What kind of other hobbies relating fantasy have you guys?
for example how many of you has read any salvatoresī books?
I myself have read all books that are translated into finnish. About 10 drizzt related books. And I do larp. I went to my first game last summer. When I watch american tv-series, everyone who plays AD&D or other Rolegames is a geek. Do you really think like that? Here in finland Live Action Role Playing is very popular. You cannot even get to every game, because there is so much participants.

Ps. Sorry if there is some bad english, English isnīt my motherīs language

Van Richten 03-14-2002 09:46 AM

Warhammer. It has goblins and orcs and wood elves and high elves and humans and lizard men etc. It is based on AD&D but it has its own rules. Very fun. You paint your guys and glue them together. I am the Wood Elves, my dad is the High Elves and my bro is the Human Army of Brettonia. Totally based on LOTR! I love it as you would know if you looked at my sig...

Morgan_Corbesant 03-16-2002 05:52 PM

I'm a computer geek I guess, but I don't much look like the ones on tv. More like an office worker (of course, the fact that I work in an office *COULD* have something to do with that )

I recently read the three Drizzt novels pertaining his birth , childhood, and escape to the surface where he becomes a ranger and is accepted by Ten Towns and some dwarves in that area (wow, I just summed up a thousand pages of story in 24 words ! You don't think I skipped very much of importance, do you ? )

I'm currently alternating between playing BG2 and ToB and trying to finish it and acend to godhood before Never winter nights comes out , and entertaining myself writing The Great Science Fiction Novel (still in the works, and has been for some time)

Draggor 03-17-2002 02:57 AM

I've read a large proportion of the Forgotten Realms novels, I DM pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons. I even bought Pool of radiance I like Dungeons and Dragons so much. I also do a lot of wargaming. I play Warhammer and Warhammer 40k. I'm a member of two wargaming clubs, one of which I'm a commitee member of, and I'm running a warhammer tournament later this year. So yes I'm into lots of fantasy. Yes I'm definitely a role playing geek, and proud of it too.

I read a lot of fantasy books and play other fantasy games on my computer. I also do a lot of rolplaying, such as D&D. I the recent years I have also started with LAIV. That would be real-life roleplaying, where you basically, dress up and live your role either as an elf, dwarf or what your heart would desire. Sometime ago a tolkien laiv was set up, where they play one of those huge battles ( can`t remember which) I would have died to be there!

Ok, About Pen and Paper roleplaying games:

I Dugeon Mastered for:

D&D in general as well as the following world:
Planescape
Dark Sun
Forgotten Realm
Dragonlance before and after the SAGA rules system.
I first started DMing with the 1st version of Basic D&D, and moved all the way up to 1st, 2nd, and third editions rules.

I also Dungeon Mastered For:
Shadowrun
Vampire: The Masquerade
Werewolf: The Apocalypse
Star Wars before and after the d20 system.

I recently bought the Core rulebook for the Wheel of Time roleplaying game but have not tried it yet.

For video games in generals:

I played and Completed every RPG ever released In America for the Nintendo and The Super Nintendo except the Dragon Warrior series. On the genesis I played completed the Shining Forces and Phantasy Stars Games. I completed every Playstation PRG ever released at my video club/store except the one in the last 8 months or so. I have played lot of Computer Roleplaying Games, and own a few of them, but it is hard to know how many got released.

About Novels:

I own every Forgotten Realms novels and also a few Dragonlance, Vampire and Shadowrun novels. These novels are good, but they are nothing compared to some other series I own.

If you could only ever read 3 series in your life, then I would STRONGLY recommend those 3:

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin
The Axis and the Wayfarer: Redemption trilogy by Sara Douglass
Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

I am spending my free Time working on the Fantasy Novel I am writing.

Am I a geek? Yes, and proud of it.

Edit: I forgot to say I used to play The Magic: The gathering Card game and the Star Wars one too.

I donīt like to think myself as a geek. I have other hobbies like dowwnhill skiing and I go to the gym four times a week. I think myself as noncategorable person. Iīm not a geek, nor a jock(or whatever the word is for an athletic person.)
Listen rap and metal and rock, I donīt wear loose clothes. I donīt do anything because of others(except going to the gym, I do it for girls^^) I do because I like it.

Lothar 03-18-2002 11:09 PM

I have all the salvatore novels about Drizzt.I also read and own Feist, eddings, tolkien and many many many Star wars novels. All of them are great. Ive never considered myself a geek either, actually I was a very rebelous teenager back in the late 80's early 90's. I played in a metal band way back then. The Hair days were the best days.

oldbittercraig 03-21-2002 01:52 PM

I read- my favorites include the two dragonlance series, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and the Sword of Truth series (forget the author offhand).

I play Dark Age of Camelot online, and am involved with a PNP D&D group which meets once a week.

Luvian 03-21-2002 01:55 PM

DOH! I forgot about online games! I play Asheron's Call. I spend lot of time in it.

If you liked the Wheel of Time Series, then you will like a Song of Ice and Fire from George R.R. Martin.

Sara Douglass's book are very good too. I think I will remember them for a LONG time.

I slip into geographical areas where I'm not known and cast fireballs, exterminating all human life. Great way to work out the kinks in your back after a hard week.

)

Luvian 03-22-2002 10:26 PM

By asmov do you mean Isaac Asimov? He is very good. I own a few of his novels.

SecretMaster 03-22-2002 10:38 PM

In the U.S, many kids seem to like Diablo, though it really isn't a true roleplaying d&d game (in my opinion at least). Most people think that people who play D&D at school are geeks. But whatever, my friends don't mind that i play it, cuz their my friends. I've played Baldurs Gate I, Baldurs gate II, and TOB. I've played all the BG expansions that are in stores, except for dark alliance. I'm also playing HoW, and I beat IWD. My brother got a salvatore book, its the ice wind dale one, I'm going to start reading it soon. P.S. RequinDLC, your English is fine, and everyone respects people of all languages at IW.

Ares 03-23-2002 05:32 PM

I've read all the LoTR series, all except for the Fellowship of the Ring (sounds boring to me..i dunno why either)
I've also been reading Terry Brooks' novels lately (the Shannara ones...they are kinda like LoTR in a way)
I've played through BG2 quite a lot, have BG and TotSC, I used to play Magic The Gathering card game, but i got bored when no one would play with me, i also used to play Mage Knight or something like that, but that got boring as well (15 year old kid with no job buying 7$ pack figurines..not good :( )
I've tried AD&D, but i just cant seem to visualize everything, so i stick to the comp. games of it
I wouldn't consider myself a nerd, but i do read quite a lot but i also love to play Football and Basketball...Listen to all music cept Country *shudders*, mainly Linkin Park :D

I'd say i have a fairly nice life
