Oh my... I can't wait... this is basicly the only game I'm waiting for this year...

Albromor 05-20-2003 11:03 PM

Thanks JR Jansen. I've been waiting for a site like this! Do you know if this is this the official site?

Fanks still looks like it's the best game being released this year... IMHO

the mighty stamar 05-21-2003 09:32 AM

Well Im looking forward to this one and Gothic 2 the most.

Well when it comes out it will be competing with the game lionheart, they both look sort of similar to me.
This one has the D and D license so I suspect it will be more popular. But if it sucks, it wont. Pool of radiance 2 was a turn based 3d game years ago, and it really was unpopular.

Albromor 05-21-2003 12:49 PM

Stamar, I believe the reason POR2 was so despised was because the game was filled with tons of bugs and the fractured storyline reflected the fact of how many hands this game went through before being published. Plus, it was repetitive. Or do you think it really was the turn based form of battle that plauged POR2? I'd like to hear your opinion.

Kakero 05-21-2003 12:50 PM

This adds to more suspense! Is there any way we can force the developer to release the game now? I mean all this waiting is killing me. :D

The engine for this game looks a LOT like POR2. I hope its better than POR2's though.

Anyone not like the way the graphics look? I don't like the way Trokia artists draw--games are still great, but I think it looks pixelated. This type of 'look' has been in all the games since Fallout.

I can overlook some graphics though, if the plot and overall game is fun!! We should get a preview copy sometime soon I would guess, so I'll have some info on it as well as new screens.

Haven't played PoR2, as just about everyone says it's bad. I don't mind the graphics in Fallout, and it seems to be better in ToEE

Looking forward to preview+screenshots

To me the graphics and graphic art in the movies and the screenshots looks incredible.

Especially the large winged demon writhing in the magic part.

I didnt like the graphic art in Steamworks arcanum either. Im not sure if they are related well have to see. That is a 2d game and this is a 3d game so odds are there are different people drawing the creatures.

I think part of why POR2 wasnt appreciated, is that the fans of the D and D licensed rpgs are not into something so slow moving. It was also incredibly difficult so basically you spent your time going nowhere.

Im sure this game is going to try and be different from that one.
What a lot of people dont know is that the troika people have been making exclusively pen and paper rpgs since they started.

The game Fallout was orignally written to be a license of STeve Jacksons GURPS system, but it fell through so the changed the skill names and called it special.
Arcanum uses the same system, and D and D 3.5 is GREATLY influenced towards GURPS as opposed to the old system.
So this is a great deal like their previous games in 3d graphics I would bet. This was the graphics engine they were planning to make steamworks 2 with.

I'm sure it'll be ok. But yeah, I hated Arcanum. the graphics were SO grainy and lossy, that it was VERY hard to even see many areas..

Can't wait to play this though. I'd LOVE to romp through Greyhawk!!

Harkoliar 05-22-2003 11:21 AM

hey the website looks great. i liked the drawings of the monsters they look cool. the only thing i didnt like is the drawing portraits.. the mintatour barbarian actally looks like the cover of the book i saw in the bookstore.

and what is POR and POR2??

edit:

i read the FAQ and i know that you can only have lower levels characters throuout the game. now i saw all the monsters in the screen shots.. how in the world can you defeat them?

I'm with you, Z, I am not that impressed with the artwork, but if the gameplay is fun then by all means I'm playing it. I love the World of Greyhawk. Since Troika did Arcanum too there is little wonder that the artwork looks the same.

The low levels are for game balance. I remember people wanting the experience cap remover for Baldir's Gate 1 and commenced to romp right through it, smashing everything in sight. Where is the fun in that? There was a reason Bioware had the experience cap: Balanced Game Play. This is Troika's intent.

About the lower level characters. In Fallout 1 and to a lesser extent in Fallout 2 and Arcanum, you sometimes could hire, convince the locals to fight with you. Maybe this has been implemented in ToEE. If you are facing an overwhelming force or a high level opponent, you may be able to recruit the local law or somesuch. I'm not saying that it will happen, i'm saying it can happen. Don't complain about the low level characters just yet. RPG's have, mostly, a way around this.

ahh, i didnt read about that part regarding locals as allies. because if that is the case i dont mind the low level characters. the only problem i have is having level 3 or 4 characters in the party and fighting a big bad beholder which can petrify stun and imprison your character (based on bg2 experience ).

ps: no one answered my question regarding POR and POR2.. what is that game?

the mighty stamar 05-23-2003 06:55 PM

Pool of radiance was one of the ssi gold box games.

Pool of radiance 2 was an isometric 3d turn based game with bad reviews from about a year and a half ago.

the mighty stamar 05-23-2003 11:46 PM

Ps the game has a level cap of 10.

Those 'beholders' are not beholders, they are eyes of the deep. Check out the monsters on the site. All of them are your standard monsters from the pen and paper module.

Some of them look really cool to me.

Luvian 05-24-2003 01:34 AM

Does anyone know what are the requirement for this game?

Dreamer128 05-24-2003 09:29 AM

Someone posted these on the Greyhawk boards;

Part1:

Part2:

the mighty stamar 05-26-2003 09:03 PM

We're estimating a ~700MHz P3 /w GeForce2 should be able to run the game okay with most of the effects turned down. And it should run the game with some chunk if the effects are turned up.

thats from the eye on troika site.
