How many of you guys cook, or rather enjoy cooking? I was the chef in my house. (Meaning I cooked a few more times per month than Vanessa, but she liked the sound of that.... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...s/rolleyes.gif ) Anyhow, I realised tonight that it's been donkeys ages since I cooked a meal.

Tonight I simply threw some herbs here into some soup (Basil, Thyme, Ginger) and it reminded me how I did actually enjoy it.

Anyone else?

I've heard it mentioned as the ultimate art, because you can live off it.

It's simple. Once the Planet is hurt, it gathers Spirit Energy to heal the injury. The amount of energy gathered depends on the size of the injury...What would happen if there was an injury that threatened the very life of the Planet? Think how much energy would be gathered! Ha, ha, ha. And at the center of that injury, wil be me. All that boundless energy will be mine. By merging with the energy of the Planet, I will be come a new life form, a new existence. Melding with the Planet, I will cease to exist as I am now. Only to be reborn as a 'God' to rule over every living soul.

Guilty here!

Emeril or the Iron Chef are constantly on here.

I must love to cook, I toted over 100 cookbooks from Florida to Michigan and back! My oldest is from 1885.

My weakness is spicy food.

If you are REALLY into cooking, you HAVE to subscribe to "Saveur" magazine!

They actually go into real people's homes from around the world and publish true authentic recipes!

Ooh yeah. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif In Sydney I ate more Asian food than western. Singapore and Italy were tastebud heaven for me.

Does Cumin affect you? I had some "Afgahni" food in Singapore (really just Indian food under an Afgahni resteraunt name) which was really heavily dosed with Cumin. My brain would buzz all night in an awakeysleep. Coriander is another fave of mine.

I love cumin in moderation. I think that it can be overpowering very easily if not used correctly. I use it all of the time in black beans and rice.

Cilantro is another of my favorites!

Wow.

Hey I read a book once that had insect recipes. Totally bizzare. (The around the world bit threw me on that tangent) Witchedy grubs in Oz, live scorpions in S/E asia, termites and grasshoppers in Africa, and beetles in the Americas amongst others. Very very odd.

I'm adventurous with food, very, but when I read "People allergic to...blah blah...and bee stings, should not eat these recipes" I breathed a sigh of relief. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/puke.gif

The Tex-Mex thing in the USA is pretty cool. I hadn't really had it that often until I got here.

I haven't heard of Cilantro...what do you use it in?

Hmmm....

very interesting.

I've heard of chocolate covered grasshoppers as a delicacy, and even tried ants on a camping excursion (I like the survival gig), but I've never heard of a cookbook including insects. (I would like to peruse the pages of that one ).

I do have a soul food cookbook with a recipe for racoon, though!

O.k. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Mid eastern is nice. I never tried cooking it though. I love the Lebanese sweets, Kebabs and....oh, Turkish Tea! (as opposed to coffee) The Turkish tea I had in Berlin was the nicest tea I've had. I've had an Armenian sweet too. (At a world fair, in Berlin again) Walnuts dipped in a hot wine concoction repeatedly, then allowed to dry. A sweet fudgelike encasement forms. Incredible.

I think that what draws me to mid east is the olives and earthy flavors. I love olives. I have a very extreme palate. I love lemons, vinegar, hot sauce, anything with an acidic base. I don't think that there is any food that I would refuse to try. At least once, after all, how do you know if you like it if you don't try it?

Good call. I like olives. Limes, Chillis, Lemongrass and Ginger are faves of mine. Lemongrass is amazing. Contributes such incredible flavour, yet ruins "the spell" if you eat it. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

You seem to know so much about tea!

I love it but I've never really had the chance to sample many varieties. So far my favorite is green tea, but I would be VERY happy to hear what you think is the best. Keep in mind that I'm in the states and I may not be able to find certain kinds.

Oooh Jasmine Tea. A sort of green tea with Jasmine in it. Smooth as silk. You need to take it black and with no sugar - although in Tokyo etc, they have it bottled cold and with added sugar http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/eek7.gif
It is very nice.

A black sweet Earl Grey is pretty nice too. The added Bergamot is a nice flavour I find.

Some Sri Lankan teas are gorgeous. Darjeelang or something. Ah! I was given some by a friend of mine from Sri Lanka. IT'S SITTING IN SYDNEY! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/smiles/wow.gif Again, black (and sweet) is the way to go.

I love to cook - always have. My mum never much enjoyed it (although she had some classic dishes which she did really well, she just hated it) and my dad could cook well but often worked long hours, so I used to cook regularly as a kid because I loved it so much. Much to my mum's relief.

I'm veggie now, have been for a few years, and I have enjoyed adapting some of my favorite recipes and trying new ones. Some people say that you're limiting your range of experience being veggie, but it is also a good challenge - still plenty of great ingredients and dishes to try! Indian dishes are some of my favorite, Turkish and Greek too. Anyone tried Baklava or Konafi? Turkish sweets are heavenly! Full of honey and nuts and flavored with rose water.

And as for tea! Being English, I am very used to drinking Indian or Sri Lankan black tea with milk (practically raised on the stuff!) which is not to everyone's taste, but I enjoy it. I also enjoy any tea without milk.

I would recommend Lapsang Soushong (sp?) if you have never tried it. A very distinctive taste - drink it black, unsweetened. My personal favorite black tea is Assam - I find Darjeeling a bit mild.
Green tea is great, especially with some fresh mint leaves added to the pot, with a little sugar or honey.
Herbal teas too! (there really is no tea I won't try). Chamomile is one of my favorites, although it is an 'acquired taste' - very strange until you get used to it, but it is very relaxing. Lime Blossom tea is good for controlling blood pressure and tastes very nice.

I can understand that. Unfortunately there are certain amino acids that you can only get from red meat. I'm down to only twice a week with it though.

It's important to have a balanced diet whatever you eat, and it sounds as though you know what you're talking about. Veggies do have to be careful in that respect, and although I had some health problems earlier in the year (turned out to be stress and exhaustion) I now have never felt better. I get ill a lot less, I am more alert, etc. It's not for everybody though. I have never tried to 'convert' anyone, and never will, it's very much a personal choice.
