Following up a topic raised on the Baldur's Gate 2 Forum: How many of you gamers are Female? And what age group are you in? Some of us on the BGII Forum believe there are far more female gamers than the game creators believe!

For myself, I am Female, aged 64, and have been playing computer games for 6-7 years.

How about you? http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Hello F (you said I could call you that right? http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif)
We have had some of these threads before, Moiraine will be happy to find this one, so thanks for starting it! She emancipated the board http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif when some chauvinist pig http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif made a topic called sth like: "what is your favorite NPC (femal of course)"
Of course? OF COURSE????? Anyway I have been on the Forum from August last year and became a member in October. I am 20 years old, will be 21 in a month, and am a student of English literature. I am currently working part time in a clothes store and have put the study on hold because of M.E. (chronic fatigue) but I hope to resume it next year (if you wonder why I can't do the study but CAN do the job.....I can't but I still need to make moneyhttp://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif )
Nice that you enjoy gaming so much! What I really love about this forum is the diversity with regard to its members' ages, occupations, locations, gender, character etc.

Yep! F is fine!
I graduated from University at age 60! I did English Language and Literature, grat fun! Most students were MUCH younger than me, obviously, but they were great! Only met one who was rude because of my age.
I'm sorry you have M.E.. Must be pretty devastating. I understand about having to work and not having enough energy to study as well. I hope you get back to it soon! Uni is too much fun to miss out on! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Last time I checked I was female (whew!). Age 35 here. I have noticed that with the males the age ranges here on this board are from 13 to 50-something. But us female rpgers seem to be on the older side. Melusine I think is our youngest. No teenagers at all. Go figure?! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

Hi F,
Doing my duty & checking in to stand up & be counted!!

I'm 30 and have been playing computer games since getting a Sinclair Spectrum in the early '80s. Thank goodness technology has moved on a bit since then, because there was nothing quite as disheartening as playing a cassette to the computer for half an hour then the game failing to load (and yes, I mean a cassette with a computer game on, not Tom Jones' Greatest Hits). Those of you too young to remember that particular technological frustration can consider yourselves lucky - I started biting my nails at around the same time!!!

Hi Fljotsdale. I am female, will be 27 soon, and I started with BG. I bought it and now I am hooked. I have only had my computer for 2 1/2 yrs so I haven't been playing for very long. And I am a stay at home mommy.

PreciousGollum 04-03-2001 08:42 PM

I'm male (25),but my partner was the one who actually got me into PnP roleplaying, she was the dungeon mistress (no sniggering),for a goup of four other females who used to get together every sunday. She eventually roped (I said NO SNIGGERING) me into playing one day and I have been on the receiving end of much good natured ribbing by the devilish ladies ever scince.

Fljotsdale,

Hello! Checking in and uh don't worry, I'll pack LoA off with me when I leave and maybe you could get someone to clean up that drool-puddle he's making http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-.../1orglaugh.gif

I'm 40, female, have a BA and MA in Russian (lang/lit) and work as a Secretary/admin assistant at a university. I have finished IWD and am puttering in 2 BG2 games, one single and one multi-player. I've been around as a member since January.

Melusine's right, there are several threads out there on who we are, our gender and ages, etc. This is nice to do every now and then to let new folk know who we all are and tell us about themselves! I remember there weren't all that many of us back in January! Nice to meet you!

I'm a 24-year-old woman who plays Wizards & Warriors. I used to play some of the old Wizardry games. Before that, I played games on the incredibly old Intelevision. (Did any of you ever have one of those?)
I have degrees in philosophy and religion and am currently working in a customs brokerage firm. Playing these games gives me a way to take out some of my frustrations! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif
By the way...do any of you ever meet guys who are just taken aback by the fact that you are a female gamer? I have several male friends that just think I'm the coolest because I play Magic the Gathering, play rpg's (pen and paper as well as on the computer), and love sci-fi/fantasy books and movies.

Hey CyberPixie!

Great nickname! Yes I play and talk about computer games mostly with male friends (several of whom are married to friends of mine and I 'borrow' them to play). Hello Cloudbringer and thank you for the warm welcome to this side of the Ironworks Forums! I posted a thread as promised and see that CyberPixie has graced this post with her presence as well! Thanks CyberPixie!

CyberPixie, I too get alot of respect from male gamers that I know for having played Magic The Gathering in Tournaments as well as being a fan of Wizardry (since Wiz 1) and the Might and Magic series.
Looking forward to expanding my experiences in the gaming world ; ) esp. since my roomate has games that date from the 1980's to games just released. The choices are vast and a decision has been hard to make. Currently playing a slow-going second round of W&W and trying out "Soulbringer" in between all the yard work and gardening projects that I am commited to completeing this spring.

Here I am... another one from the Wizards and Warriors forum...standing up (well, sitting really!) to be counted! I am 42, and between my husband and son and myself, we have 5 computer of various 'flavors'. (Not counting PS2, Sega, Nintendo 64, etc.) I am the 'network administrator', as they call me, because when the computers 'malfunction' they hollar for me to fix 'em! We seriously have more games than can be counted, and have honestly considered wallpapering with game boxes! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

IdiotRogue 04-03-2001 11:35 PM

Not to portray myself as a sensitive, nurturing, supportive male (one ex-wife, one ex-fiance and numerous ex-girlfriends would put the lie to that), I would be honestly surprised if there is not a significant population of female RPG gamers.

I got into these because I am a HUGE Tolkien fan. In high school and college/university, most of the other avid Tolkien readers I met were women. I just figured this is a natural extension.

Sorry to intrude upon "the Sisterhood." Perhaps I should collect my "drunken" associate and depart. LOL

Female?? You betcha! I'm 29 years old and have been playing RPGs ever since I first set my eyes on Rogue back in... back in... gads I don't remember that far back. I love RPGs, especially the first person types and those that don't require fast reflexes because I don't have the best eyesight. I like games to be in depth, with fun story lines. The longer it takes you, the better! (so long as there are wonderful boards like Ironworks for tips!)

I also like fantasy books and movies, and some sci-fi books and movies, though I find much of these genres try to take themselves a wee bit too seriously. I love a good lampoon!

I bet there a lot of RPG playing women out there, and even more would enjoy playing if they thought to give it a chance. Forget the stereotypes - grab a sword and get adventuring!!!

MDK2 came free with my new sound card, to be fair its "OK" in my opinion, didn't grab me and say "play me". I have two PCs now for multiplayer, all I now need is a second person, putting the cart before horse really.

on a related note:

Moni

Nice to meet you Moni! And CyberPixie and anyone else new to GD that I missed after Moni's post! (haven't finished reading this thread yet http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif )

I just wanted to say - I liked "Soulbringer". It had it's faults, but it was quite entertaining. Nice to know someone else bought a copy.

Until I found this forum, I thought I was the only woman anywhere who loved computers and played Computer Games. (well, I knew there had to be someone else who played, I'm not that unique or vain http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif ) This place has been a very good thing for me (Thank you Ziroc http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/cheer.gif ). And I'm glad Fljotsdale thought to start this thread.

Welcome ladies.. let's hear from more of you.. age only if you don't want to tell us more.

Great Idea Wolfgir. We have several of those to help the boys keep their own games in. However, we like to keep the little plastic cases the games come in. Need towers for those. Thanks tho!
