Just listening to more "rumors" which may or may not be true. Working for a living means I miss a lot of news coverage during the day. Anyway, heard two things, was going to ask yall if you heard anything similar, and if it is true or not:

1. Apparently there were short interviews with some of the workers who got out of the WTC in time. Many of the people were on the lower floors. When the plane hit their building, their supervisors told them to go back to their desks, it was "just an explosion"???!!! Some decided to ignore said supervisors and leave the building, which in the end saved their lives. I cannot believe after a plane actually penetrated the building, that supervisors would look it it like it was no big deal, and to tell employees to "get back to work." Hope this is a true "rumor" and not a fact!

2. Some guy down in the rubble at the WTC used his cellphone, and ended up calling Canada of all places, saying repeatedly "I'm alive I'm alive." Canadian reported the call to NY police, and they are investigating. Rumor? Haven't heard a thing myself on the news about it, just got this particular info from a family member. Also, does anyone know how many floors of these WTC towers had underground? If there are a few floors under there, do you think the collapse didn't affect them as bad, and they could still be alive down there?

3. Lynchburg, VA Minister Jerry Falwell (sp?) stated publicly, in so many words, that God is punishing us, and what has happened is all our fault! He very soon after that took his words back and apologized, after hearing the outraged outcry from people all over America. True? If so, what do you think? I disagree that God would send out Evil to do Evil myself, I find those comments outrageous and totally an inappropriate thing to say as a popular? Minister at this particular time, what kind of response did he think he would get? Maybe he just needed to word it differently? Dunno..

1- Yes, I've hear that both those witness accounts on CNN and ABC.

2- Yes, I've hear the actual message behing played on CTV (a canadian network)and CNN. BTW: what's wrong with Canada? So far, this country as been the one that probably helped the most the US in this time of crisis yet, we are barely mentionned.

3- Never heard any of it.

regarding #1, the only interview I saw concerning anything of the sort was someone who worked in the second building that got hit, who was told it was OK to go back to work (prior to the second plane hitting) because the expolosion had been determined to be at the other tower building. They did they know the cause (yet) of the first explosion.

I haven't heard anything to tell you whether #2 or #3 are true or false.

Maybe you haven't seen all of the news articles coming out. There was a special on today about how Canadians held a moment of silence today. Also, how Canadians are helping in the investigation. It brought a tear to my eye when they showed the Canadians singing the American anthem. Believe me, our news agancies are reporting a great deal about Canadians. I'm taking what LadyWendy to mean that she is surprised that one of the survivors would call so far away (unless possibly they were trying to get a hold of family maybe?). There is a great deal of compassion being shown in the world. Canadians are definitely at the forefront of it all. God bless all of them.

#1 Somewhat true: Like Moni said, the only interviews I have heard are from people in the South Tower (2nd hit) and it was security personel from the bldg saying they should go back to work...a lot of people did...only to evacuate fully (at least I hope) after the 2nd plane hit.

#2 True: Heard this on the news many times, but do not know what came of it...whether they found the guy or not (making the phone call, not receiving it)

#3 Don't Know: If it is true then the guy should be lynched...if it is false...maybe lynch him anyway http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Yes Tobbin, I just wondered why that man called Canada. Wondered if he had no family or friends locally, or was just randomly hitting buttons on his cellfone, possibly being very injured. All I know is I felt very touched to know that whoever he called, acted out, even though they lived so far away, and apparently notified the NY police, to try to help out in an effort to rescue him. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Again, Tobbin, I seem to have missed much that has been reported on the news. I am very happy to hear how Canada is helping us out. And also that other countries now are offering aid in any way needed, truly makes me feel close to everyone all around the world, as human beings, united, together we will fight this evil, for all of us. And I hope in the end, we will be better, stronger, wiser, closer. I pray that petty differences will be forgotten, in comparison to TRUE violation, and enemies will become friends, finding out that we all have so many things in common, we are all the same, just living in different places. We are humans, we are brothers and sisters. I pray that something wonderful will come out of something horrible. But again, we must not kill innocents and taint what is good and right, we must get the evil without hurting the good to do so. How this will be accomplished I do not know. But either way, if we all rally together, all the different countries, and support eachother, no matter what happens, "Good" has won one epic battle.

