Okay, I am currently playing Torment and loving it, but I have realised that I have made a mistake when distributing out my weapon proficiency points. I don't have a save game to go back to in order to change my descions, either.

Now I'm not one for editors and hacks, but I was wondering if there is a reliable and stable program out there so I can change my proficiency points to the way I want them. I really love the game, but I don't want to restart it again just to fix this mistake.

Can anyone help me? I would be very grateful.

Be nice if there was a PlaneKeeper out there, but there isnt. Neb posted a link to one an age back, if the search was up id dig it out for you. Best bet is to use Google and hunt for a bit.

Grimslade 08-18-2002 09:01 AM

Planekeeper? I'll try searching for that. Thanx andrewas.

Unfortunatly there is no such thing as planekeeper, which is a pity because the Keeper series covers all the others. I was kindahoping neb would turn up and re-post that link.

Here though is one that teambg came up with:

Funny, didnt think they did save games. Oh well. Enjoy.

Sorry mate, but when I click the links it tells me "file no longer exists."

This web page has a number of PS:T editors that you can try out.

Thanks for the cool link AndyG. BTW, does the game comes with 4 or 5 CD? I have searched all my shelves and boxes for the this game but I could only find 4 CD. and I think my wife have "accidently" threw away all the old manuals (takes up too much space... go figure)

Anyway, from the INI file, there should be a CD5... I hope I didn't loose the last CD.

Bokken 08-29-2002 01:10 AM

Paladin2000 the game actually came with 4 cd's. Maybe the 5th cd thing you found was for an expansion that was never made. Whatever the case, Planescape Torment only has 4 cd's to the game.

Paladin2000 08-29-2002 01:49 AM

Thanks Bokken, the reference to the CD5 in the INI file really scared the sh*t out of me.

BTW, I copied all the CD's into the folder and edited the INI file, now all the gamedate and FMV scenematics are played from the harddisk. The game loading time has been decreased dramatically and also the FMV plays at a much smoother rate (no pause to wait for the CD access). If any of you have extra HDD space to spare, I would recommend to do it. Anyway, the game will still try to detect CD2 in the CD-ROM before executing the program.

Bokken 08-29-2002 01:56 AM

Paladin if you could email me some info as to how you done this I'd really appreciate it. I'll find a patch I found once that apparently disables the feature asking for CD2 every time you start the game and pass a copy over to you. I haven't tested it personally though so I'm not sure if it works.

Actually I think I figured it out. You changed the Torment.ini
CD1:D:\CD1\ to lets say C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Torment\Full game (where full game is a created directory with all the extra files in them.

Change all of them in the ini to point to that folder(s) and it's done...correct?

It's okay Bokken. I found a site (due to IW policy, I am not allowed to post the link). They have tons of NO-CD crack. However, if you want the game to load from HDD just edit the Torment.INI (I think). change all enties which refers someting like F:\CD1\ (assuming your CD-ROM is drive F) to C:\Torment\CD1 (example). Do the same to all the other entries and copy all the CD content to the folder that you specified. The game will now load all data from HDD but it will still requires CD2 to be in the CD-ROM unless you happened to have the NO-CD crack. ;)

Okay, here is the detail description from one of those site that I mentioned:

.INI Change Instructions:
Modify the <GameDir>\TORMENT.INI file:

Change the "CD1:=" path to: "<GameDir>\CD1"
Change the "CD2:=" path to: "<GameDir>\CD2"
Change the "CD3:=" path to: "<GameDir>\CD3"
Change the "CD4:=" path to: "<GameDir>\CD4"

TORMENT.INI Example File:
------------------------------------------------------
[Alias]
HD0:=c:\torment
CD1:=c:\torment\CD1\ <-- there isn't a \cd1\ on the 1st CD
CD2:=c:\torment\CD2\
CD3:=c:\torment\CD3\
CD4:=c:\torment\CD4\
...
------------------------------------------------------

NO more CD swapping frenzy!

Thanx AndyG! It worked perfectly!

Bokken 08-29-2002 11:30 AM

Paladin2000 are you sure it will still ask for CD2 without the No CD Crack? I copied the cd's into separate folders into C:\Torment and changed it all in the .ini file but instead of changing the first line to HD0:=c:\torment (it didn't seem right), I instead left it at HD0:=c:\Program Files\Black Isle\Torment
It all works fine and doesn't ask for any cd's. I just made a shortcut of the Torment.exe from the root directory where I instaled the game and put the cd's away for good.

Paladin2000 08-29-2002 10:46 PM

Bokken, The example that I put on my previous post was just an example, you don't have to follow it exactly, but I guess you knew that already. ;)

According to one of the tips and hints texts from the site posted by AndyG, the program will still ask to CD2 and it did. After editing and coping all the files on my HDD, the program still ask for CD2. but after applying the NO-CD crack, I don't need to insert CD2 anymore. Just to test my theory, I replaced my old [torment.exe] back and true enough, the program did ask for CD2.

Maybe you version of Torment has already been patched. My version (I bought it about 2 years ago) is one of the earliest version and it has the CD2 protection, even after applying the 1.1 patch.

Since most of the site are written by old time (no pun intended) game players, most of them are using the older version, which have the CD2 protection.
