A quick question. While I was questing near Sadrith Mora (looking for the Boots of Levitate, which I still haven't found - any suggestions?) I accidently ran into Chrystamere. The two handed sword which is worth about 95000. Problem is, it's way too heavy to carry around until I can make time to visit the Mudcrab (I'm probably going to lose a ton of money on this). Do items vanish when you put them in crates, or can I just store it at Telvanni HQ and come back for it later?

Stratos 12-25-2005 08:57 AM

Items doesn't disappear if you put them in containers, but make sure not to put them in someone else's container; it will be regarded as stealing if you try to remove them again.

If you by "Boots of Levitate" mean the Boots of the Apostle then they are not anywhere near Sadrith Mora. ;)

Nightowl2 12-25-2005 09:47 AM

Yeah, any crate or barrel will do for storing stuff, but as Stratos said, don't put them in someone else's container. I made that mistake once, and people turned hostile when I took my item out of it. Ouch.

I generally used the crates outside the guilds in Balmora. No one ever bothered me when I took stuff out of those. It was also good for recalling just where everything was!

Thanks guys. Heh.. I can't believe I'm wrong again about those damn boots. They were my favorite piece of equipment with my last char, and although my current characters can levitate by himself, that spell does cost alot of mana.

Stratos 12-25-2005 01:33 PM

Go to a spellmaker and make a levitation spell of just a few points and, say, a 30 second duration. Much cheaper than the spell you buy.

Aelia Jusa 12-25-2005 05:53 PM

You can actually just stick stuff on the ground anywhere and it won't disappear. Not really very role-playingly realistic, but sometimes practical ;) . Then no matter where you put it, no one will get upset if you try to pick it up again.

You know there is a quest to get those boots (from the imperial cult) where you're told exactly where to go get them so you don't have to guess....

Sir Degrader 12-25-2005 07:12 PM

Just get a damn house, you bum. :D

Kakero 12-25-2005 07:58 PM

If you want to store stuff in a chest, empty the thing inside first before putting your stuff in. Sometimes, the stuff inside the chest will disappear if the original item is still there after you opened the chest,

Ah.. well, I never actually joined the Cult, but it's comforting to know that some directions are available. Anyway, thanks for all the good advice guys. I think I'll go find myself a nice spot to store all the junk I've been carrying around since the beginning of the game. (you wouldn't believe the amount of useless herbs, flowers and random items I am carrying) Or maybe I'll finally follow Sir D's advice to find a cottage, put the inhabitants to the sword and live happily ever after :D

No need to put anyone to the sword, Dreamer. There is a large mansion in Balmora that has several very large areas which are not under surveillance after a certain point in one of the guild progressions (i.e, someone ELSE kills the owner). There are other cozy homes with no inhabitants present. (Typically you have to pick a lock to get in.)

The one I use is the upstairs storage room at the Eight Plates in Balmora: It is very convenient, cozy, and safe (after you shut the door behind you); but plenty of storage, with lots of crates, sacks, chests, baskets, barrels, and even a bit of floor space (as if you needed it). I collect potion ingredients. I think I have used the storage equivalent of over a dozen of EVERY ingredient in the game. In addition, I have a full set of apothecary equipment, some weapons and armor, and a few knick-knacks; and there are still plenty of empty containers left in this perfectly sized and situated lab/storage.

I haven't experienced it, yet; but am told that stuff you put in containers can be lost after some time (the container resets), and the best thing to do is have things out on the floor. I like the orderliness of containers; so put something in or take it out of each container every now and then, to start the container timers over. Like I said, I have had no problems losing stuff.

Hope this helps.

The best thing to do to Store things you
wish to keep is:
1)Down load a house mod and use one of the
containers in it.
2)Join one of the guilds and placeb your
stuff in the guild Box that has the weapons,
potions and spells that are free for your
character to take.
I stored a number of Items in the Fighters Guild
weapons Box when I first started playing.
Also after Caius (the Guy you give the package
to at the begining of the game) gets to the
point where he is called back to the mainland.
You are given his house in Balmora. At that
point you can pile everything you own in there.
You can just go back and pick it up anytime
you want, with no worry about it Disapering
when their is a chapter change which seem to
Happen everytime you complete a mission
on the main Quest.

IIRC, CrimsoNBlade, you can't actually store any equipment in those guild chests, at least you couldn't in my game. Perhaps that's a mod you're using or someone else can confirm either way that its possible or not? I also use Cauis' place at that point in the game, which though messy and small, does the job.

You could also get yourself a nice big pack guar to lug your gear around. (read - pack mule) I think there's a fellow who sells them on a farm house just north of Pelgiad. I think its a non-mod addition, though I'm not quite sure hehe, it might only come with the Vvardenfell Druglord mod I'm using. :D Either way, it shouldn't be hard to get one added to a game.

But my pack guar is awesome, I can tell him to follow me if I need to pick up supplies, or he can be told to stay at a certain spot. Either way, his carrying capacity is impressive - over 1000 pounds. I store my daedric items and other treasures in particular on him and simply return to him if I need anything.

The only gripes I have about him is his tendency to get a bit stuck sometimes on thin bridges when travelling and he doesn't like mage guild guides or travelling by recall very much to the point that they won't work with him. But otherwise, he makes a fun addition to the game companion wise and is very handy to have around.

Why don't you just download one or two plugins that give you a house of your own ? No need to make life harder than it is.

Oh...and btw....i wouldn't sell Chrysamere to the mudcrab if i were you. First of all...it's probably one of the best swords in the game, and secondly...you'll need it later in the game, since it's part of a quest when you work for the Imperial Legion.

Zaleukos 01-25-2006 09:52 AM

I like to use the council club in Balmora for storage. Its close to instant-travel facilities and has quite a few rooms and containers.

Ilander 01-25-2006 04:50 PM

I tend to use the three story home (ex-home, thank you fighter's guild) of Sharn "I'm a female Orc" Gramzomething or other. It has shelves, containers, a bed, etc.

Even still, though, I tend to leave my favorite suits of armor lying on the ground somewhat haphazardly.

The Merciful 02-02-2006 03:12 AM

You do know some of the crates respawn their content, and in the proses delete whatever you may have but in there? So DO NOT store anything in a crate if you don't know which type of container it is.

Just leving items on the ground is safe and secure.

If you look at containers in the Construction Set, the only way to set one to respawn is to also set it as organic. And if a container is set as organic, you can't put any items into it.

So if you can put items into a container, then it's not a respawning container.

(For example, the equipment chests in some of the guilds respawn their contents periodically, but you can't put any items into them: they're set as both organic and respawning.)

Grumpy made a very nice packguar plugin you can download here. Has Grumpy's advanced follow/warp routines and so forth.