Lady Z...I think the man was probably trying to call a New York # with a 212 area code...but he hit 412 (I think it was 412??...Canada)...the guy with pager said that his pager number was pretty easy with the last four digits being all the same (i.e. 1111) so he thought it was probably a random call but to Canada rather than NYC.

Believe it or not, I barely watched Canadian TV since this all started. I've been pluged on CNN since Hit+2 hours and there almost every hour of the day eversince... they sure don't mention Canada alot http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif. But thanks for bringing to my attention that local US station report on it. Makes me feel better -Given the circumstances of course.

Wow, that's pretty amazing Moridin. That he was able to randomly dial numbers, and actually get someone who actually took action to help him, someone from another country!, someone who Might not have even known was was going on at the WTC, but he did, and he transferred the message to local policemen. You wouldn't think that would happen. I'd think that if I tried that I'd gets some jerk just either hanging up on me, thinking I am a prank call, or someone telling me "You have the wrong number" and again, hanging up. I am so pleased to know that I was wrong, that people will come through for you, no matter where they live http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

The only question I have now is did they rescue that guy yet?

What is this?!?!? Canada is the country right above the US. In fact, you guys should know where we are 'cause we were suppose to take the blunt of the nuclear fall out aimed at your country during the Cold War (let's face it, Soviet technology was never that precise) http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif.

Plus, how could someone not know what was going on in New York. Toronto is about 6-8 hours away from NY (driving estimate). The attack on Western Civilization (sorry, it's much broader than just an attack on America) has been on the news here since day 1, minute 10 (or so).

Ryanamur - What I meant was, that I found it out of the ordinary that he did not call 911 locally. That he called a number so far away. And I also meant when I said the person in Canada who took the call might not have known yet what had happened, is because there are many people, anywhere in the world U.S included, that may not have had their TV or radios on, so may not have known what was going on, you never know.

Wasn't some dig on Canada at all. To the contrary, I look at the entire incident as a honest incidence of a human helping out a human, even if they are strangers living in different places. I have nothing but praise. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I most certainly do not think that Canada is some backwater country, behind on the news, living in igloos LOL! Maybe the way I worded my post made you think that Ryanamur? Well...

1.)> I hada thought and feeling this was true already... when I watched CNN, yesterday, they were interviewing this girl and saying that her sis's hubby was in the building, and that he called her before it crumbled down (hubby called sis' girl). ANyway, he was missing or is missing now. Moving on, he called up right? He said two things, first was that he loved them very much and all and there was anb explosion and stuff in WTC, second was he said they were NOT gonna evacutate and all... and just told her again that he loved her...sad.

2.)I dunno, but probably. Usually these kind of news aren't made up for specualtion...

3.)True or not, here is the hitch: God is ever-forgiving and all, and he will NEVER, NEVER punish us. It will be US who will destroy the world eventually, not Him. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I've heard 1 being reported by some Brits who got out

I heard 2 but that someone had phoned Philadelphia. I can only guess that the NY telephone system was overloaded. The 911 system would certainly have been so.

I haven't heard 3 but it wouldn't suprise me.

Yes to 1. I heard several interviews with people in the towers (lower floors) who recounted stories of sitting there milling around in indecision for the 18 minutes between plane attacks.

Yes to 2. Again, radio interviews with rescue personell who had been contacted by phone from seattle, saying their relative was trapped with several police and port authority people in the 2nd basement level underground of tower 1. it took over a day for the cell phone airways to clear enough for him to be able to get and hold a signal, is what they said. i do not know if those folks have been dug out or not. after 4 days, tv reports show that the mound of rubble is still pretty intact, despite what has been taken away - remember on wednesday evening, they were still digging toward the actual towers from more than a block away, that is how much rubble fell down and all around.
? to 3. I would not at all be suprised if Jerry Foulmouth said those insane things, it would certainly be in character. best thing there is to ignore him, make sure everyone you know can tell about what he said to others, so we can spread his own words among the people, thereby taking away what he craves most - an audience, ooops, i mean a PAYing audience, gotta send those checks for god, made out to jerry, doncha know. he belongs to the dustbin of history, he just don't know it yethttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Don't worry, I know that you didn't bash Canada in any way shape or form. I was just having a little episode of much needed light headed humor http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

The smilies should of given that away. But, as you said, sometime it's harder to make your point on paper (or on a screen) http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif. I don't think of American (or others) as ignorant. It's just that many have a misconception of Canada and the way we live.

