Finally got DL loaded - and installed the patch - and played around for a while - took the short route through to the theatre - Just didn't want to do all of that "again". ;)
I don't recall doing this much clicking when I played the demo. My finger is about to drop off. click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click Finally make it into Fargrove and I'm thinking "Hurrah! I can ditch these stupid throwing knives, get a decent bow and some better weapons!" But there wasn't much available - well not of any interest really. I'm going to go soak my finger! (not really, but it feels like it should be in a split - was this the designers "PLAN" - this is fun, right??) click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click |
There is a lot of clicking. It doesnt stop. When you get reasonably bad ass you think you have less clicking because you kill with fewer hits.... but then the monsters start coming in even bigger hordes.
|
Try killing a drake: a half hour of nonstop clicking. And if you're really lucky, it will be pitch black so you can't see to hit it!
|
That does not sound encouraging -
If it had been possible to push and hold down the left hand mouse key to keep your character fighting while you point them in the correct direction - that would be tolerable but the click click click is really getting to me. They can't imagine that players think that is actually "fun", can they?? Ah well - I am enjoying getting to go further than the sewers and the theater. I do not like the fact that you can accidentally sell your equiped armor and weapons - that strikes me as a basic "no no" and should not have been possible. I might get to wander some more this evening. I'll do my finger exercises so that it's up to the task! lol!! |
i've been thinking about all the clicking one has to do in this game. boy! it would be really nice if there was an option for "autofire" on long ranged weapons.
as for accidentally selling equipped stuff, i did that once. fortunately, the item wasn't that expensive so i just bought it back. what would be nice is if every item that is equipped were highlighted when you're in the SELL screen at a shop. At least than you'd know what is equipped and what isn't. |
I've gotten tired of clicking too... An auto-attack and an auto-pickup feature would be nice... like the "Z" in DungeonSiege.
And I accidentally sold my rogue's pants while in a store once. All of a sudden, she was down to her knickers... :D Don't think she was happy with me, nope nope nope! Glad to see you've finally got it installed, Wyv. Now you can fritter away your hours too! |

I did enjoy it although I know I'm sort of rushing to try to "catch up" - but really this combat system requiring so many clicks was not their best idea. |
People! Read the tips thread... the selling equipment issue is handled... by me!
Yay me! |
Interesting tips you posted, doomogamer. I may have to try the kataal one shortly...
I have to say I hadn't noticed the different colored border. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. |
Thanks Doomogamer!!
Now that you pointed it out there is a subtle difference in the border around the items that are actually equiped - they should have made it more pronounced OR (more sensibly) made it impossible to sell what you are actually using! ;) I tried the Kwosname thing - Great tip!! I am really sick of clicking! I'm finding the fighting in the real game a lot more time consuming than the demo and often I feel as though I'm not making progress in a fight at all. I did have an interesting bug at the beginning of my game - the goblin that leads you off to the sewers well he never managed to make it around the corner of the building to get to the sewers - walked into the wall and just continued to walk into it endlessly. I tried to push him on his way - no go. Finally just decided to off him which worked nicely. Still - strange bug! I find my computer is flakey after I have played. Exited the game and wanted to come online and it took forever for the computer to respond. Probably because it was still trying to calculate all the clicks I had made and kill off a zillion more monsters. :D |
We need to tie a woodpecker to the damn mouse, and where theres a fight, flick the woodpecker in the bum to start pecking!! :D :D

