Well, I'm sure this has been addressed before. After
much futile searching, I can't figgure out a way to get around this feature...is it possible? Is it supposed to happen?

Can anyone help me?

Micah Foehammer 04-06-2002 11:55 AM

(minor spoilers inside)

Garrin,

I'm no sure exactly what you me that your main character is "an enemy" - but I'll take a wild guess that you mean that townspeople are going hostile on him. If that's the case, then its likely that your reputation has fallen to a very low level. When that happens, townspeople and other will have a very low opinion of you and you won't be well received. Also, the town guards may attack on you sight.

If you have an earlier save game, check your rep and if its low, try reloading and make some substantial donations to the churches scattered about town. That will boost your rep up and avoid the problems.

Another possibility is that you have been casting magic in town and have been attacked by the cowled wizards. You can buy a "license" to cast magic at the government building.

Hi there, welcome to IronWorks.

But what exactly do you mean? Did your player character just turn hostile, or are you talking about that cutscene where he/she turns into the Slayer? That wierd-looking reddish-brown demon-like thing?

EDIT: Hmmm, talk about different interpretations of a few words... :D

Aha well,

He turns hostile and the group (if auto attack is flagged) start attacking.
What will happen is the day before 300 (or so) I'll have the party rest. When they awake, the main char is hostile. It dosen't matter where we rest. He's not turning into the Slayer...I loose control over him...he's got the little 'confused' (or dominated) icon in the picture.

It seems to me like there's a 300 day limit, and if you don't finish the game in that time, it gets finished for you ;)

I don't recall ever taking more than 300 in-game days to finish, but that seems a bit unlikely to me. He got confused just like that, you say? Out of the blue? Hmmm, I've never heard of anything like that happening, maybe it's the result of some unfinished quest or so, that has a time limit. I don't think the game itself has a time limit.

Luvian 04-06-2002 12:09 PM

There is only one way to find out. Someone should go ingame and sleep 300 days.

Garrin 04-06-2002 12:14 PM

Ok, I just went in-game and checked a few things.

Fist off, the date is 296, 6th hour.
Anytime my party rests after that, the main character goes hostile and uncontrolable. He's not the slayer, at all, just my main char. I'm trying to do some charm person or somesuch on him, but it's not working because of spell resistances ;)

The reason it took soo long was I had had a problem with obtaining the sphere for my mage. Spent alot of time resting, hoping for a certain NPC to appear. But there are not any open quests left (other than the one I'm on).
So I'm stumped.

SecretMaster 04-06-2002 12:18 PM

Quite possible that there is time limit. Maybe its class related. Or maybe not. WHo know's, but i'm stumped.

J'aran 04-06-2002 12:27 PM

Well, I'm not quite stumped. At least, not yet. :D

What you could try is: unequip all his items, cast Remove Curse, Heal, Restoration and, just for the heck of it, Dispel Magic on him before resting.

Also, you could use ShadowKeeper to see if there's anything in your .cha-file that doesn't belong there, but I can't provide you with instructions for that though, we'll need someone with a more extensive knowledge of hacking the game files for that.

Third, it could be a bug. I don't know which patch(es) you have installed, but if you don't have the latest, you could try downloading and installing that.

Status report:

I can manage to gain control of him with Domination...but only temporarily. Remove Curse, Restoration, etc do nothing to prevent the lack of control once domination runs out.

I'm leary of using a character editor, but if all else fails, I suppose I'll have to.

The patches are up to date, it was the first thing I checked. :/

IF all else fail, then you will have to import your character in a new game, or possibly an older savegame.

Morgan_Corbesant 04-06-2002 02:19 PM

are you turning into the "slayer"? if so, then it is likely that you attack your party, thus their scripts will make them attack you in return.

Dez'arath 04-07-2002 01:28 PM

It may be related to your needing to get your soul back off Irenicus. You may turn evil after 300 days - check your alignmeht - if you are evil and the parties reputation is high then the rest of the party may attack? Only an idea - not really sure though ... weird one.

Luvian 04-07-2002 01:34 PM

Yes... it must have something to do with your soul being stolen...

The.Relic 04-07-2002 02:06 PM

Wow, I have never heard of a game going on over 300 days either. Sounds like the evil overcoming your character is probably the most likey event. Also make sure you aren't equipped with any cursed items. If you are, cast a remove curse spell or go to a temple and have it removed and then get rid of the item asap. .

tom the strong wizzard 04-07-2002 02:35 PM

i never heard of it but if it would happen to me: i would kill everybody!! lol

Do i need to say more?!

marsh_viking 04-09-2002 10:44 PM

GAck!!

300 day limit????????

I have been lollygagging around trying to do every quest, see the sights, etc...I'm on day 93 and am still wrapping up chapter II and III quests.

A time limit would suXor !

Any hard confirmation on this out there?

Kikakee 04-10-2002 01:34 AM

Three thoughts:

Have you tried dominating and then leaving the area? It might reset the charictor to friendly.

Can you still look through your PC's possetions after he goes hostile?

If all else fails, leave it on and unpaused overnight to advance the game time to beyond your 300 day limit. Maybey you're PC just didn't want to sleep that night! :D

Horatio 04-10-2002 02:19 PM

I once did Shadow Keeper, set my char's hp to 1000. When I got into a tough fight, he got beaten up pretty bad, so I clicked rest til healed. He slept 576 days, and nothing happened. It must be a patch or bug, as a time limnit wood suk.
