First, a moment of your time. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I know I am still a newbie on these boards. For that reason, many of you may not give much weight to my opinions or ideas. That's fine. I know I can be a jerk, and hard to handle. So, I'd like to extend a formal apology to any who I have offended in any way, shape, or form. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

That said, I'd like to invite you to share the reasons you LOVE this board. Was it a post you read, or a story you heard? Do you love the people, or just come for gaming info? Did a friend invite you, or did you stumble in here on your own? Hugs and kisses anre welcome, but must be shared with everyone. This is not a popularity contest. ('Sides, we all know you love ME http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif )

Note: this thread is not for discussion of the pros and cons. It is not for airing out negatives. I will ask mods to remove NEGATIVE posts ... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no.../angryfire.gif

NOW... tell us...

I like IronWorks because you all have helped me keep my sanity over the last month... you were here when I wasn't ready to talk to friends who were near and were a wonderful distraction from my troubles. For that, I salute all of you.

For me, what got me here was needing help with my Wizards & Warriors game.
What kept me here was the variety of absolutely good people all in one place!
The conversation, the jokes, the mere funny comments that are made reeally brighten the time I get to sit down during the course of my days.

I love Ironworks because it is Ironworks...unlike any other place in cyber-space and I feel priveledged to be here.

Rudy, if I owe you any apologies, please accept them here as they are offered to you in peace, harmony, and love. Without Ironworks, I would probably never have known you and my life has been blessed by your presence here.

Sincerly,
Monique

I have an illness that keeps me stuck at home, makes me sleep wierd hours and above all gives me severe pain almost every day. This board gives me somewhere I can have fun, even when my brain isn't all that focussed, and somewhere were the people are welcoming, friendly and nonjudgemental. And I met you here Rude Dawg! (And no - we are not having a torrid cyber affair!)

I use a lot of other boards as well as I am a keen gamer, but this place is unique.

Oh, and this is very, very important I DON'T FEEL OLD HERE http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I came to this forum to find fellow Icewind Dale players to discuss the game with. At that time, I was invited to also check out the GD forum.

Well, I did check out the GD forum, and haven't been able to get into a game of IWD since. I spend all my time checking out my friends posts, and posting to those that I feel I can contribute to, be it with a helpful post, or a humorous one.

I have made friends on this board that I am comfortable with, and look forward to meeting more of the people who I have only met through their posts.

Ironworks forum is my new online community, and I will only give it up if forced to, and with regret!

Lord Shield gives kiwidoc a big cuddle. Hope you get better, lass. You too, Melusine.
.
I don't think I could pin it down to one thing. I have found that none of the members here climb on top of their high horse and rant if somebody starts a racy topic. For instance, we had "15 drawbacks to being a man". I posted about 15 for women to balance, and there was NO flaming/whingeing, etc.
.
On another board (Mithril Hall I think) the same thread had two women claiming that the original poster either hated women or was gay. Pathetic!!
.
Besides, where else could we spam as shamelessly as we do (oops! did I say spam - i meant, erm, oops - sound of Lord Shield's feet running into the distance)

Well, I've had more intelligent discussions/talks with people on this board than in real life, and also, if you make some ridiculous rant, people just say LOL, or ROFL, or ROFLMAO, and uses lots of smilies, outside of this board, people would make fun of you for the next six years of your life.

Thanks LS, you're a sweetie http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I love the Ironworks because I have been visiting here for a long time and I have never seen a single other gaming forum that has the same friendly and close-knit atmosphere that we have. It is exceptional in the way new people are so warmly welcomed, and the veterans are a group of friends that will be there for eachother every time. It is also the only place on the net where I have laughed so hard that it hurt for thousands of times, and the creativity of the members is so great! We have a bunch of incredible moderators, lead by Ziroc who is just incomparable, and they impress me time and time again for the mature way in which they handle problems.
And yes, the fact that I am ill is also a reason why the Ironworks is such a great place to be; when I am in too much pain or too exhausted to go out and do something like see a friend, I know that I'll find friends here. The support given to people who are in a difficult spot in their lives is immense and I admire all of you for being so generous!

RudeDawg, you a newbie. I hardly think so. Seems like you've always been around. We love you.

I like Ironworks because: I have met some of the nicest people on this Board and everyone seems to be considerate of other's opinions on the variety of subjects we discuss here. I also think it's a learning process for me as I find this group so very diverse and not a day goes by, that I don't learn something about someone living in another area or another country and I find this very fascinating. Plus, there is no other board like this anywhere.

