Oh man.... Comes out on PC, PS2, XBox.. If you have yet to see screens of this, or play the demo, grab the official monthly PS2 mag (has a demo on it). OMG, it's amazing.
http://www.eagames.com/official/nfs/...nd/us/home.jsp It'll be out Nov 20th! Grr.. I'm broke, so let me know how many tracks on on it!!!! :D Screens?: http://www.eagames.com/official/nfs/...creenshots.jsp |
I tried the demo this weekend, installed it for my brother,very good, long time since I found a racing game this much fun...
my Brother loves the Need for Speed games, I remember in 1997 when he was 5 we used to play NFS 2 split screen, despite his young age he was very good and almost always won... probably says more about me than him though... |
I never even new they were releasing another one, cool. Il try it. I used to play the first and second one "back then" in the days

I love the NFS series, even the bogus porsche challenge! Great for multiplayer with friends... [EDIT] WOOOOOWW!!!! Just finished playing the demo! Everyone should get this game if you liked the cars from 2fast2furious! You can completely kit your entire car, up to the breaks and wheels and such, manual shifting and sounds a la fastfurious! Man, I tried like 18 times before I even finished the first race, this game is gonna be HUGE!!! Play the demo and you'll see, you'll be hooked :D </font> [ 11-11-2003, 04:56 AM: Message edited by: Zuvio ] |

They hired a Hollywood Effects pro to make it look like you are moving faster than you are, and they pulled it off! Yeah, I have all the NFS games--even the first one, where crashes were AWESOME to watch! Realistic. |
<font color=gold>
I've noticed the Supra uses NOS at the end, that's why he always wins :( Never figured out how to use NOS myself. I admit: I used the maximum settings for graphics, why? Because my computer can't handle it! I used to crash into stuff at the drop of a hat, never having a chance to evade! So when my PC starting lagging a little I was finally able to actually finish the drag, how's that for SPEED! :D One of the best features this game has is the ability to completely kit your car, I really hope that it will be to some extent as broad and diverse as it was in Street Legal. </font> |
So has anyone tried the full game yet?? I saw it yesterday when I was in town but wasnt for buying it yet. *Waits for the price to go down!*
|
<font color=gold>
What do you mean you saw the game already? It's not released until 17th nov?! :eek: </font> |
Looks cool! Avsome! *giggles* :D
|
For the PC version, download the demo at www.needforspeed.com it's like 250MB, so have a fast connection

I've always loved the NFS series (even the Porsche Unleashed version), got every one. This one looks like a winner graphics wise, although I'm not really excited about the fast & furious angle (damn those movies were horrible!), the supercar stuff has been done to death so it might be a cool change of pace. I see an EVO in one of the screeshots, and a Supra was mentioned earlier. If they throw in the Skyline they'll have some few kick-butt cars to go with all the grocery getters ;) .

<font color="cyan">I might get around to getting this, considering im into the real life underground street racing scene, but I have a feeling it will be unrealistic........
And just a note, you cant "tap" Nitrous Oxide in real life, but heh.</font> |

I used a Nitrous Mastermind back when I ran juice (150 shot on a mildly modified lt1, low 500's)... gave me much better control of timing and mix than wot switch only. Now with a blower the NX kit is sitting on a shelf in the garage, maybe use it for cooling the intake charge someday... but that's after a forged bottom end rebuild, or maybe I'll put it on my Subaru . |

It's all there Thoran, everything you want and more! </font> |
<font color="cyan">Sounds cool Thoran, what Scooby you got (subaru)?
I heard the Impreza over there doesnt come with a turbo due to your emission laws (LMAO - poor fools!) Its always cool to Oxide management, but lets face it, the sheer WOOSH from that button is a great feeling!</font> |

