I've been playing for a while now up to level 6 but having a hard time in any new section, any quest areas I go to I don't last long! Is this normal??Any place I should try first? Thanks
|
What is your party?
|
knight, thief.clericand a sorceror.I'm just getting to the barrows having a time there..How do you use your skills?? Like thief skill ..stealing???Thanks
|
go level up somewhere first like Erathia. Barrows got some tough undead. or, walk slowly, immediately go turn based and pump those monsters full of arrows.
stealing? go to weapon/armour shop, press shift + right click ( try ctrl + right click if it doesn't work )on the item you wanna steal. Warning : stolen item cannot be resold. |
On Emerald Isle you should have killed the dragon, then you would have all the money and armour you need.... save and loot, if corpse remains save and loot, if it doesn't, go back to first save repeatedly until it does.
However, even without this superstart, which makes the game fairly easy, you might follow a simple stategy of travelling aroung ALL the towns picking up horseshoes/ore/chests/wells/altars/challenges on the run, fighting only the wimps, and buying a few superior bows in Avlee. All your armour improvement needs should be taken care of by the chests and ore which you pick up and take to Erathia. You can also pick up and complete a few quests which are simple, safe and rewarding while you are on this "run-around". I would finance this trip from the goblins in and around Harmondale, from The White Cliff Caves where you get a pack of cards and from Arcomage in all the towns to which you travel. At the end of this trip and after becoming expert in Leather and Body Magic and Air Magic (Wizards Eye) and Bow where possible, you will then be strong enough for the Barrows which supply further loads of loot. There are a group of thieves in the south eat of Erathia who are easy to take if you keep retreating in front of them and using your bows. And just off the eastern most path in the northern half of the map there is a cave where you can find a ring to complete a quest...(The merchant from the inn in Harmondale) Buy "Fly" and "Invisibility" scrolls on your travels and you can make loads of money/ore in Deyja and on the plateau about Tatalia. In Deyja there is a "very nearly infinite experience" bug. Let me know if you have not already learned about this and would like to try it. There is also lots of ore in The Bracada Desert and at least one Fly scroll in a chest roughly southwest of the stable. With the ore you pick up you can, with saves and patience, supply many of your equipment needs. I hope this is useful for you John. If it is or you want further clarification of anything here, just say so. Dandad |
Dandad,Thanks for the post,But I didn't kill the dragon! He was way to tough for me at the time is there any way to get back? I've got my knight in chain so I guess mastering leather is out for now,I'm still having a hard time trying to figure out how to use my skills as this game didn't have a manual! Unless it's hidden on the disk somewheres? I'll try the shift thingy next This game seems larger than I thought, well worth the price!Grafics are a little dated but thats not why I play these games,I love the rpg games , building up stats and such, well back to the game and thanks again for the post I'll try some of your tips...John

nope, there's no way back into emerald island now.
your knight can grandmaster plate armour skill, thus it will be a waste to give him chain armour skill. only give 1 character 1 type of armour skill only. I believe there's a little booklet in your cd casing that explain which skill you can grandmaster and so on. |
John, I have substantial manual, (63 pages) Ask anything and I will try to answer.
Killing the Dragon on Emerald Isle is something you have to plan for and would usually only be done second time around. Certainly not until you are fully aware of all the spells, NPCs etc. Ctrl-click on the item etc you want to steal. The chance of success is based on character's skill level. Doubled at expert level. Tripled at Master. Quad at Grand Master. I think thieves can become Grand Master at Disarm Trap. A search will find plenty of sites about the game. Killing the Dragon is pure ya-ya. If you want to save and reload 1000 times, go for it, but I have better things to do. Also, the Barrow Downs is not a nice place for inexperienced parties. You're better off going to Erathia and beating up the raiders outside town.

Thanx Holywarrior,I'm fighten the raiders now!!.....As George Bush is to foreign policy!!!

is an easy way to kill the dragon on Emerald Isle (I´ve forgotten his name ;) ). First lead some dragonflies to Mr. Malwick, the man with a propsition, and let them kill him. Then loot his body for a nice wand. Then head up to the magic shop and save outside. Enter and check for recharge item scrolls. If there are no such scrolls in stock leave, reload and enter again. You will need at least 1 preferrably 2 scrolls. To acquire 2 scrolls you might need to wait until the owner restocks. To do that level up your characters, then save in front of the magic shop again. OK now your are ready to enter the dragon´s cave. When you do, run around the entire cave, hugging the right wall until you are back at the entrance. Then you should be able to sidestep to your right, fire the wand and then take cover before he can breathe his fire at you. When there´s only one charge left in the wand use a recharge item scroll. After the dragon is dead, multiloot him! |
Willow, I totally agree. Killing the Dragon is fairly easy and Mr. Malwicks Fireball Wand is an essential element for success.
But taking an armorer along with you is just as important. The Dragon seldom if ever kills in one blow. First he does for your armour and then you. But if you take an armorer, I think that's what they are called, to immediately repair your armour then you can take the Dragon head on with only a few "timed" side steps. I have never had to reload in the cave more than once or twice. You do have to be cautious using the dragonflies though. I used them to get the musical instrument as well, and ended up almost alone on the island. Had to go back to an ealier save so I could pick up a couple of "live" NPCs. I think the other one I used was to strenthen my "Fate" Spell. Happy memories...sigh. Still there are more to come if ever I find my way out of the Temple of the Serpent. Going up!? Library please!? Here's another way how to kill thay dragon without using the wand.
touch the pedestal of god first, press enter to go turn based and saved you game before going into the cave. enter the cave and shoot the dragon with 2 characters only. save your game and reload your game. you will notice your 2 characters that have shoot the arrow can now shoot again. repeat and repeat. |
As I said before, I (and 99% of MM7 players) have better things to do than save and reload 1000 times.

WOW! I didn't know you had so much resources! Wait... You didn't ask me... Just because you don't like to loot the dragon does not mean other players don't. Don't talk for them. |
HolyWarrior, While I recognise that "1000 times" is hyperbole, or should be, it is stll a gross exageration when it has already been indicated that the Dragon can be killed with only two or three reloads, a dozen at most if you are very unlucky. Even Kakero's approach should not require much more than a hundred re-loads since as I far as I remember the Dragon only has about 1000 hp.
I suspect your "99%" is equally hyperbolic; though I must acknowledge there are a lot of "purists" who would never contemplate such tactics. I am confident that many MM7 players who had never been aware of the possibilities of killing the Dragon would love to try once they knew how. It does radically change the game. But isn't this a good thing. Replay value? Dandad |
Buy everyone a Bow early on.
I found that doing the Ranger promotion Quest (the first one) gives you some well-needed XP. There´s a guy in Pierpoint that gives you the Quest and all you have to do is to find the Fairy King (I think that was his name) in Avlee. Just follow the mountains to your right when you enter Avlee until you come to a cave. The cave is to the northeast of the town. There are some minor monsters inside though. If you pick up some ore, go to Steadwick and find a row of houses. In three of the houses there are people that can make magic weapons/armor/items out of them. |

I usually kill Cormorack with bows, and perhaps the wand. Near the entrance of the cave, there's a little opening where you can hide, wait for everyone to turn green, and then slide out sideways to strafe him. He'll breathe, but it will go where you were, and you can then strafe back. Takes a while, but you can take him out.
Just be careful not to strafe down to the step below the entrance. Then you can't strafe back, and you're going to be toast. I find this to take much less time than running in circles and timing breathing patterns. |