I actually stumbled upon Ironworks one day after I started playing my first D&D game, Baldurs Gate 2. The BG2 forum was so very helpful, I was truly amazed at how fast I was able to get help for whatever problem I was encountering. I had never really checked out the other forums on Ironworks and one day, someone invited me to join the general discussion forum. I stopped by and haven't left.

I'm a BBS and UseNet veteran, so I am used to seeing flamers and trolls. I took it for granted that that was the "norm" lately, since most people have forgotten about "Netiquette".

I was a "survivor" of a flame war, and watched the board go down in flames. I had heard IronWorks mentioned in passing, and seen a link on the UseNet. So I visited. I lurked for 2 days, and was IMPRESSED with what I saw. But, the best came when I joined, and posted.

After answering a question in a thread, I posted a "Hello, I'm a newbie" thread, and mentioned that I was a BGD vet, and would be glad to answer any question I could about the game and tech issues. And Memnoch answered.

He said: "Damn shame what happened over there. It won't happen here. Welcome."
A MODERATOR welcoming a newbie! I was shocked! Now, let me explain: I've been a cyber-junkie since it was all email, UseNet, and IRC. I have NEVER seen a mod talk to a newbie on his board. NEVER. Soon, Big Z also said "hello". and I was hooked.

2 Weeks later, the board went down. I checked daily, even posted a querry on the UseNet. Soon, I was answered. I logged in happily, and in less than an hour I got a "We're back!" email from Memnoch. I replied and told him and Z that I was REALLY impressed with the atttention they gave the board. They shrugged it off.

Now, I log on first thing in the morning, drink my coffe and read and post. Head to work, and log on. Come home, and log on. I'm home, friends.

I've made some great frinds, who I chat with daily, and I love everyone here! I even miss y'all when I'm away!

Let me tell you. IronWorks is an example of what an on-line community can be. Most aren't. Thank You, Ziroc and his band of Merry-Mods. Thank You, Thank You for this wonderful, happy, place.

I agree, this site's the best!

my story: I discovered Ironworks in the browser search when looking for tips for Wizards & Warriors PC game (was having trouble with it). couple days later, I decided to ask a few questions in the W&W forum! Then someone (either Moni, Black Knight, or Saz) lured me over to GD forum!

Wow...Rude Dawg... you have been around a lot longer than me.

But then I come from different boards. I always went for the philosphy and women group type boards... I didn't get into gaming until my hubby introduced me to Diablo/Hellfire... from there to RPGs... gads....

That led me to here... and you guys... never had bad experiences with boards either... but it may be the company I keep http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I do know this is an exceptionally diverse group and it really is amazing that what really "glues" us together is our compassion and caring about the people here. That is a special thing. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Hmmm...not much I can add to the already excellent posts up here, but I'd say one of Ironworks' strong points is that it's very much like an online family. Yes, we may disagree from time to time, or have little quirks that get on each other's nerves, but let anyone from outside start picking on one of our members and BAM! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif They don't stay around for long!

I felt that sense of solidarity last night during that killer storm. When I got back online, I was overwhelmed with the amount of concern and support that had poured out. At the time, I was so terrified, I hardly knew what I was posting, just that it was important that I get a message out to someone.

Yes, we do care about and support each other while we're online. Maybe we learn and grow as well...that makes it doubly positive.

And, IMO, it doesn't matter a jot whether you're an "ancient" or a "newbie." It's what you've contributed to Ironworks during your tenure that makes one stand out, as far as I'm concerned. Others may disagree with me here, but that's my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it.

Cheers,

Sweet Melusinchen, I am extremely glad to see more of you here these days than in the time before I had to take my forced board hiatus ! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Hope to get to talk more to you soon and that everything is fine with you. Übrigens, fühlst Du Dich schon wieder gut genug, um ein wenig auf deutsch zu parlieren ? Well, that is exactly the very reason I like this forum, there are simply a couple of people here I have grown extremely fond of over the last months. Some of them understand and even fake convincingly to appreciate my twisted sense of humour, something that rarely happens, but if it does, I am won over in no time. Yes, I know, a fairly narcissistic concept of making friends. I am generally a slow person when it comes to growing comfortably with people and making friends and will mostly only do it one by one as well as one on one, but once I have passed that threshold and decided to like someone, my affection is usually intense and enduring.