It's funy sometime. On the third day of the crisis, CNN finaly clued in that Canada had over 400 flights that were destinied to the US. They interviewed our Prime Minister and the interviewer asked in a tone that was pretty much insinuating all that I said in my previous post if we were able to effectively care for poor straded Americans.

Like I said, I was just joking... I sure was insinuating anything out of it http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

BTW: the phone call to Toronto came in the second night... not the first.

That would be Jerry Falwell, Neb. He's come under CONSIDERABLE verbal fire for having said that, and I think he's backed down, but it's a little late and a dollar short, if you know what I mean. Both he and Pat Robertson have basically "cooked their geese" with their bigoted, mean-hearted statements.

I am reproducing here an editorial which appeared in my local paper, the Denton Record-Chronicle, yesterday, about such statements; this one specifically about Pat Robertson's inflammatory remarks.

American Ayatollah

The Denton Record-Chronicle
September 14, 2001
Staff Writer

In a week filled with unbelievable images and events, one of the most unbelievable of all was the sight of television evangelist Pat Robertson intimating on international television Wednesday night that Tuesday's attack on American is a divine retribution against the United States.

What Mr. Robertson seemed to be saying was that God was punishing America for not living up to His precepts, and that America was deserving of this "punishment."

We would like to think that Mr. Robertson, like so many of us this week, simply got swept away by his emotions in a moment of weakness, saying something that he did not really mean. Unfortunately, his comments are not unprecedented. It was Mr. Robertson, you may remember, who boasted a few yars ago about praying a hurricane away from his Atlantic Coast headquarters, failing, we might add, to explain why he didn't just pray it away altogether instaed of allowing to wreak death and destruction upon his fellow human beings farther up the coast.

We are not theologians here; we are mere ink-stained wretches who have had more occasion than usual this week to contemplate God's will. But to imply for even a second that the faceless cowards who sent thousands of innocent Americans to their deaths on Tuesday were doing God's work seems to us very close to blasphemy. It is the same argument that the perpetrators of this act will use if they are ever brought to book for their deeds.

God deliver us from so-called leaders who profess to know exactly what is on His mind. The madmen who masterminded the Children's Crusade in the 11th century knew exactly what God wanted them to do, and they did it, sending thousands of innocent children to their deaths. Tomas de Torquemada knew exactly what God wanted him to do in 1475, and his Inquisition lasted the better part of a hundred years. God spoke directly to John Brown, Jim Jones, David Koresh, the Ayatollah Khomeini, and the leaders of the Taliban. They all knew exactly what God wanted them to do.

So does Pat Robertson.

There has never been a greater need for prayer in this country. May we humbly suggest that when we go to our knees this week, we include a word of thanks to God for those great, good men who crafted the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, guaranteeing religious liberty to all, but also prohibiting the establishment of a state religion.

We need no Ayatollahs here.

Pretty sick indeed... If this guy is really right, I'm in the worst place possible at the moment, the Netherlands, cause we allow even more than the Americans... :uhoh:
But as I said, it's sick someone would say something like this... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

OK Ryanamur, no worries! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Glad to hear you weren't angry at me, I just wasn't sure. Anyway, all cleared up, no big deal. Actually, now kinda funny in retrospect http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I still gotta wonder about that caller though, they haven't rescued anyone today http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

JJ - Thanks for the info. Again, I still don't think that guy has been rescued, if he's in a 2nd floor basement, no way. Does anyone know how many floors down these buildings have? I have to wonder how many may have survived because they were underground. Is heartbreaking if that is the case, because there is just SO much they have to remove before even thinking of digging belowground. They are trying their best though, I have to commend all the rescue workers for their outstanding efforts, some of them even sleep on the street rather than go home, so they can get up first thing in the morning when the sun rises so that they can go again.

Sazarac - I hadn't heard about Pat Roberson, only Falwell, but sounds like they both said similar things. Outrageous is an understatement!