The WRX came over a couple years ago... it's got the 2.0 turbo engine that's Subaru's bread and butter. The WRX STI is out here now, and I believe that's a new 2.5 turbo engine. Both are nice cars but I much prefer the neutral handling of the Mitsu's, the soobs tend to push like crazy (pretty much every one I've driven has anyway). Nitrous is a great, low cost way to make power... but you get sick of filling the bottle pretty quick (as well as the fact that it's illegal to run on the street... and I'm getting too old to get arrested for that kind of stuff). I'm in the mid-high 400 hp range with the blower, that'll keep me happy until rebuild time... then maybe I'll do the twin turbo setup I've always wanted. |
<font color="cyan">Sounds sweet Thoran, Legacy's rock!
But I didnt think the Turbo was introduced in the USA cos of emission laws, nevermind! lol. What you mean by awd? I take it you mean 4wd? Let us know.</font> |
<font color=gold>
4 wheel drive = all wheel drive :D </font> |
<font color="cyan">We dnt say that over here lol, so from now on we will stick to 4wd. Hehe.</font>
|
4 wheel drive != AWD... at least not in the US.
When a car nut refers to 4wd they are talking about traditional transfer case 4wd, power is distributed to the R or optionally to F/R (using a shift lever or solenoid in the transfer case). These vehicles typically were trucks, but early Soobs had this sort of setup (and even had low range... which was very cool). The transfer case is a stout gear driven device, and when a vehicle was equipped with locking front and rear differentials would lead to some crazy traction and great reliability, but locked 4wd operation was not suitable for on-road operation due to the fact that locking the diff. defeats the purpose of having a diff in the first place. Under normal conditions these vehicles were really one (if not in 4wd) or two (in 4wd) wheel drive, because you'd only get one wheel spinning in the front or rear. AWD is the term applied to modern systems which utilize a center differential with a viscous fluid coupling instead of a transfer case, power is always being sent to all four wheels. The center diff is a complex toy that in high end vehicles allow the operator to adjust power distribution (in most vehicles it's a fixed distribution 60/40 or something like that), sending more/less power to the front or rear depending on driver desire and/or computer control. Coupled with limited slip F/R differentials (my GT has mechanical limited slip in the back and clutch type up front... LOTS of traction), so I have 4 wheels churning under most low traction conditions. [ 11-20-2003, 11:57 AM: Message edited by: Thoran ] |

Update: I just got the game and it rocks! It's great fun so far. Bought a Mazda Miata and burning some rubber :D The story of you becoming better is also nice, you even get called a loser in the beginning, how's that for realism? :D For the ultimate graphics splendor, you do need a powerhouse of a PC, I can't even jack up all the visuals because of lack in performance, which is offcourse criticial in the game. I'm also getting a PS2 control pad for this game, I'm really missing out with just the keyboard... And the kit-options are phenomenal, so there are even 15+ bumpers-sets you can choose from :D </font> |

My buddie has the game, I'll probably check it out this weekend. |
I friend is a Big Need for Speed fan and bought this game the day it came out. Everytime I visit him he's playing it.
I like the game, it look very cool with the blur effect and the light tray. YOu can barely see what you are doing, but it's so fun. |

Agreed, the light trails and blur a la GTAIII are nice effects, but its better to actually see whats happening. Thoran, yeah a racing wheel would be much better, indeed, but a little too expensive for just one game. Im not a fan of F1 and so I dont see any other games for which to use the wheel. A joypad lets me play many games as well and I'm a big fan of the PS2 pad. I do have the logitech steering wheel that came with gran turismo 3 in a boxed set though, wonderful device!! I had to fasten it to a heavy table, lest it would completely tremble away! :D </font> |
<font color=gold>
Is anyone having trouble with the rate that the difficulty rises on HARD races? I just can't seem to win at some point: supra's and prototype subarus are racing against me in my little orange hot-rod mazda miata..... Not fair :( [EDIT] Just a sidenote here: the traffic is really taking a lot out of the fun right now: it is not amusing anymore to lose a race 10 times in a row because some truck comes out from the right just before the finish-line so that nr.2 wins the race. I tell you: I hate the traffic :( </font> [ 11-28-2003, 07:21 PM: Message edited by: Zuvio ] |

But this game is so cool, I love the Drag races, specially when you have to jump over the train, omg, adrenaline overflow...!!! thats one of the coolest scene I've seen in a game for a looong time:) I'm also on a Mazda Miata and boy does it rock... Unlike some of the music... were did they dig up some of those awful songs... I turned someof them down like that terrible Crystal Method song that was in the demo, ugh. Oh and Ziroc (if it hasn't been answered before or if you already got the game and figured out by yourself.. ) There seem to be 111 tracks in this game, some reversed but some happen in the vicinity of other track and you sometimes drive the same sections again and again, it's very cool. Best nonrpg game I've played for a loooong time... |
<font color=gold>
You think the music in NFSU sucks? You haven't played street legal racing redline yet, have you? UUURRRGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! </font> |
