I've been interested in that game for a while now, but things I hear about the game (buggy, patch raising the spec requirement to sky high etc...) make me want to hold back at the same time.
Could anyone give me an info (and possible insight) into it? |
I personally don't like the game. Yes it's very very buggy. Specs were already very high for the first part. But what I really hate about the game is that it's a wannabe vampire game. There are no vampire-like powers for example. All you really do is shoot. There is no superhuman strength, jump or speed. I would really like to see those things in the game.
But don't let my post stop you. I say borrow the game and if you like it, buy it. If not then don't. |

There are plenty of vampire-like powers in VtM:Bloodline including superhuman strength (Potence) and speed (Celerity). There are also several melee weapons including swords. Anyway D*Ranged, the spec requirements are fairly high and you do well to get the patch to avoid the worst bugs. It's overall a decent game. |
I'd say yes. Best RPG game in 2004 IMHO.
There's a ton of powers and abilities, so I dunno how Xen managed not to see them. My favorite character type is a melee fighter, Xen must have played a shooter without using any vampire skills. Somehow... |
Nothing beats a Malkavian dressed up as a pimp and swinging a sword. The Cat-in-the-hat-styled hat makes him even more crazy-looking. :D

This game is awesome, the story and ambience is goof, but the game is extremly buggy, so you NEED the patch.
It has very high requirements. You won't play this on an average computer. At least not with maxed settings... There are power, from the very start. The tutorial teach you how to use your vampire's starting powers based on his clan. The special effects of using Celerity rule. There, snothing like activating superspeed and cutting everyone to piece with a sword before they can even move to step. |
Well, obviously I can't play this on maxed settings (A laptop with Radeon 9700 128 MB), the game's buggy so I need the patch, and clans with celerity are cool.
I have: Pentium Centrino 1.8G with 80GB HDD, but it's a laptop. FOrget about it? |
Probably so. I found the game to be fun, and with EXCELLENT ambiance in some areas, the hotel scared the bejesus out of me. The plot is pretty cool as well.
|
I played with a 1.8 ghz laptop with a 32mb g4mx
it was slow especially in the city but i ran it. I thought it was very good about an 8 of 10. there is a gratuitous shooter part of the game that sort of seems out of place. but theres one part the haunted hotel thats worth the price of admission its excellent. the voice acting is excellent maybe the best ever in a computer game. It's an awesome game in terms of mood and atmosphere, and it had a fantastic premise and is set in a great game world, but I found it just too hard to play on my 1.5Ghz P4 with 700MB RAM. I had to turn down a lot of the eye candy, and load times for area transitions for me was taking up to 4+ minutes. And when I fought lots of opponents it slowed to a crawl (even on Celerity). And yes, it has HEAPS of bugs. I stopped playing it when KOTOR 2 came out, it was just not smooth enough for me.
If you can see through all that it is a great game. |
Unfortunatly I had to quit playing it because my computer just couldn't handle it anymore, was taking up to 5 minutes to load levels, but I thought it was a great game... the hotel part was just fikkin awwesome. at on point I actually got up and turned on the lights in the room ... and it was in the middle of the day... strangest thing I ever done...

On the bright side, it's only twenty bucks now. I'm guessing it didn't sell too very well.
|
Yep, definitely a great game. And there are plenty of vampiric powers you can use, not as much as in Redemption, but enough to get by.
|
Yes! It is a VERY fun game and the replayability is also very good.
it's only negative points are that it requires a decent machine and it's buggy. So make sure that you get the latest patch and save often. With the latest patch, there shouldn't be any show stopping bugs but the game can still crash at inconvenient times that may cause frustration. |

The problem is that no one want to found their projects, or hire them to make a game. I guess it's because all their games have been extremly buggy. They have good ideas, but they suck at making games... |
Arcanum. Bloodlines. TOEE. They make good games. Have you ever played any of them?

I thought toee was really bad maybe give it a 4 and vampire was really good about 8 of 10. arcanum i never played but it had great reviews and i think it had awards as best rpg of the year or 2nd to wizardry 8. I dont know what sort of track record that they end up with from me. could be good could be bad.... Ya there is a story on troika that they just went broke waiting for half life 2 to come out so they could release vampire bloodlines |

Good ideas, bad programming... |
I agree with Luvian to some extent, they had really nice ideas and should have continued thinking up games and ideas, but left the programming to some others.
Vampire is however a good game when it comes to atmosphere, feeling and such. Really nice story but the ending could have been better and so could the programming. There are unofficial patches still comiing out from the fan base which are doing an incredible job and that Activision didn't release a mod tool in its simplest forms is just a shame and lack of goodwill.. But I guess that the media business all in all seems to consider their customars too much of hooligans, pirates and criminals these days... Sum summarum, if you like vmpires, are ready to do alot of changes in the configs and want to read up perhaps an hour or two in forums to get help to get the thing running rather smoothly, it is definately a game worth the time. If you lack the "stamina" and want a thing running smoothly out of the box, I would give it a three out of five. |
And so I dig up my Bloodlines, and I feel like playing it. Anyone know a good site to download a patch that works from?
EDIT: Nevermind, I was stupid so i asked before trying to search on PlanetVampire. [ 05-19-2005, 06:14 AM: Message edited by: Bozos of Bones ] |
I thought the Vampire game was really cool. It did make my computer run hard--poor thing! And it was annoying how long it took to load a new area, but I worked around that. The graphics, animations, ambience, scariness and humor made it all worth it! I agree--the hotel was SCARY!!! There were other buildings I explored that scared the daylights out of me, too (such as the area with blood dripping from the ceilings, the prosthetic area, the lunatic place, etc.) The music in those places really added to the scariness! I played a Malkavian (and now I realize--who didn't? lol), and it was quite funny the stuff she said and did! I'd suggest buying the game, part. at the lowered price it is now.
