Hmm, I *Guess* this could be a good thing...

Global video games publisher, Namco announced that the company has signed a licensing agreement with Nottingham, UK-based Games Workshop Group PLC, to create interactive games based on the dark, medieval fantasy world of "Warhammer." The exclusive, long-term deal will allow Namco to publish multiple games for the PC and also allows for future console and handheld gaming versions.

Games Workshop created the Warhammer world more than 22 years ago, as the setting for its wildly successful tabletop fantasy wargame of the same name. Since then the game has been released in 6 editions, had dozens of supplements, and been the basis for tens of thousands of unique model soldier designs, making it one of the most well documented and detailed fantasy settings in existence. The world itself is a dark and forbidding fantasy realm, where Elves, Orcs, Dwarfs, Undead, and many other races clash constantly in mighty battles seeking domination over each other. Meanwhile, the insidious forces of Chaos strive to undermine the basic fabric of society both from within and by the direct invasion of its legions of daemons, beastmen and warped human champions.

The Warhammer community stretches across the world, supported by Games Workshop's 300+ stores, 4000+ independent retailers, and many games clubs, tournaments and events such as the annual Games Days in the UK, USA, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Australia. There is also a thriving web community based around the official website and many thousands of fan sites.

So... is Namco any good? I've never heard of them I think.

Would be cool to see something like Dawn of War for Warhammer... with Skaven and the Ogres...

Hivetyrant 03-09-2005 06:20 PM

Well......Lets just say they are famous for games like Pac-Man, Time-Crisis and Tekken....
Maybe we will have a warhammer fighting game!!! :D

Timber Loftis 03-09-2005 06:23 PM

Well, if Pandemic can do it for Dawn of War, I don't see how Namco can't for WHFB. On the other hand, since Pandemic has already done DoW, I wonder why they didn't get the nod.

BTW, Hive Tyrant, I think they are doing a supplement to DoW, and I think Nids may be one of the new armies you can play. ;)

Shweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet ......
You had better not be getting my hopes up to just shoot them down

Good to have you back TL, anyway, as long as they don't hyper stylize the WH license to much they'r games should be good.

Hivetyrant 03-09-2005 08:37 PM

Well I'm still waiting to see Warhammer Online...
Did that ever come out?

Sir Degrader 03-09-2005 08:51 PM

It was canceled, now they'r brining it back.

Betelgeuse 03-09-2005 11:21 PM

last i heard, the only new playable race in the dow addon was imperial guard

Kakero 03-10-2005 12:08 AM

Not sure if I would welcome this news, after Namco destroy Xenosaga ep2. :(

Jorath Calar 03-10-2005 01:48 AM

Imperial Guard is just the first new race to get announced, the game won't be out until the fall. They did the same to the original game, kept announcing races, I think the Eldar were announced about a month efore it came out.

I have a question.

I thought the Marines were the Imperial Army, and that the guars were like the National Guards, something a little like better trained cops.

If the Imperial Guard is the main army, then what are the Space marines?

Hivetyrant 03-10-2005 02:47 PM

I supose you could say that the Imperial guards are like a special forces team.....erm....army
Completely seperate from the space marines....
At least I think thats how it goes ;)

Were those weak guys that sometimes assisted you in the sp campaign part of the Imperial Army, or were they just some random guards?

Sir Degrader 03-10-2005 10:01 PM

Imp. Guard troops. Think of the imp. guard as cannonfodder that's used simply to waste enemy ammo and maybe kill a few of the enemy, while the space marines move in. The numbers of the imp. guard however, are enough to overwhelm the enemy in most cases.

Hivetyrant 03-10-2005 10:43 PM

Geez, I remember the day when the Leman Russ tank was the cream of the crop and EVERYONE wanted to play Imperial guard just to have one o' those. seems their popularity has died down though now...

Q'alooaith 03-11-2005 03:54 AM

Well what with the land raider having better all round armour..

And Space marines have almost always been the army people cut thier teeth on. Eldar used to be "the army" every good player was using..

Kid's like space marines because they are good at everything they do, not the best but good enough. It's easy to win with marines.

We won't see Warhammer Online, well it's highly unlikely that we'll see the old warhammer online come back.. It was a great looking game..

Chris of the Dale 03-11-2005 11:53 AM

Imperial Guard are the main army of the Imperium. They have the most troops and the BEST tanks, there basic tanks are even better than the Land Rider in my opinion because they have ordanace that can easily waste alot of troops, lascannon and sponson heavy bolters (this is of course the most common weapon spec of a Leman Russ). I am also speaking from the actual table top game point of view. The Imperial Guard troops do suck in comparison to Space Marines but Guard have Storm Troopers that are comparable to Scouts. The Imperial Guard officers can also be more powerful than a Space Marine one if equipped properly. Anyways, my main point is that the Imperial Guard bring the strength of their armoured vehicles to the table while Marines only bring good basic troops.

Imperial guard are the standing army. Space marines chapters provide supplemental support where needed. Space marine chapters are basically self-governed as well. And different chapters have different attitudes. In the forces of the Imperium there are also Ecclesiarchy forces (sisters of battle) and Inquisition forces, both of which will sometimes use agents of the Officio Assassinorium.

Your reference to "cops" may be confusing imperial guard forces with the Adeptus Arbites, which are SWAT troops in the 41st millenium.

</font>
That's too much!!

The imperial guard from the DoW campaign feel more like national guard than a competent military force, except in a couple of missions where they had enough squads and tanks to hold their ground without me babysitting them with turrets and valuable SM squads.

Good to know that they can stand up on their own.
