The Magnificent Seven is fianlly being released on DVD... May 8th... I've been waiting 3 years for this, ever since I got my DVD player. This movie is the only reason I own a VHS machine... I'm getting close to my goal of having all the Kurosawa films and the Western remakes... This one is weird, I bought Seven Samurai in 1999, and they are just now releasing the western... ah well... Just wanted to tell someone that I was excited... my girlfriend already went home... I'm all alone http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/eek.gif ------------------ http://publish.hometown.aol.com/tobb...s/rudedawg.jpg The RudeDawg Known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes |

Looks great, i haven´t seen a good western since Clint Eastwood stoped playing in them. (The good, the bad and the ugly was one of the best movies i´ve ever seen)

BTW, I need some advice, how old would you think a kid must be to watch this kind of Westerns ? My kid will be 10 in 2 months, and all the westerns he has seen so far are the 'Trinita' series (I know, I know, I should have put quotes around 'Western' speaking of Trinita ! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/485.gif ) ------------------ http://fc1ddq.free.fr/stan2.gif The world is my oyster ! I started watching westerns when i whas about twelf but since most aren´t really bloody or scary i think 10 is o.k (depends on the movie).

Most of the Westerns I've seen are "old" films so don't have the gore of modern films. I mean people get shot and clasp their wound and fall down, but there is never a hole in their shirt! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Oh, I don't think that the problem is for these movies to be bloody or scary, but I am afraid that a kid would get bored at the long long scenes of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" or other Sergio Leone movies, because he would not be mature enough to see that the lengths are ironic, so if he was to watch these Westerns too young, he would never want to see them again when older.
Hence my question : How old should a kid be to fully appreciate these particular Western movies without getting bored ? Do you think 12 is OK, or should I wait a bit longer ? ------------------ http://fc1ddq.free.fr/stan2.gif The world is my oyster ! |
Moiraine, I think it depemds on your son, but I don't think I would have made the most of such films if I saw them before 16/17. Actually a lot of these classics I have only seen in the last 3 years, so I don't know really what to recommend, but I would say wait.

Eight years ago, I house- & child-sat for my friends. Doug (age ten, at the time) invited over a good friend of his, the same age. They were talking about how tough this movie was, & that movie was, and how they were as cool as the heros from the movies.
I realized, these kids had NEVER seen a real, harsh movie... The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly The rest of the weekend, they wore blankets as serapes, whistling the tune... We rented the rest of the "Unknown Hero" movies... BTW, Moiraine, have you seen the final scene in widescreen format? As you mentioned, it has all three facing off in a circular cemetary. In the full screen version, seen on TV, you only see one man at a time... Widescreeen, you see them all... Very powerful. ------------------ http://publish.hometown.aol.com/tobb...s/rudedawg.jpg The RudeDawg Known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes |
He ... no. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif Old westerns can't be seen in cinemas anymore ! And even if they were, as French cinemas almost always show dubbed movies ... Baaah ! I hate dubbed movies, most of the time the voices are just awful (except for Sylvester Stallone and Bugs Bunny http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif ).
So you think my kid would enjoy "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" ? ------------------ http://fc1ddq.free.fr/stan2.gif The world is my oyster ! [This message has been edited by Moiraine (edited 04-30-2001).] |
Remember, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was originall shot in Italian, so I've only seen it dubbed.
I think anyone would enjoy that movie... ------------------ http://publish.hometown.aol.com/tobb...s/rudedawg.jpg The RudeDawg Known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes |
No prob' for Italian voices http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif , if it is subtitled - besides, Italian is a Latin language as is French, so I can understand a good part when people speak Italian (standard Italian, that is, not local dialects ... )
Then I think I will give a try to watch the movie with my kiddie - but I will stop immediately if he starts to get bored ! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif ------------------ http://fc1ddq.free.fr/stan2.gif The world is my oyster ! I have that movie on VHS but I haven't seen it. I have had it for about 2 months. Gosh, maybe I should watch it tonight.
My boys are 6yrs and 4yrs and I let them watch some Western movies. Mostly John Wayne movies, my husband loves those movies. I love North to Alaska. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ------------------ http://publish.hometown.aol.com/tobb...ages/mista.jpg Draconia, Dragon Queen |
