I am just wondering, after a couple of weeks on the new board, how people think the transition has gone?

The BG2 board has returned to BG2 related stuff, rather than Off-Topic. All of that sort of thing has had moved to here...
But are there still new members drifting into this section, or is this becoming like a "regulars" only forum?
I personally would like to see a lot of new people coming in and out, to keep things fresh.

To any "newbies" reading this, I encourage you to join in all of the discussions, and you will be welcomed...

I just want some thoughts from other members...
I know Moiraine was pretty worried about this, "The move" to a "General Discussion" forum, for exaclty the same reasons I have stated...

Damn... I ramble, anyway, It would be nice to get some feed back! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif

I was worried about new 'cliques' of folks developing where the forums didn't communicate with each other, but if that happens it won't be the fault of guys from the GD forum. I regularly see us over there, but it's less likely seeing a new user here. Oh well. Such is life

It's not really an issue of who's at fault - at the end of the day you can't force newbies to come here and vice versa. The newbies who will come here are the ones who feel confident in discussing the issues that get discussed here. For example Aurican has tried to get involved in a lot of issues which i think is great. Sometimes I feel that newbies might try to post here and because they might not get acknowledged first or second time they might lose heart. But there's only so much we can do - it's impossible to acknowledge everyone, but it doesn't mean that your contribution goes unnoticed! I think that the newbies are probably more into the BG2 stuff at the moment and that's fine - one man's wine is another man's poison and vice versa! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

I regularly visit ALL forums (doesn't mean everyone else has to ok?) and I think it's working quite well. It certainly makes it easier to find and talk about stuff. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/wink.gif

True, Yorick, it wouldn't be our fault, but still. Maybe Ziroc should rename the GD forum - something like "Adventurer's Cafe", maybe ? And also, maybe Ziroc could put an advertisement for this forum and for the Polls forum in the BG II forum page ? Because every time I have tried to advertise for the GD forum in a regular BG II thread, it seems to have had no effect ...

Also, I didn't realize that I really missed the on-topic threads going waaay off-topics, until yesterday - it was fun, hey Yorick ? I know we have been naughty children, but it was fun ... Danisel never answered BTW ...

I wouldn't worry about it Moiraine. There ARE people out there who just want to talk about the game - el_kalk and GW are two examples, and that's totally fine. Zephyr if he was still with us would be the same. That's what free will is there for http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif you can't force something down someone's throat if they don't want it http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif It's the same reason why you guys don't post much at the Books or the User Polls forums, because everyone has their preference! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif People who come here are welcomed and that's the main thing.

Hi Memnoch (Sorry sorry sorry for yesterday ... http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...miles/tdo9.gif ),
Of course, forcing something down someone's throat is not at all an option ! But maybe a bit of advertisement would attract here people who don't even know that they are welcome here, don't you think ?

Moraine - I think you have made some good suggestions. If people don't know we are here they can't exercise their free will. We need a regular infusion of new blood.

Donut, thanks, fellow !
If I were to come into the BG II forum now, I know for sure that you would never see me here without a good bit of advertisement and welcoming - never was the kind of person to intrude, you know.

Well seems like there is alot of new people at the BG2 forum, and well sooner or later people might find their way here. Hopefully they will and perhaps with us answereing and posting in the other thread will make them more "used" to our precense and see that we are no illwilling peope they might feel better in joining up here.

I think it should be called the Cafe of lost dreams or the croaling frogs bar...hehe

Father Bronze 03-14-2001 01:40 PM

Hi all. As one who has spent a lot more time in the BG2 forum, I can say I like it. No offense to anyone here, but it's really nice to look on the first page and see so many new names with so many on-topic questions.

I think one way to get more people here is to change the name -- good suggestions so far. I also think if others were directed to post their off-topic stuff here it would help them read this board. I've noticed a few off-topics about AD&D, IWD, and Computer/Disk problems. If these were moved to this forum, you would catch interest on a few of the other off-topic discussions.

I tend to check in here about every other day or so -- even though I don't post here that often.

Hesperex 03-14-2001 01:50 PM

Some very good points made here.
I think that the newbies will probably start posting on the Bg2/Iwd forum and if they like the communal feeling they will probably move into into the general discusiom board.

Nice to see you back Father Bronze http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

As a newbie myself, I guess it's pretty intimidating to see the number of posts that you people reply with at every GD thread. It's rather hard to keep up for someone who has no idea as to what's going on (check out Memnoch's spammer thread), and a lot of the times most people are involved in their own discussions and conversations anyway so theres really very little room or opportunity for newbies to be in the spotlight. I like reading forums, but I've only registered recently because I've got a couple of opinions that I feel are worth hearing every now and then.
Just a thought.

------------------
Why?

JJ/newbie 03-15-2001 01:12 AM

Good idea to rename the gd board, I personally like Adventurer's cafe, just because the lost dreams thing sounds sort of melancholy, and that is DEFINITELY not our bunch. Hmm... maybe we should call it the asylum?http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...les/blitz1.gif

I don't really like the name
"Cafe of broken dreams", it is just a special encounter in fallout 2. Adventurers Cafe sounds good though, and could be a lot more encouraging to a lot of people...

Lifetime: It is good to see you here! I know what you mean about large threads, they can be a bit imposing... I tend not to join in on the bigger discussions, becuase my thoughts and comments usually just get swallowed up. but I don't take it personally, because I know that knowone has the time to make individual comments... so I just keep http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif and posting, because its just so... Well we have had a long tradition of coffe drinking here so it is actually of very good quality so it´s ok. How is it in France+ I have heard alot about the cafe´s in paris and all that but how is the coffe?

the name has to be something that is going to grab attention...
something catchy like "Adventurers Cafe" (I know you said it was just a starting point Moiraine, but it is a good one), or maybe something from BG, like The Five Flagons... I don't know, maybe that would not attract non-Bg players.

anyway, this would be a great poll (that is if anyone actually reads the poll forum)

Where I live, close to Italy, coffee is indeed good. The most you go to the North, the worse coffee is. You living so far North, I was afraid your coffee was akin to what they brew in aglo-saxon countries. I am glad for you that it is not so ! Coffee is my worst memory from my honeymoon in Ireland !

I agree Moiraine, but I haven't seen a single person made to feel unwelcome. In fact I think that we all go out of our way to make everyone feel welcome because that's the kind of forum we all want. We all want everyone to be intermingling together and that's good! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

I just think that we're going a bit overboard trying to get people to come to GD - the tone of most of the BG2 posts indicate to me that those guys are more interested in BG2 topics at this stage - most of them are still going through the game. When they finish the game they will migrate here if they want to.

People will find their way here in their own time. Look at LadyRae, Epona and Aurican. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif
