Alrighty, Just got the quest in the Den from Becky (the bar owner) to collect a debt from Fred. Anyways I ran a thorough search of the city talk to every (and I mean every) human being in the city. Fred was nowhere to be found. According to the UHS site Fred is supposed to be in Flick's place, but I couldn't find him there. Only a bunch of addicts and Flick, and the occassional child that rampages around the city (Oh yeah, about the children, if I just up and kill them will the whole town turn on me? I mean they are just annoying and I went into a shop and one of them froze in the doorway the only doorway)

Anyway is there any solution to my Fred situation or am I basically screwed on what is effectively a very minor quest anyway?

pritchke 04-30-2004 01:37 PM

You are right were I am. Fred is one of the common looking guys in the house just south of Beckeys. It is the house were the guy talks about taking care of his kids but you can't really understand what he is talking about. (Oh yah Flick!! He should be there, talk to everyone in the house again as they tend to wander around.)

I am having problems finding a book for Beckey? I found it once, but had to reload and now it is no longer in the location I found it.

Firestormalpha 04-30-2004 01:53 PM

Yeah, I read in a walkthrough that the book appears in random locations

Dundee Slaytern 04-30-2004 02:06 PM

There are 3( maybe 4) locations that the book can spawn at.

Fred is... random too( since the NPCs wander around). He IS on the same map as Flick's place though, so just keep talking to all the male addicts. ;) You will find him eventually.

The quest of Fred's debt has no earth shattering consequences, but the long term reward is fantastic. ;)

Firestormalpha 04-30-2004 03:06 PM

Found Fred. He had actually wandered into Becky's place (last place one would have expected to find him) Now hunting for the book. It would help finding the book if I could remember what a book on the ground looked like. Or even more so if I new the possible locations (yeah I know spoilers, but it's not like it's anything even remotely important)

pritchke 04-30-2004 04:29 PM

The book is a little white square block on the ground. I assume the book stays on the same map.

I found it the first time in the very west of the cemetery near a fence post.

Any other areas anyone has found it?

I haven't even found it once yet.

Oh yeah, do the little brats still steal from you after you kill flick?

Don't know but that might be why Fred headed up to Becky's place. I am finding that non-hostile NPC's will run away to some place safe if you decide to kill someone and they can see you.

Blast!! I've search everywhere for this "white square block" and all I've turned up is a knife and some 10mm AP ammo (how'd armor get there? :D ).

Found a knife on the ground somewhere!! believe it or not the book is much eaiser to spot than the knife. I am thinking it might be behind a wall or something so than you would not see it until you walked near it.

Firestormalpha 04-30-2004 06:06 PM

FINALLY!!! At long last I've found it!!

Well it was behind the ruined building (basically just a bunch of scattered walls) behind the slavers place. The problem was that at first I didn't know what I was looking for, and then I was looking for the wrong thing. It wasn't a white object at all. It was more of a tan book.

Bugger, once your out of the Den the game gets ten times more confusing. Fallout 1 was much simpler

Harkoliar 04-30-2004 09:32 PM

good luck.. fallout 2 is waay bigger than fallout1

Firestormalpha 04-30-2004 10:16 PM

Well, I'm just about irritated with the confusion of the game, I'm going back to Fallout 1. Most irritating is that you don't know when your running out of time in this game, in the first one they give you a nice post it note that counts down your days. (RPG's with tight time limits bother me, Fallout one gives you plenty of general direction to complete the mission on time, even an option for extra time. Fallout 2 has more than enough distractions to keep you from saving your village)

Harkoliar 04-30-2004 10:50 PM

dont worry.. take it one at a time.. quest at a time. the need for pipboy helps alot in this kinds of situations.

Firestormalpha 05-01-2004 12:40 AM

Hmm found out something I didn't know about Fallout 1 the last time I played. You can get radiation from being poisoned. Strangely that's never occurred before. I also had a rather interesting random encounter for once. An Alien craft mostly buried in the sand with two alien corpses next to it. One had a ray gun that works "with small energy cells, however..." And the other carried a portrait of Elvis Presly(sp?) worth 300 caps.

I had thought that perhaps the guns "however" clause was the problem but then I dropped the gun and waited out the poison only to gain rad levels. And If I see the doctor in Shadysands I only gain 1 level.

Dundee Slaytern 05-01-2004 12:42 AM

*shrug*

Personally, I didn't find Fallout 2 that confusing. I enjoyed its' complexity. As Harkoliar said though, refer to your Pipboy often.

Harkoliar 05-01-2004 05:37 AM

i love those strange encounter stuff.. there are several ;) . and a little tip: dont get the dog.

Firestormalpha 05-01-2004 09:49 AM

Why not?

Harkoliar 05-01-2004 10:18 AM

hmm.. i cant seem to recall properly whether it was fallout 1 or fallout 2 so spoil ahead just in case. getting the dog (not the robotic bot) has a pro and con.

Good thing, its a great dog.. and gives enemies bad luck.. the bad thing.. so do you. .

Oh, I remember that guy! He sucked, lol. Made my 95% Eye Hit Supersharp Shooter(Named Supersharp Shooter) miss A LOT.

Oh, I love the Fallout series.

uss 05-01-2004 12:04 PM

By the way, Firestormalpha, this guy in the Official Interplay Forums counted the time that you have to play Fallout 2.. It was 10 YEARS!!

