You Know You're In Texas In The Summer When...

*You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water."

*You can say 110 degrees without fainting."

*You eat hot chilies to cool your mouth off."

*You can make instant sun tea."

*You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron."

*The temperature drops below 95, you feel a bit chilly."

*You discover that in July, it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car."

*You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window."

*You notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance."

*Hot water now comes out of both taps."

*It's noon in July, kids are on summer vacation, and not one person is out on the streets."

*You actually burn your hand opening the car door."

*You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m. before work."

*No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car or not having air conditioning."

*Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

*You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

That is stuff I remember a little too well... folks in AZ can relate... I still remember camping in Lake Pleasant in Arizona - the temperature never got below 115 degrees (except at night) and it was an interesting learning experience! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/wow.gif

I hope they send me South for the winter!! I would rather face the ice down there than the snow up here!! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...s/biglaugh.gif

Defender for the Light -
Goodness knows there is a lot of Dark out there!! - Where are my matches?!?
Wandering Soul - Finding my life's calling is Bodhisattva
Looking for lost brain - I left it only for a moment....and there it goes... rolling under the table!!
Noticing that the Light has gotten further down a Dark Tunnel than expected... Time to get the Lantern... Knowing sooner or later - I will get to the End of this Tunnel to the Open Air once again...

Try mixing the heat with humidity.
My friends, you haven't lived until you've done that...especially in August when the winds no longer reside in Texas and the air is as still as a dead armadillo on the side of the road.

Davros 06-10-2001 03:42 AM

Geeeee RudeDawg,

Texas in July sounds exactly like West Australia in January (except that the cars are smaller here, and on the right side of the road (ie and that right / correct side would be the left http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif ). Everyone turns up to work earlier and earlier to get the car parks that get the afternoon shade. Two finger driving is taught to all learner drivers http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif.

In central TX it would not rain a drop for months and still reach 90% or more humidity while holding over 100 degrees. It's no fun. No fun at all.
