For a large portion of the United States, as well as many other parts of the world, school starts this month (in fact, many are starting back this week.) For our HS and college members here, how do you feel about this? Are you excited/happy/sad/nervous/all of the above? Which classes are you looking forward to taking? Which ones are you least looking foward to attending? Are you looking forward to seeing your old friends once again, or meeting new ones?

Tell us about it here!

My classes start next Monday, for my fourth year in college (but not a senior yet...I'm grooming to become the ultimate professional student.)

I'm not really looking forward to classes starting because I have a bunch of kinda lame ones - you know, the ones you have to take for some reason but really won't be interesting. I'm going to try and drop some of these for more classes in my field of study.

Well, I guess I am probably the only one here still in junior high, except maybe Grand Ranger, and I am going into 8th grade.

I am pretty much looking forwrd to school, I think it will be a fun year, but busy of course, with applying for high school. I however am NOT looking forward to getting up at 7. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif seeing as I wole up today at 11. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Next Monday I go back to school. I'll be a senior in HS, and I am definitely *not* looking forward to it. My classes are cool. Algebra 2, AP English, Guitar,(My second year!) Physics, Drivers Ed, and two others. (I have no idea what they are as I still haven't gotten my schedule.) It's just the fact that the first few weeks of school are going to be HE*L. I've already told you guys about the sophmores who are skipping their junior year. There's definitely going to be some hostility, and I don't want to be involved!

If it's any cosolation to all of you students out there, teachers also wish summer wasn't over. I have so many things that I wanted to get done and didn't that I can't even begin thinking about what to plan for lessons. I guess I'll come up with something . . . After all, I have to assign homework by the second day http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif or I'll be a disgrace to my profession.

Lower Saxony has had school since 2 weeks already and I have formed a theory: the teachers are trying to kill us. I mean, FOUR long term homework assignments in the first week? 35 periods a week when all the other classses have 31? Good God! And everybody told me 10th grade wasnt any harder than 9th grade... *sigh* well only 3 years to go (Germany gets 13 years of school) and Id better get started on that homework for tomorrow - or is that today oops half past twelve oh well ill do it before school. THAT should tell you everything about my attitude towards school. Only good thing - it was so hot (for German standars, around 28 degrees celsius but humid)that we got free because of heat twice. HA HA HA!!! (of cours most of you dont have school yet http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif )

Wow, that's a cool spell in Texas in the Summer. We topped out today at 101 degrees (about 38 Celsius).

But you'll probably laugh when I tell you that all schools in Denton close down when we get 1/2 inch (a little over 1 cm) of snowfall! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/smiles/485.gif

You have to "apply" for high school? Are you in the U.S? When I went to high school, I didn't have much of a choice. I certainly didn't need to apply. Are they doing things differently now?

All I know is 37 C = normal body temperature = 98.6 F so 38 C would be 100.4 F (getting close to 101). For every five degrees of celsius increase, fahrenheit increases by nine degrees.

32 C would be... just under 90 F.

To convert celsius to farenheit divide by 5 multiply by nine and add 32.

Now why is it that if it's hot I can relate to Farenheit but at low temperatures I relate it to centigrade. So I know that 0 degrees centigrade is bloody cold but 38 degrees centigrade doesn't convey the temperature as would 100 farenheit.

Possibly if it's a private high school, I would think...other than that, at least here in Texas, you generally go to wherever you're zoned to attend.

Well I have been out of High school for about 1 year. I have finished my first year of collage and it was F*@king easy. It is sort of an Engineering/drafting/building design course. I have many ideas on what to do with my life, but can not decide on one. Engineering looks cool, but piloting in the Air Force looks cool as well. So does architecture. If I join the military I could have them pay me to get my engineering degree and then have the chance to learn to fly. I am leaning towards that. Right now I am on my Co-op work term form my College course. Anyway all of you in high school are lucky, you have to worry about anything. But just wait till you are in the real world. Then you can start worrying.

Aah, don't worry, RBF...the "real world" isn't that bad compared to HS. Play your cards right and it's not bad at all. I wouldn't go back to HS for love nor money. It was only after HS that I found out how cool the world really is. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Don't let others scare you off from that.

I also have to disagree with "not worrying about anything" in HS...there's peer pressure, pressure to achieve, to get top grades, to excel in sports, to be popular, romantic attractions, not to mention threats like school violence, drugs in schools, etc. The best thing to do is make sure you have a good support group of friends. It's hard doing it alone.

