OK im seriously starting to get pissed...the new version of shadow keeper doesnt work on this comp, but the old one does....ok....then the patches wont install, heres the exact message: The contents of this file could not be unpacked. The executable you are attempting has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again...i didnt even know files had integrity...
It did the same with the Java runtime thingy i need to run the Infinity Engine. So can someone tell me what the hell my computer is missing that makes it do that?Thx

Daniel 03-26-2002 08:18 PM

have you tried to download it again? Somthing might have gone wrong in the download, its happened to me plenty of times

Luvian 03-26-2002 08:21 PM

Lady Blue03 03-26-2002 08:23 PM

She is using Win 98

Then there is a problem somewhere... win 98 should not be doing this.

I suggest you reinstall windows.

Try putting your windows cd in your cd drive and restarting your computer. It should then ask if you ant to go to windows or start from the cd.

*scratches head* As it turns out, i am the one who put that computer together(as in plugging things in and the like...i wish i could build one!)and installed windows...i'll haf to do it l8a because my auntie is on the CPU right now(im using the pos HP in my room). Its sad that the patch worked on this cpu, so it must b somthing i forgot to put in blah.

Glorfindel 03-29-2002 12:25 AM

Id just like to add that I hate my computer 2 ;)

Stile, The Blue Adept 03-29-2002 12:38 AM

I hate my computer too, It's a Compaq Presario, I lovingly term it, the Comcrap Prettysorry O. It runs slower than it's clocked at, the ram is faulty. it's got more programming bugs in the OS than AOL has, because ComPaQ just HAD to have a modified OS and BIOS. Well, it's gonna realize it's a POS and commit suicide from the 3rd story of my dorm building as soon as I buy it's replacement

Animal 03-29-2002 12:39 AM

It's been a while since I've run 98, but it sounds like a hardware issue (your sound doesn't work) It would be helpful to know your exact configuration. The error message you received when trying to unpack the zip is consistant with a bad archive. Download again and use Winace to unzip it. Try using System File Checker under MSCONFIG. That'll tell you if you have any missing or corrupt system files. If none of that works, well......NUKE AND PAVE! Good luck

I don't mean top insult you, but you said you put it together. Some hardware just doesn't play nice with others, especially sound cards as they are notorious resource hogs. The error message you rec'vd when trying to unpack gatekeeper is consistant with a bad archive, ie: a bad download. Erase all traces of the original download and try it again from a different source. If your using dial up don't do anything while it's downloading; leave it be and try again

Animal 03-29-2002 01:02 AM

I forgot to mention under the run command type msconfig. look for system file checker under that menu and run it. It'll check all the dll's and correct any errors you may have

Glorfindel 03-29-2002 01:04 AM

pulling out some of his hair glorfindel looks over at Lady Blue Ur right.. this cant b good.... mayb it has somethin to do with having annoying computers

Stile, The Blue Adept 03-29-2002 01:10 AM

I'm glad I don't have enough hair to get a good hold of(thanks to the military), because I'd be pulling the whole lot of them out ;)

Thou dost jest so freely? Mayhap i shall feed thee to the demons!

Stile, The Blue Adept 03-29-2002 01:32 AM

wouldst thou so non-chalantly force me to waste mine magics over a quarrel of a techno-thing milady? I assure you, no demon would be as terrible as mine wrath, were you to put me in that position