I'm really loving the atmosphere of DL - but this much clicking has got to go!! |
Amen, brothers and sisters! I'm going through the trial of the elders in Arindale, and things were going okay until I got to the second part. Without spoilage, let me just say that there's a critter there with an unbelievable amount of HP (who was worth over half a million XP).
Having slain a fire drake with bow and arrow (and yes, it was close to half an hour of clicking), let me say that this critter was just as painful and annoying... and the fire drake was only worth some 300,000 XP! In any case (helpful tip coming up), I managed to defeat it by getting into a small room with a chest. The various critters got "stuck" in the doorway, and attached less frequently. I then used my longest reach sword and hacked away... total elapsed kill time was around 20 minutes. On a sad note, in the first part of this battle I ended up consuming all of my healing potions! That was *NOT* a happy feeling... I'm down to 20-some great healing potions and my celestial heal spell. Why is this important? Because when I completed this area and went to move on, I found that it appears to be one of four such areas... and if I'm going to have to do battle with that @#$%@#$! thing three more times, I'm going to call in for backup! On a side note, I found that raising your DEX and AGI is really, Really, REALLY helpful in battle... :D |
The Banshee??
I only ran into only one of her and she was awful! I haven't been over to the "official" DL forums to see if folks over there are complaining about the amount of time it can take to kill one monster - it was far more reasonable in W&W (and just about every other game I've played). Spending a half hour to take out one monster is NOT fun!! Either the BIG BAD monster should die (preferred ending) or I should die (don't like that one) and the battle should be over in about 5 minutes tops! These battles that go on and on and on are not good. I see a class action lawsuit in the works as a result of all this repetitive motion damage to our fingers. ;) (lol!) I also have a complaint with flying monsters and those very low to the ground - they can be worth next to nothing in terms of experience points but they are just hard to kill. :( |
Daamn! Was really forward looking to dealing some cool kung fu action and casting spells to pwn hordes of daemons but by what you guys say, it wouldn't be fun at all. :(
Oh well, looks like I'll have to wait for Oblivion. That game'll definitely rock DL alive. In every. Single. Factor. EDIT: Doh, DL, not DS. Whatever. ;) [ 06-06-2005, 12:44 PM: Message edited by: uss ] |
Yeah, Wyv, I was talking about the banshee. At the point I got through with her last night, seeing that there were three more rooms was just more excitement than I could handle. I can do the math... three more banshees makes another 90 minutes... not last night.
I'll look at the others tonight, and hopefully get out of the trial. Gotta read up on where I'm not supposed to save during the trial... I'd hate to break that. And I'd hate to go through battle with the banshee again... |

here's a nice tip for defeating the banshee in the trial of the elders:
lure her into the narrow corridor where you fist enter this area but make sure to kill any of the other weaker spirits in the immediate area before doing this. once you get the banshee in the corridor save your game and quit. reload your game after which you'll notice that those spirits aren't being generate anymore. now corner that banshee in a corner of the corridor and start attacking her. get about 4 or 5 attacks on her (or 4 attacks and a combo if your skill is high enough) than block as soon as she raises her arms to cast her spell. you CAN block her spell with a shield but only if you're close to her. occasionally, she might make a swing at you instead of casting her spell in which case take the opportunity to attack her some more otherwise it's a straight forward pattern: attack, block, attack, etc... |
Anyone seen any mantraps? god, I hope not... Imagine the damage to yer finger then!

I was in the Naga Temple last evening - didn't find the gasmask because I've been pushing to "catch up " with everyone - ended up having to fight the super Naga that guards the relic with my bow - managed to find myself a place where I could get a hit now and then and that creature wasn't fuming poison gas at me. Took next to forever!! I find that without the automap I just don't explore as I normally would. |

Did you add it to the BEST TIPS thread???!!!??? |
ROTFL @ Ziroc! I really don't want to think of the possibilities there... :D
Bows are nice, but they just don't quite match up to a sword. Perhaps I haven't found the right bow yet, but I'm doing some 3-5 points of bow damage versus 6-15 points of damage with my sword. Sometimes, you've just gotta get up close and personal... ;) Finished up the elder trial last night, and I'm going to head over to pick up the moonstone before going to Ulm. And sometime, I've got to get back to Fargrove for my Enchantress promotion... I hope it will be useful. |
Wyvern,
I didn't add it to the Best Tips thread only because it's not a general tip that will help someone throughout the entire game and could potentionally spoil the trial for someone. welps! I finished the game and I can confirm that there are no mantraps but there are tree monsters which are large walking trees that throw branches at you and those branches hurt! ouch! they'll knock you down and stun you for a second. after having gone through the game i'll say that there isn't a single monster that's difficult to defeat but a few are annoying and fighting a large mob of them can be frustrating. |
In addition, the AI of all monesters is pretty retarded, the Banshee for instance tried literally to come directly at me, so i lured it to the part of the dungeon with the cage. I stood on one side of the cage and the Banshee tried to go right through the bars, which naturally didn't work. So i just fired arrows on it from my side, and every now and then i went for a quick melee attack, and then fell back to my place behind the bars, since i was all out of healthpotions at that time.
The one in the pillar room must have been thinking it was too close to fire arrows at me, and too far away to hit me with a sword, because it just stood there, watching me hit it to bits from the last pillar before the entrance. The one at the end of the waterway passage, fell in the water after one or two strikes, and after jumping in the water and cornering it, it just stould there, waiting for the final blow. All in all not very exciting, and indeed quite a lot of clicking, but the XP from killing those three creatures made up everything (almost 2,5 million points) |
