also see the 'i need help with party members' thread. Everyone was discussing the pros and cons of them. only the good aligned charcters however.

For sheer entertainment I like Minsc, and Edwin is just great, the best mage ever.

I have to defend SharTeel. Yes, she is not very good tank because she lacks constitution, but she has a really good dex(17), I dualedclassed her at level 6 into thief and now she can backstab for 40-50 damage (exceptional strength+quadruple backstab), the only thing is she is chaotic evil, but I cheated a little and gave her Helm of Opposite Alignment. Otherwise I could've just kept my reputation low... Also, she is pretty good with Bow. So, don't tell me SharTeel is a bad character, you just have to use her correctly.

I don't know all the players in the game but if I'm stuck listening to them speak I'd rather hear "Full plate and packing steel!"

I might agree with you Lavindathar, but Khalid only has 15 str. While this is not exactly low, it is not as high as Minsc's whopping 18/93 str. But yes, Khalid can put more proficieny points into a single weapons than Minsc, but I'm not sure if this is enough to offset the bonus to thaco and damage that Minsc gets for his high strenght. Don't have my manual right now, lent it to a friend

Hey, doesnt anyone here play with Kagain, he is a kick ass fighter, wit huge constitution. Give him a +1 or +2 age with good armour and he will beat Khalid to a bloody Pulp. When i completed the game, I was a fighter.I prefer this kind of style.This was my party layout:

1. Me (Fighter)
2. Khaldi (Fighter)
3.Branwen (Cleric)
4.Edwin (Mage)
5.Kivan (Ranger)
6.Imoen(Theif)

This party is excellent,as it is perfectly balanced IMHO.

Hey Lavindathar, u can find Kagain in Beregost. His house is kinda hard to spot, just southwest of that monument in the town centre. i believe it has a brown tiled roof, and u cant see the door from your view.

that sounds like a pretty good party lavindathar. Myself, I haven't actually beat the game yet, mostly because I get near the end and I decide I want a different character, cuz I figure if I'm going to go through BG1 and BG2 with a single character, I better like them right?
anyway the first time through I had a great party of archers backed up by the one-man army, Minsc. my party was
Me(druid)
Kivan(wicked thaco i think it was 3 or 4 at the end thats with magic equipment though)
Coran(also a really good archer, not quite as good as Kivan though)
Imoen(decent archer by the end)
Minsc(all around butt-kicker)
and Quayle(needed a mage, and I didn't want dynaheir cuz she couldn't get monster summoning)
this party served me well

does anyone else prefer managing a 3 character party over a 6 character? 6 is fine but I tend not to focus as much on characters and instead on the group as a whole. i dunno mabye im just crazy? always possible and getting moreso with each passing day....

Anyway, my favorite NPC is Minsc, just because of his character. How can you go wrong with having the power of a minature giant space hamster in your group? My favorite duo is Xzar and Montaron.

I think Coran is the best NPC. With his Dex of 21 (after using the tome) he is a perfect thief and bowman. Having drunk the right potion of strength he backstabs a lot, in my game he almost killed Sarevok with one hit.

Minsc and Kivan are good... and of priests... Yeslik is the best

One of the more interesting groups you can have in a party is Minsc, Dynaheir, and Edwin. Edwin wants to kill Dynaheir, Minsc loves Dynaheir, Dynaheir hates Edwin, and Minsc wants to kill Edwin. Hey, has anyone else noticed that if you put off going to the gnoll stronghold long enough Minsc attacks you?

Yeah some character leave the party if you dont complete their quest quickly (minsc, edwin, jahiera and khalid... dunno if kivan leaves too, dont think so).

My favorite NPC ¹2 is Kivan. Basically I used Ajantis for melee combat and Kivan - for ranged ones.
And - do not blame me, please, but I just hate Jaheira!