For that reason, I am now, after returning from a month-long break away from the board, having a little problem getting into my comfort zone again, as there are lots of new members and as some members, that were rather newbies at the time I had left, have developed into regulars in the meantime - to anybody but me that is ! Well, time should take care of that "problem". So, I am hoping to get to know as many of you as possible more closely soon ! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Hey, folks, just chiming in. It's been 72 hours since my last post ... and I'm ... a spamaholic...http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Anyways, I realized that I've been apart of this community for 6 months now. Six months! A lot of people have been here long, many more have come after me, and the one thing that almost everyone has giving is Respect, and almost no one tolerates it when it is not given. Many of you don't agree with me on many topics, but that has never stopped you from greeting me with respect before politely telling me I'm wrong. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif I've seen many strong relationships grow over the last couple of months. I've seen people's posting numbers explode **cough** I've seen people shy away from posting, just because they were afraid of stepping on toes and didn't want people to get hurt. Most posts are well thought out, and checked to make sure it won't affend, and on those occasions when things are said out of anger or from an unique perspective, they are accepted, and the board moves on.

I seen support asked for and given without a thought, and at levels that make me sad that I don't do for my family what they are doing for people they have never met. We all have faults, no one is perfect. It's the fact that they are all accepted, that everyone has a place. That is what makes this special.

I am sad. I am not able to post as much, due to job change and work load shift. This is not a good-bye, just a reason (for those who care) of why I'm not here as much. You all have become a regular part of my life, and I don't like getting to spend time with you. This is my Ether-home, and I haven't gotten to spend much time here. AND when ToB comes out, I will have even LESS time to post. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Soon, my friends, soon. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Anyways, I came here by luck of the search engine. I was looking for hints on BGII, accidently clicked on the forum page, then lurked for a week until Moiraine had here accident and about twenty people within the five minutes posted asking if she was ok, if her son was ok, and said they knew something was up, she doesn't usually miss three days in a row, etc. That is why I joined. It was in the Lad's wish Moiraine Well thread that I first posted, and 3000 posts later (including old board stuff) here we are. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Thanks for all the fun, and I can't wait for the next adventure to start here.

I can feel for you RudeDawg, I really can. But isn't that exactly the way they are always treating us ? First, they makes us believe that we really matter to them, then they play with us and once they have lost interest, they drop us like nutting .... Now I feel like crying myself ...

Warst Du eigentlich schon 'mal in Ostdeutschland ?

I came to Ironworks for help and a walkthrough in Icewind Dale. Didn't check out the forums for a while and when I did it was to lurk. That didn't last long and I think the first thread I posted to was about the pc, Anomen. Ladyzekke was the first to address, me I believe. And that encouraged me to post a few more times.

I stayed because Choc forced me to. He sent a letter, smeared with Fancy Feast, that said if I dared leave he'd make me regret it. He told me he'd express mail me all his used toys. *shudder* Ugh! I had nightmarish visions of mounds of half chewed, catspit covered plush mice appearing in my living room! It was HORRIBLE! So here I am, still on the forums trying not to think of catnip covered cat toys filling my house! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Ahem, ok, ok! I stayed because I felt welcome. I stayed because some good people talked to me, helped with my game, conversed on a basic (yes, SPAM!) level and I felt part of the community. It was common to see posts asking how one was doing after a bad week at the office or if so-and-so finished his 2nd chapter quests since he'd been busy with a new puppy. When Armisael, BK and Memsy all started posting to me, I found myself actively participating in more of the threads in the forum. Soon I was a regular contributor.

I knew I was "home" the day Z posted to me that I should keep spamming! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif No question but I love the Ironworks! Ziroc has done a wonderful job putting the whole site together and I'm especially fond of the forums. Of course we all know that GD is my fav of those but I'm branching out. I was right here testing the new board as soon as Z opened it to the members! I thought our fearless, tireless Webmaster Supremo was going to chuck me out on my ear, I asked so many questions and made so many suggestions!! But instead, imagine my surprise when a missing smiley was replaced and he named it for me! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...s/EEhearts.gif

In the last 6 months I've met lots of interesting people from all over the globe, made new friends, had fascinating discussions, exchanged ideas, learned tips on playing my games and found out more about myself. I am seeing some positive effects from us all Welcoming new members lately and that makes me feel purrrrty darn good! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Yes, this has been a very special place for me and I plan to stick around for a while!