To be honest, that was the hottest day of the year so far. The public pools had a field day (i went home and played BG http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ). And to the snow I can only say: Snow? Whats snow? All we get here is slush... Of course thats exxagerating, we actually had a WHITE CHRISTMAS last year YAY and some more snow during school (very fun: 1cm of snow. I go to school, half the students arent there because the buses got stuck, they came in later in the morning. Germany doesnt have snow days because snow is so rare http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif )

By the way... i meant to bump this for all the school kids (like me) who need to whine a bit but i got a little sidetracked so dont kill me cause im a little off the subject.

Well I just received a sad reminder of what a total screw up I used to be!
My G.E.D. test scores to enroll in college on Monday.
I passed with a "C" average LOL and I distinctly remember why...going to night school with my uncle, stoned out of my gourd, and getting distracted by his love of our teacher who had big breasts and wore low cut dresses.
I never laughed so hard for so long in any other type of school setting, I swear, we are both lucky that we made the passing grades! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no.../hollering.gif
Before I quit school, I was in the top 5 percentile nationwide and made the honor roll regularly.
Kids, "Just Say No" really means something! Take that to heart! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Well, wish me luck! It has been 15 years since I have gone to school (tech school) and this time I have goals that when I attain them, won't hold me back by keeping me in school for the rest of my life to keep up with progress!

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

P.S. Am I scared? You better believe it! But I have a lot of confidence in myself and so do the people around me. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif I am really looking forward to going!

Sorry for you - 7 that must be tough
I remember that bit about the pledge (i used to live in the US). I always crossed my fingers http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif . And about seeing the sun - we live relatively far north here - in the summer the sun rises at, oh, something like five oclock in the morning (im never up to see it all I know is that when I get up at 6, its risen) and it gets dark at 10. However, in the winter its dark for the first couple of periods and once, when i was biking home from school at around 4 (afternoon lessons - i hate them) the sun was setting. Takes getting used to. However, those of you who live in northern Scandinavia will laugh at my pitiful account - i was in southern Sweden this summer, the sun set at ELEVEN OCLOCK

bumping, same reason as above (ill continue this till the middle of september or until someone tells me to stop)

SSJ4Sephiroth 08-23-2001 04:40 PM

ok, i have to get to school by 8:00, but since my bro takes me most days i have to wakt up tat 6:45 so hes not late for marching practice. i stay there from about 7:30-3:00, with only 5 minutes between classes and about a 30 minute lunch. classes are 50 minutes each, and we go about a total of a couple of days over the government-required amount. so i have about 190 days, when the actual min is 180, and i dont have nearly enough sleep cuz i hafta go to sleep at 10:45 to get the full 8 hours, like THATS ever gonna happen!

Man our school better be glad we don't get out early for heat. We'd be home early everyday! You're lucky Kaz. No when it floods there's a different story. Nobody likes walking around in highwater. That rarely happens though, and we don't have to make up those days either!

Probably the reason. If it was hot more often, we'd probably have to go to school even so. But, as I said, hottest day of the year so far (heck this is the longest hot period we've had this year so itll probably start raining soon - AH the German weather which is basically the British weather sent southeast when the English are done with it). Don't be so hasty. In the UK things are a little different. For the most part, we're all still on holiday here and have been for quite a while. Our Secondary School (that's High School in America I think) starts again in early September. However, that's not where I'm going.

I actually finished my last year of Secondary School in 2000 and have been working as a civil servant for the past year, to pay for what comes next.

On September 22nd I will be moving to Wales and starting University (college in America) where I will be studying a Drama degree. To be honest, I'm nervous as hell. I leave all my old friends behind me, as nobody I know is attending the same place. It will be a very strange experience, but one that I most certainly look forward to, especially after a year working.

Anyways - good luck to all who've posted here. I wish you well in your studies! Work hard, but play hard too! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

So I will go on happily bumping threads around... gods I could almost claim the rank of bumper http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

EDIT: By the way, awful news for all Lower Saxony students: School starts on the 27th of July next year (aw god) and you don't get heat free after 10th grade (please no)

Most definatley! Forums like this have kept me sane over the past year (I have 'need to get outta this town' syndrome). It's good to just sit back and read some of this stuff. I can spend days trudging through a forum's archives. There are some real gems back there, esp in the game related forums like BG 1&2.

So you're still up Kaz? Heh, make sure you get plenty of sleep on Sunday. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Going to school tired is not a good practice.
