How many of you listen to music while driving? Just about everybody, right? BUT, while you're listening to music, does it make you drive more aggressive? Does music in some sort of way resemble a sort of driving inhibition deadener (d.i.d.)? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Do you feel the need to speed while listening to (insert music here)?

I'm surprised no one has answered this!
Yes, I listen to music when I drive, some of the time. If it's a really long trip, I may take one of my tapes along. There are a couple of radio stations that I listen to that I know are good. The only time I find it antagonizing are when A) the lame-o commercials come on that seem geared at an IQ of 85 and/or B) the jerky DJ's air their inane comments and then laugh at their own "cleverness." I either tune to another station when that happens, or turn off the squawk box altogether and enjoy the silence for awhile. AFAIK, listening to music has not affected my driving one iota. It's an interesting question you raise, though. I wonder how many people it actually does. Me, I'm more worried about those with cell phones hanging out their ears. Cheers, http://www.wizardrealm.com/images/saz.gif |
heh...I don't have a driver's license, but when my sister and I go to my father (who just leased a new car with cd player http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif) we always sing together, sometimes a capella but mostly we just sing along with the huge pile of cds we've brought...I never noticed if it made dad drive more aggressively though http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif

Yes, music definitely does affect my driving sometimes. Hard Rock with its screaming guitars, pounding drums and vocal shouting have a way of getting me going, I find my foot slowly getting heavier and heavier LOL. Same works the other way round, as when I listen to calmer music, I find myself in not as much of a hurry to get where I am going to.

Welcome Man of Rohan. Nice to have you here.
I usually don't listen to music while driving, but when I do, I don't think I drive any more or less aggressive. Actually, never noticed if there was a difference. ------------------ http://members.aol.com/lasttrueprinc...ages/ladya.gif |
Listening to music while driving is a must for me. If I'm listening to something like Rage Against the Machine or Jimi or something it usually makes me drive much faster! But when I'm listening to something mellow like Radiohead or maybe some Aphex Twin or something I just about pass out at the wheel.
hmmm...which is worse? ------------------ trux |
Don't know if anyone else does this.I often record movies to cassette tape and listen to them on long drives.

Interesting question. I drive a lot for my job, all over north central Minnesota. I love having my music along, or a good book on tape. However, do they affect my driving? It's hard to say ... since I already have a tendency to like to speed. When I purchased my car it had to have cruise control so I can set it and not worry about my lead foot. We all know how the police in those little tiny towns love to increase city revenue by ticketing speeders!!!
So my answer is ... errrr... maybe? http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/eek7.gif Welcome to Ironworks Man of Rohan!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/xyxwave.gif ------------------ http://www.paulbunyan.net/mnssc/bilqisd.gif Having abandoned my search for truth, I am now looking for a good fantasy. Hello and Welcome Man of Rohan! I'll admit thatt listening to fast music influenced the speed at which I maintained when I was younger but now, living in newer surroundings where drivers are not as nice as where I came from, I tend to keep the radio tuned in to classical stations to help me maintain some calm while trying to deal with too many a$$holes behind the wheel while I try to maintain the speed limit. Out on the open road though, classical, rock, or total silence, I'll go as fast as the car and roads allow me to because I have confidence in my many years behind the wheel with no accidents. Not to say that one will never happen...I have had a blow out at 60 mph that threw my truck into oncoming traffic (a semi truck) on a two lane highway in BFE, Indiana...so close that I closed my eyes while I turned back into my lane, thinking I was toast. There's always that one millisecond when no matter how fast or slow you are going, there is not going to be a derned thing you can do to stop it. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Moni ------------------ http://members.aol.com/lasttrueprincess/images/ltp4.gif |
Thanks guys for all the great responses! Kinda took a gamble on this thread, but I suppose I should stop being silent (I suppose you call guys like me lurkers LMAO). As for myself, I definitely feel less inhibited while listening to heavy or fast music, and slower (read: calmer) while listening to classical. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Same thing as ladyzekke. Thanks for the welcome cloudy!
