You have to do that EACH time you want your sig to show before you hit the 'submit reply' button. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Best movie I ever saw. really good http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../xyxthumbs.gif
Bokken, cool sig!!!!!
And Milamber, Maximus is a roman name, it means "the best" because he was the best general in the roman empire, he deserved the title, just like braveheart earned his (Bravehart was ok).

Keylow, I will have to correct you to. He says:
"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commandor of the army in the north, general of the Felix-legions. Loyal servant to the true Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my revenge, in this life or the next". This is also my favorite lines, but it took to much room in my sig.
Sorry about all this correction guys!

By the way, the dialouge continues like this:
C- "Now tell me, did your friend smiled in his own death?"
M- "You must now. He was your father."
C- "You loved my father, I know. But so did I! That makes us brothers doesn't it? Now smile for me now brother!" (now he plunshes a knife in M's back)
C- (now he is talking to Quintus) "Stretch on his armour. Consoul the wound!"

M=Maximus
C=Commodus

Mmh, nice movie but not that good.
It gets a bit boring after a while and the story is pretty predictable.

Actually it was Maximus Decimus Brutius, not Meridius. It was a good movie, but there were some inaccuracies which really irriate me being an ancient history student. Like his name, it should be Decimus Brutius Maximus, because Maximus is his cognomen (nickname), which comes after his first and family names. Plus the fact that there were woman and men all in the stands at the Colosseum together, when they should have been segregated. But that's just me nitpicking http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Btw Lord Exxon, I noticed when quoting you that your sig isn't acutally a sig, but something you type into all your posts. You can go to your profile and make your sig properly so you don't have to type it in every time http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Yeah, I know I can type it in in the profile, but then I cant get the anim there!
Besides, his name IS Maximus Decimus MERIDIUS!
And they putted up women and men together in the arena on real! No one can beat me on this field, I am studying history.

Yes you can, just right click on the picture and click on properties. Then copy the URL and put it into your sig like this: [IMG] http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...o_ani_fire.gif [/IMG} but delete the spaces after the

Okay, his name might be Meridius, I've only seen it once. But they do separate men and women, women have to sit up the very top of the stands while men sit further down, I'm sure I can beat you, I'm studying ancient history too http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I'll just be the grit in your oyster then. Apart from the action/CGI stuff, I thought Gladiator was overrated.

Oh, and just why does Russel Crowe's standard expression remind me of someone just starting to suffer from the effects of chronic constipation? (as opposed to Steven Segal who needs Ex-lax or a large amount of dietary fibre NOW!!!)
