Is planescape torment worth getting? Is it as good as the IWD or BG games?

DBear 06-25-2004 01:35 AM

Nope. It's better.

the mighty stamar 06-25-2004 04:06 AM

Ya its my favorite one of those games.
One of my favorite games ever. Its really good.

Dreamer128 06-25-2004 07:02 AM

Best game to ever hit the market, IMHO. Be prepared for a lot of dialogue, though.

Nerull 06-25-2004 07:44 AM

Definitely worth the buy, but Dreamer128 is correct about the amount of dialog. You really can't appreciate the depth of the game unless you jack up your mental stats (Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma) and talk your way through most of the game. The NPCs are extremely well-developed, and the story is very good. It's probably best described as the "anti-hack and slash" CRPG.

Firestormalpha 06-25-2004 09:21 AM

How can you even ask that? Hasn't the greatness of Planescape Torment spread far and wide yet? Or is it meant to be one of the hidden wonders, much like the lost Isle of Avalon?

wellard 06-25-2004 10:57 AM

LOL :D

Though I have heard of this game I never that it was supposed to be good. Now that i've about done with all the BG and IWD and NWN games, maybe I should give it a go.

uss 06-25-2004 12:26 PM

It is easily the best RPG ever made. :D The only game that I could slightly compare to books, even.

They don't make it anymore, making it hard to come by. Still, if you can get your hands on a copy, I wouldn't hesitate.

Bahamut 06-26-2004 04:49 AM

ARGH!!!

I don't have a copy of Torment anymore!!! Saddens me.

I dreamt about it in the past... I had a Torment collectors edition and such... oh well too bad I won't be able to play that game anymore...

What was the difference between the Collectors Edition and the normal edition? Oh.. and I'm thinking of creating a backup of the game. Would that be legal?

Xen 06-26-2004 07:06 AM

I have PS: T. But I haven`t played it yet.

johnny 06-26-2004 07:25 AM

LOL Same here, i have a copy for quite some time now, never even installed it yet. So according to a lot of folks here i have been missing out on a good game. :D

yeah. you're allowed to make a backup copy.
if you need a really good program to do it, try games X copy.

if you like rpgs and want an unforgettable game, then, oh yeah... PST is THE game to get. it has everything a game should have and much much more.

i knew the moment i started having a conversation with a huge golem about entropy that i was in for something special. ;)

TyranyuZ 06-26-2004 12:53 PM

Man I want that game, I just cant find it here in Norway :/

CerebroDragon 06-27-2004 12:57 PM

I echo the sentiments of many here, in that Planescape Torment is a masterpiece of digital art and literary philosophical fusion. :D
I can't state this with enough vehemence.
It is indeed, that good.
Its worth every cent of your efforts to obtain it.

Both PS:T and Ultima VII: The Black Gate have very special places in my memory - as I played them both last year very close to each other.
Both have the kind of depth in their dialog, plot and characters that I'd always wanted in a CRPG.

philip 06-27-2004 01:21 PM

Hmmm... I can remember seeingit in the shop a year ago. LOL I hope they still have it, might be worth getting it

philip 06-28-2004 12:20 PM

ROFL they're selling it for 0.99 euro but seem to be out of stock. Now I seriously have to pay the shop a visit.

vesselle 06-29-2004 06:07 PM

the ONLY drawback to playing PST is that after you're done with it (even the endings completely ROCK!), you are forever spoiled. every rpg is always pitted against it and comes up wanting.

PST is easily the ONLY game i'd ever give a 10. i'd give it an 11, if they'd let me. heck, i'd even have it's babies.

V***V

PS:
even the game inside the game was great! they rabidly poked fun at meaningless, one baddie after another type RPGs. *sighs happily* and all the characters are absolute icons. TNO, Morte *giggles*, Nordom the Modron Cube, Annah, Fall from Grace.... *sighs again and again*

OK! that does it! i'm replaying it for the 6th time! wheeeeeee!!! it's been a whole year. and THIS time i'm playing him bad. *rolls her eyse* course i said that the previous 5 times, too.

Of course it would be legal... send it to me! Perfectly legal LOL! :D Well I wish they'd still sell those pirated copies here... I mean I am going for original copies but heck. No more copies.

Oh and I forgot, if they stop making the game, I know that you can recopy it as long as you don't profit from it... or as a form of a backup. Basically you can reproduce it for PERSONAL uses.

maybe i'm misinterpreting the berk's original thot, but he seemed to be saying that he was DREAMING of it, making it into a CE in his dream. not totally clear, but that's the chant as i see it.

afaik, there never was a CE for PST. and i'm a huge collector's edition collector. even preordered FOUR CE's of BG2. no joke.

CerebroDragon 06-30-2004 04:43 AM

You forgot the mighty complex character, Vhailor Vesselle. :D But otherwise I empathise totally with your feelings about the characters. One feels so close to them by the game's conclusion. At least I know I did with Fall From Grace in particular.

The modron dungeon was so hilarious. Quite difficult at its hardest level actually and very easy to get lost. It was a very pleasant addition.

I was a bit saddened to realise the other day that my original yet second hand bought boxed version of the game doesn't have the map. :(

I'll have to look for another version now, just so I can have it on my wall. Unless someone can help me out..... :D

Allright i'm convinced :D

I'll ask for it for my birthday next month :D

philip 07-02-2004 09:40 AM

It's sold out completely over here :( I'll keep on the lookout though

Dundee Slaytern 07-03-2004 05:32 AM

One of the pleasures I had was making my own AI scripts for the NPCs so that battles were less troublesome and I could get on with the dialogue.

Oh, and two words.

Mechanus' Cannon

That spell will forever be etched in my mind because when I first saw it in action... I was the target.

And yes, I died.

<span style="color: #FFFFFF">Nameless One: The light... it's so pretty!

LOL @ Dundee

vesselle: you got it ;)

If they are still making it... I wish they would throw some my way.