So don't worry, you've got plenty of time to become a pornstar and do whatnot. :D

Firestormalpha 05-01-2004 12:39 PM

Ahh, so the dog has the jinxed trait attached to him. And he's not all too easy to kill either.

I always thought I was having a few too many critical misses for a luck of 7.

Add: I think I've narrowed the radiation damage down to being some strange side effect of the scorpions poison. Explains why they're called Radscorpions.

So what your saying uss is that the dream message thing that the shaman sent me is just to remind me that there is a central quest involved?

Yeah, pretty much so. It is possible that some development in the main quest later on triggers a humanly surpassable time limit, but I don't think so. At least, before you go back to your little village(later in the game), there's lots of time to explore.

If you find the game a bit dull, *SPOILER* I suggest that you go to New Reno to find work from one of the casinos, if you haven't done that yet. Also, put some points into Unarmed Fighting(you'll have enough points to spend on stuff later on) and go boxing in New Reno, and then Martial Arts fighting in San Fran.

Oh, the possibilities in Fallout and Torment.. I love Black Isle. :D

Firestormalpha 05-01-2004 11:34 PM

Woohoo!! I found a new recruitable NPC in Junktown (not the dog). He's a guy you can meet in the bar. Pretty good with a shotgun. I also learned that you don't give Ian a gun with burst mode before your first encounter with Killian. He used burst mode on the assassin and hit to of Killians guards in the process. Needless to say the guards went hostile on me. Oh yeah, is there any way to bust Doc Morbid or is extortion my only option in the Hub?

Harkoliar 05-02-2004 10:31 PM

i forgot about the doc but i do remember that you can control your hencmen not to use burst mode or something. just talk to them

The Hierophant 05-03-2004 06:14 AM

Incidentally, I just massacred everyone in Salvatore's Bar in New Reno, including the bossman Salvatore himself. Is this going to be really detrimental to my game or can I just roll with it?

Stratos 05-03-2004 07:04 AM

FSA, there's no time limit in Fallout 2 as far as I know.

The game is divided into two major quests: the first one is to find the G.E.C.K. and the second one becomes apparent when you've finished the first or when something like one year has passed.

The bad dog everyone is refering to is called the Pariah Dog and only exist in Fallout 2. It's a random encounter where you find a single dog surrounded by dead bodies. Avoid it, but all other dogs are safe (well, except the hostile ones) including Dogmeat in Fallout 1.

To The Hierophant:

I massarced the entire town( mobsters, pimps, pushers, addicts, fluffers, etc...) of New Reno before and completed the game just fine... Let's just say I redefined the meaning of a smoking town.

Dundee Slaytern 05-03-2004 12:55 PM

Oh... and the Pariah Dog can actually be VERY useful if you use a certain character build. ;)

Harkoliar 05-04-2004 12:47 AM

no biggie.. but there is a way to get big exp in new reno with a proper sequence with all the mob bosses getting the most exp out of them all :D . but there is no major effect killing one off.

Firestormalpha 05-04-2004 02:58 AM

Yep, playing Fallout 1 is much more manageable for me. Anyways after countless experimentation I've come to my final character. (Slightly edited and just a little stronger than would normally be possible, actually he's just slightly over powered, but not so that the game is not a challenge.)

Name: Griff
Age: 19____|Traits:
St:6_______|Finesse
Pe:7_______|Gifted
En:6
Ch:9_______|Tagged Skills:
In:8_______|Big Guns
Ag:10______|Doctor
Lk:7_______|Speech

Percentages have not been altered in anyway.
As you can see, he's created to talk softly and carry a big Boom stick. :D

Firestormalpha 05-05-2004 02:48 AM

Arrghh.... Just helped liberate Adyton, or the Boneyard if you prefer, and now a bunch of the Adytowners and Smitty go hostile on me for no reason. I never once hit them witha stray shot in the battle, what's the deal?

Quick Question! My car seems to have run out of juice. Anyway I can restore it again?

Firestormalpha 05-05-2004 02:14 PM

I think they are called mini-fusion batteries or something like that. The ammo/batteries with the radioactive symbol on them. Anyways you use them on the front end of the car.

pritchke 05-05-2004 02:21 PM

So I use my mini-fusion battery to give my car a boost? I stalled it at Vault 15 then went on foot again.

Firestormalpha 05-05-2004 02:26 PM

I'm pretty sure that should do it. Make sure you use in on the front of the car and not the back/trunk. I found out on UHS that the trunk and the front of the car are considered two seperate objects

pritchke 05-06-2004 04:12 PM

Hmm!! That didn't seem to work. for the car. But I have started my boxing career.

For the porn star the guy says I lack endurance. I have an endurance of 6 if I take a point of endurance instead of a perk will I be able to become a porn star? I have been trying to get as much booty as possible as the wife doesn't seem to mind :D .

Firestormalpha 05-06-2004 04:18 PM

Well, the UHS site said use Micro fusion cells to refuel the car.

Dundee Slaytern 05-06-2004 11:56 PM

If I recall correctly, you need 8 CHA, 8 END and 8 AGI to become a porn star.

~~~~
With the (Micro)Fusion Cells in your inventory, right-click on the car and select the backpack icon. Click on the cells to re-fuel your car.
