Okay, here's some food for thought...

Australia's 1st innings - 4 lbw decisions
India's 1st innings - 1 lbw decision
India following on - NO lbw decision
Australia's 2nd innings - 5 lbw decisions!!! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-.../angryfire.gif

Anyone can make 281 on a flat wicket http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

LadyRae, seeing as you are posting from the US and not a nation which plays the "gentleman's game" I will forgive you your indiscretion. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

As a patriotic Aussie, I am a passionate follower of our great cricket team... 16 wins in a row... geez.
(They are actually a pretty bad tempered lot, and I don't support them that much)

Yeah, India kinda did blitz the Aussie's in the second innings... With mr. Laxatives scoring a big 280+ or something.

I think that there has been some rather confused people on this thread, so in the spirit of the moment:
Crickets are great little things, and I even have a pet one, which lives in my backyard, with all of the other spiders and evil things... not really, ,but it sounded good

You are already halfway to being an expert Bahamut!

A century is when a batsmen scores 100 runs, without being dismissed, or without going out.

A century = 100 runs
A half-century = (Well, you work it out)

I know you've been waiting for me Memnoch! So here goes:

Did you know that it is only the third time that a team following on has won a test match; and that on both previous occasions Australia were the losers? I don't suppose you are old enough to remember Headingly in 1981.

Listening to your excuses about decisions reminds me of a bygone age when it was the Poms that whinged. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

I watched some of the Sri Lanka/England game this morning. Hussain edged one to slip, the fielder (to his credit) indicated that it didn't carry, the umpire STILL gave him out, Hussain 'appeals' against the decision and the third umpire reverses it. Then, Trescothick middles one, it misses the fielder at forward short leg by centimetres but gets caught in his shirt (which is about two sizes too big)like a net. Out!

AND we have lost 10 out of the last 11 tosses. That's my whingeing over http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

I hope everyone is following this!

Memnoch,

In -

Magilla (about time)
Martyn (next in line)
Funky (more flexibility)

out -

Hollywood (has a lot to prove over there but has been found wanting EVERY time. It's not as if spinners didn't feature at all, is it?)
Junior (never has fun on the subcontinent)
Casper (dodgy shoulder and it showed out)

thoughts?

Re your decisions conspiracy. It's getting up my nose how "our" team greedily takes any dodgy decisions, but won't cop them. There were some observations on that point throughout the radio commentary which were kinder than they should have been.

Heh, i was just kidding about the decisions thing. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif We were beaten by Laxman, who would have ever predicted he would score a double ton. And Dravid as well! And don't forget Singh, 13 wickets for the match.

My 11 would be this:

M Slater
M Hayden (going well this tour)
M Waugh (put the pressure on him to bat well)
R Ponting (same as above)
S Waugh
D Martyn
A Gilchrist (unlucky 1st innings)
S Warne (even though he got flogged all over the place in Calcutta)
C Miller
J Gillespie
G McGrath

Sorry but I just don't like J Langer, he hasn't done much on tour (then again neither has Ponting or Junior).

Against the Poms we could send the Victorian Sheffield Shield team http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

For people unsure about the rules of cricket I hope this clarifies things:

The rules of Cricket are quite simple.

You have two sides - one out in the field and one in.
Each man that is in the side that is in goes out and when he is out he comes in and the next man goes in until he is out.

When they are all out, the side that is out comes in and the side that has been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When both sides have been in and out including the not outs, that is the end of the game.

Notes:
1) By field is meant any relatively flat piece of land preferably covered with grass. Size and shape is not important.
2) The field is often bordered by roads on all sides which are called boundaries and a pond somewhere in the field is common.
3) A public house next to the field, to enable players who have either not yet been in, who are out or have been in and are now out to purchase liquid refreshments during the game, is very popular.
4) Chairs placed around the circumference of the field for the use of players in the outfield in the team that is out are also very popular.
5) International games, called Test Matches, can go through this procedure twice which takes up to five days with breaks each day for lunch and tea and often also for rain.

In 1939 there was a 'timeless' test match, between South Africa and England which was meant to have been played to a finish. After eleven days the match was abandoned without a result because the tourists had to catch the 8.50 train to Durban for a 2 day train journey to catch the boat home.

Yorick - I expect you'll drop by this thread at some time. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif Can I recommend the BGII board thread 'I just happened to cross'. Your favourite number is at it again, he is rewriting the history of Britain!!

Having lived in both the US and Australia I can say that cricket, while it might not be the most immediately exciting game to watch, is so much a mental and strategic game. It's like playing chess. Look at Ganguly's decision to hold off his declaration till just before lunch on the final day, setting Australia a total of over 300 to get in 2 1/2 sessions. Obviously playing for a draw, he got lucky when the Australian middle order collapsed. That's what broke it for the Aussies, I think if Ganguly had declared earlier they would've gone for it and got it.

Oh, and for everyone else, I'm not talking about the little green things that make wierd noises outside your window. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

I really want to find the people who invented this game and beat some sense into them, why invent a game that last for days on end with only people throwing a ball at a bat?
It was denfinly made by the nobles because they were the only people that had such free time, and don't get me started on golf!
